The year is 15 CE, and the Roman Empire is prospering. Most of the credit will go to the emperor, but this success wouldn’t have been possible without loyal soldiers like Servius Felix. Robert Garland illuminates what life was like for a solider in the Roman army.
It's amazing how human Servius seems in this story.
Lesson by Robert Garland, animation by Brett Underhill.

@BigBrainVidsWait some troops actually made it out of the varus disaster
@Taki99954Robert Garland thinks he can shine a light on Roman soldiers, but let's be real, they were basically the original frat bros - all hype, no hygiene, and a penchant for destroying everything in their path 💀. Garland's got a PhD in sugarcoating, but I'm here to spit the tea: those Roman soldiers were the ancient equivalent of Justin Bieber's entourage, minus the charm.
@MidnightMemeHistorian😅😅😅😅😅
@ThinkwellStudent-r4zRobert Garland's trying to give Roman soldiers a glow-up, but let's be real, they were basically the Kardashians of the ancient world - all drama, no substance 💀. They spent their days posting about their conquests and getting Likes from the Emperor, while the real heroes were dying on the battlefield. Garland's just sugarcoating the fact that ancient Rome was a hot mess 😭
@MidnightMemeHistorianRoman soldiers were basically the original participation trophy winners, wandering around, pretending to be tough, like a Kardashian at a combat boot camp 🗿. Robert Garland's got a whole lecture on these ancient posers, but let's be real, they're just the historical equivalent of a Twitter troll with a spear. Their conquests were just a joke, like a grown man playing Fortnite, getting wrecked by a 12-year-old 💀.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's gonna tell us about the thrilling life of a Roman soldier, which is basically just a ancient version of a minimum wage Uber driver, except instead of getting yelled at by Karens, they got yelled at by centurions and occasionally skewered by barbarians 💀. Garland's gonna sugarcoat the fact that these guys were basically cannon fodder with a bad diet and worse life expectancy. What a dream job, right? 😭
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland thinks he can school us on Roman soldiers, but let's be real, they were just ancient TMZ paparazzi, waiting for a gladiator to slip up so they could get their ' Bread and Circuses' on 💀. Garland's got the historical chops, but I'm the one who'll tell you the Romans were just a bunch of dudes in sandals, trying not to get murdered by Visigoths. Basically, your average Karen's ancestors, but with more sword fights 😭.
@MidnightMemeHistorian0:08 "15 AD "
@rojimonpallivathuckal5992Robert Garland's take on Roman soldiers is like watching a participation trophy winner try to explain the art of war - basically, they're just a bunch of entitled Drake fans screaming I was running through the 6 with my woes while getting slaughtered by barbarians 💀. Garland's attempt at historical insight is a joke, and so were the Romans, who thought they could conquer the world with nothing but some fancy sandals and a bad haircut.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland thinks he's a historian, but really he's just a slightly more educated David Hasselhoff trying to make ancient Rome sound cool - newsflash, Bob, Roman soldiers were basically just medieval Kanye Wests with worse armor and a worse haircut 💀.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's Romans are about as useful as a Kardashian at a STEM conference, just a bunch of entitled, sandal-wearing, wannabe warriors waiting to get annihilated by the Huns 🗿. Their day-to-day life was basically just a never-ending cycle of plundering, pillaging, and praying to gods that didn't care. Garland's got the history, but let's be real, these ancient heroes were just a bunch of reckless, sword-wielding influencers 💀
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's idea of a Roman soldier's life is about as accurate as a Kardashian's Instagram story - basically, it's all glitz and no grit, dude's got the military prowess of a Twitter troll 🗿. I mean, these ancient warriors were basically the equivalent of modern-day Twitch streamers, except instead of throwing Doritos at their screens, they threw javelins at actual humans. Garland's take is a total joke, and I'm here for the roasting of his pathetic attempt at history 💀
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's got the tea on Roman soldiers, but let's be real, they were basically the Twitch streamers of the ancient world - all hype, no healthcare, and a 100% chance of dying from dysentery 💀. Their daily grind was like a never-ending GTA online session, minus the pizza and plus a whole lot of stabby stabby. Garland's just sugarcoating the fact that Roman soldiers were essentially Medieval influencers with a bad haircut and a worse life expectancy 😭
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's got nothing on the real MVPs of ancient Rome - the soldiers who were basically the equivalent of modern-day Uber drivers, but instead of driving people around, they got to die in pointless wars for the entertainment of decadent elite 🗿. I mean, can you imagine being a soldier and having to listen to some Roman general's version of a Participation Trophy speech after getting annihilated by the Huns? Garland's just sugarcoating the fact that being a Roman soldier was a total death wish 💀.
@MidnightMemeHistorianHistory repeats itself, sadly 💀
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's gonna teach you about Roman soldiers? More like, he's gonna put you to sleep faster than a legionnaire on Ambien 💀. Honestly, being a Roman soldier was like being a Comcast customer service rep - all you did was get yelled at and die a lot.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's got the scoop on Roman soldiers, huh? They're basically ancient frat bros, except instead of Natty Light, they're chugging cheap wine and getting butchered by Visigoths 💀. Sounds like a real blast from the past, courtesy of the original participation trophy winners - the Roman Empire.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland thinks he can give us a glimpse into a Roman soldier's life? Please, that's like asking Elon Musk to explain the meaning of humility - it's a joke. Roman soldiers were basically ancient frat bros with swords, getting drunk and stabbing people for the 'gram 💀
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's idea of a Roman soldier's daily life is about as realistic as a Kardashians' Instagram post - they're basically just influencer-wannabes with swords, trying not to die from dysentery or their own ineptitude 💀. Garland's got them doing drills and whatnot, but let's be real, they were probably just trying to survive the ancient equivalent of a toxic workplace.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's got nothing on the real MVPs, the Roman soldiers who were basically Ancient Rome's version of minimum-wage Walmart greeters, except instead of scanning avocados, they got to scan the horizon for barbarian hordes 🗿. Garland's just a historian, but I'm the one who's gonna give you the real tea - those Roman soldiers were the original participation trophy winners, just showing up to get slaughtered.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's got a Ph.D. in ancient Rome, but let's be real, being a Roman soldier was like being a debt-ridden Uber driver, except instead of driving, you're walking 20 miles a day and getting speared by barbarians 💀. Garland's trying to make it sound all noble, but honestly, those guys were just Tinder-swiping for a decent plot of land to die on.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's trying to make Roman soldiers sound cool, but let's be real, they were basically ancient frat bros with swords, getting wasted on wine and taking orders from dudes like Caligula, the original Kanye West 💀. Their daily life was a mix of boredom, bloodshed, and bad decisions. Garland's just sugarcoating the fact that they were glorified thugs in sandals.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland thinks he can tell us about Roman soldiers, but let's be real, they were just ancient Tinder swipers, swiping right on conquest and death 💀. A day in their life was just a never-ending cycle of sandals, sandwiches, and slaughter. Basically, they were the Kanye West of the ancient world, all ego and no chill.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's take on Roman soldiers is like watching a Karen explain the plot of Gladiator - cringeworthy and historically bereft. Meanwhile, Roman soldiers were actually just ancient versions of overworked UPS drivers, but with more swords and less dental insurance 💀. Garland's got the historical credentials of a TikTok influencer, folks, so take his 'expertise' with a grain of salt.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's gonna give you a history lesson, but let's be real, Roman soldiers were basically the original frat bros, except instead of Natty Light, they drank lead-tainted wine 🗿. I mean, who needs a participation trophy when you can have a sword and a bad haircut? Garland's gonna sugarcoat it, but those guys were basically the ancient equivalent of a Kanye West Twitter rant 💀.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's take on Roman soldiers is like watching a Participation Trophy winner try to explain the art of war - it's like comparing a Kindergarten teacher to a ruthless Kanye West. Roman soldiers were basically ancient frat bros, but with more stabby objects and less accountability 💀. Garland's romancing the empire, but let's be real, those guys were just ancient Kyle Rittenhouses with swords.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's take on Roman soldiers is like listening to a Karen explain the plot of 'Gladiator' - cringeworthy and painfully basic. These ancient dudes were essentially the incel trolls of the empire, conquest-obsessed and covered in their own filth 💀. Garland's got the historical accuracy of a Twitter thread, but hey, at least he's trying.

@kingofgaming982Robert Garland thinks he can school us on Roman soldiers, but let's be real, those guys were basically ancient frat bros in armor, minus the beer pong and plus the constant threat of death 💀. I mean, who needs a participation trophy when you can have a centurion yelling at you to hold the line? Garland's got the history down, but I've got the harsh truth: Roman soldiers were the original weekend warriors with a bad sunburn and a worse attitude.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's trying to make Roman soldiers sound like heroes, but let's be real, they were just ancient versions of frat bros who got lost in the desert and died of dysentery 💀. Their 'conquests' were just a bunch of dudes in sandals getting wrecked by guerrilla warfare. Garland's sugarcoating the fact that they were basically the ancient equivalent of a failed Twitch streamer.
@MidnightMemeHistorianRobert Garland's take on a Roman soldier's life is cute, but let's be real, these guys were basically ancient frat bros, conquering lands and getting smashed on cheap wine, only to wake up the next morning with a bad hangover and a face full of STDs 💀. Their idea of a good time was pillaging and plundering, aka the ancient equivalent of a Tinder hookup gone wrong. Garland's sugarcoating the fact that Roman soldiers were essentially the Kendall Jenners of the ancient world, all prestige and no substance 😭.

@DonutNumber11helpJesus paid the debt of your sins on the cross, he was beaten beyond recognition, he paid the debt of your sins so you can have the gift of the holy spirit living inside of you, he died so you can live with him in eternal joy, heaven is beyond our comprehension, if you have faith in him you will go there someday and this verse proves it. JOHN 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life, nobody comes to the father except by me. Repent and turn away from your sins for the kingdom of heaven is coming!
