🚀 How I got here…
🎮 12 yrs old: Started uploading Minecraft ⛏️ videos at https://www.youtube.com/@UCNjb-h3sUHsmkOdtb5gI3mw
Can’t really fix solo queueing when all my friends are silvers
🕹️ 16 yrs old: Switched to uploading Fortnite 🔫 videos on this channel. You can go to my uploads, sort oldest to newest, to see all of my old Fortnite videos.
🎓 17 yrs old: Accepted into Northwestern University 🏛️ during senior year of high school, then COVID hits.
The #1 mistake low rank players make is going or full boost either on kickoff or when defending. Probably like 1/8th of the goals given up that i see are because someone left the goal wide open. You don't need 100% boost to defend the net. Many times 20 is just fine.
⚽ 18 yrs old: Switched from Fortnite to Rocket League 🚗 videos. Started attending Northwestern University 📚. Began coaching players 1-on-1 at https://www.patreon.com/SpookLuke
🔥 19 yrs old: Rocket League went free to play 🎉 and my channel blew up. To keep up with the demand, started the Grand Champ Roadmap – a Rocket League course business.

💼 20 yrs old: Built the course while in college 🎓 and started a cohort model with coaching. Eventually, dropped out of school to pursue YouTube & the company full-time.
🎯 21 yrs old: Switched to selling coaching & community only. Rebranded as Grand Champ Bootcamp 🏋️♂️ (Get it? Bootcamp, not roadmap, because it’s live coaching).
Don’t commit eight times lol that’s totally me
🏆 22 yrs old: Currently peaked GC3 at 1738 MMR 📊 (higher than 99.8% in ranked 2v2). I play Rocket League 60 mins or less a day, on average.
🎥 Today:
I’m in silver and solo queue because I have no one who plays the game and my main problem is I can’t jump off the wall to hit the ball away from my goal and I can’t aerial too the ball and I did make a mistake by learning aerial first before everything
Making YouTube videos, coaching, and running my paid community is how I make my living 💼.

At this point, it feels like speed flips or something equivalent is absolutely necessary at plat and up, I'm barely plat 1 and half my opponents are speed flipping to every kick off and flying down field with em lol

🎯 16:24 - 19. Obsessing about the wrong mechanics
🎲 16:57 - 20. Thinking kickoffs are "luck"
💡 17:32 - 21. Not using kickoff strats

🎉 18:36 - 23. Forgetting to have fun

💥 19:25 - 25. Not demoing enough
the note on deadzone isnt completely wrong from a competitive point of view, however you're misunderstanding how deadzone works in rocket league, its not just a case of having it as low as possible without drift like in most games, because of the way the deadzone math is applied in rocket league before the dodge zones are applied it means having a higher deadzone makes it easier to hit perfect directional flips which is important for things like stalls and noflips, these things arent super important in comp which is why most pros run a super low deadzone however some people do just want to have fun with stalls and noflips
so if your only goal is to rank up yeah lower your deadzone, but if you wanna have fun with funnies like no flips and stalls you can 100% achieve good car control with a higher deadzone its not like its gimping you to gc

@Gykxyi would just like to point out that even with good catches, quick dribble setups, i am always instantly challenged, usually to the point that my tm8s also just take the ball from me. im not saying im better then my opponents, but there is literally never any space for me, be it in ranked or casuals, there is just no space. i am d2, peak d3 div 4 and peak d1 in 1s so i know how to use space and quickly setup up dribbles and ground dribbles, but its just instantly challenge every single time.
