10 Things I Wish I Knew Before Adopting A Cat

So what do you all think? Anything you wish you had known? I'm sure there are plenty!

I raised my previous cat the jackson galaxy way when I got him 12 years ago. When I got him I watched through every single episode of My Cat From Hell, they were so helpful. He was the best, bravest, most intelligent and well behaved cat I've ever seen or had. He of course still got up to mischief, but he was good as gold at the vets, really well behaved when clipping nails, loved to do tricks, loved his pet carrier... Your videos on PICA really helped in me managing that behaviour as well in a way that he was comfortable with, without it being destructive. I'm so proud of him and I miss the shit out of him 💔

Omg cat proof the block off the under is something i wish i would of known. I thiughtt just putting up signs and posters showing where my jasper would be if there was a fire. Because that happened and i was a new cat owner .but thank goiodness he is still with me . Thank you for this video

Our veterinarian urged us, with our female Akita Ino, to introduce our newly adopted kitten, by securing the kitten in the laundry room with litter box, elevated food and water dish (eventually the food and water would be out of the dogs reach). We did this for a week with the door closed for the kitten. I visited and played the kitten several times a day. After a week, we several child gates in the door frame so neither cat nor dog could climb i or out. Once they had visual with their scent, it went fast. It only took 3 more days of separation. They were great buddies and able to play without harm.
After the separation was over, we would secure the cat if we going out for awhile. Then reunite them when we returned. We did this precaution for about a month. Then they were free to be together in the house.

Im 65.... my mum was a stray cat collector.... the most we had at one time in our london flat was 7.... litter boxes on balconies.... cat drool on sheets.... prick cushioned limbs....
Im in the Drakensberg South Africa offgrid with 4 caravan rooms on 50acres with flatland bush mountains and river.... im up to 30 something cats with 2 dogs and a bantam rooster that deticks and defleas when the relax..... this morning there were 23.... on me and my bed..... great from warm winter nest sleeping..... they take turns for one on one connection xxxx they are my Earth Anchors
I have masses of catnip growing.... occasionally the serval hop over the fence and indulge.... and maybe the leopard once

My cat got diabetes at 11 and he only ate dry food. He’d lick the gravy off his wet food but not eat the meat.

FINALLY!!! 6 cats into my life I decided to do a slooooow intro of our new one-year-old to our resident 8-year-old. Our 8yo is crotchety, occasionally hits us as we walk by for no reason, and positively MAULED her predecessor for fun. She came to us nearly feral, and I planned for the worst… but did it slooooow and GOT THE BEST outcome ever!!! I gave the newbie our bedroom as a home base, slept in the guest room with our old gal for a couple of months, opened plug-in pheromone bottles and put drops everywhere. The new one is a RASCAL, and eggs on our Rottweiler (who is a baby) but now our old girl has NO problem with her and I catch them hanging out in the same room regularly. Not kissing, but never fighting!!! I hate to say this out loud, but I’m proud of myself because I have ZERO patience for just about anything!!! SOOOOOOOOOOO WORTH IT!!!!! I’m so happy with our family. ❤❤❤❤❤

I never knew, before watching, "My Cat From Hell", that declawing a cat is actually a type of amputation. I got a kitten recently and I'm going to have to get him used to letting me file his nails or trim his nails. I've tried a few times and he's not a huge fan LOL but he did quickly learn to use the cat scratching board I screwed to the wall instead of scratching up my ottoman 👍🏼

There's also what's called a Door Buddy. It's an adjustable strap that keeps your door open just a little bit to allow your cat in but keep your dog out of whatever room the litter box is in
