Damn, imagine if Bobby hadn't got hurt at Pocono he'd probably have won a couple more races cause damn the Miller Buick was fast at a lot of tracks with Mike in it, furthermore I thought that particular chassis looked familiar & Bob said it, that was the chassis Bobby won Daytona with at the start of the year.

Kyle Petty (Ford #21 in 13th) had a bit of everything during the year. Despite a very good 1987 season, Richard Petty (GM #43) had as many as 9 early DNFs.



Bobby Allison (GM #12) won the Daytona 500 and was doing great until he got injured during the Pennsylvania 500, Neil Bonnet (GM #75 in 17th) won the Richmond 400 and Carolina 500 early on but then started struggling with pace, reliability and even crashes while the surprise winner of the Rebel 500 was Lake Speed (GM #83 in 16th). Alan Kulwicki (Ford #7 in 14th) won his 1st Cup race in the Phoenix 500km.



Drivers listed are the season's current top8, last season's top8 plus the rookie of the year before and whatever race winner that doesn't fit any of those 2 descriptions. I'm using the unsponsored names for races and in Atlanta’s case the earlier race is the Atlanta 500 while the later one is the Dixie 500.

Mike Alexander was driving #12 in place of Bobby Allison, who had suffered his career ending crash at Pocono. Alexander was supposed to drive for the Stavola Brothers full time the following season, but he suffered a brain injury in the Snowball Derby. After racing at Daytona, Alexander had to resign from the team because he was still hampered by his injury.
