I'm from Brazil and baseball is not a very popular sport over here, specially between women. Luckly I found out that there are some girls where I live that play it, but I didn't wanna be completely lost, so I watched some MLB games and couldn't understand a thing lmao. Thank you so much for this video!

There is a lot more to it than I remember, I played in Australia when I was 15 for a season but 23 years later I am getting more interested in mlb again and it all seems so foreign/different to me LOL but thank you this helps me understand better and not me seem less than a noob/idiot (or true follower as so have coined it) great game to watch though - going to see the Jays and Red Sox in August 2026

— @bradmerry1016

4:10 How innings work

4:29 Object of the game

It makes me a little sad to think there are people who don't know the rules of baseball because it is a beautiful and perfect game. Every other sport there is a lot less strategy. It's the only sport where if you replace a player it's final. You can't just take players out for a rest. The other most important and unique thing about baseball is unlike other sports there isn't a time in the game where it becomes physically impossible for the losing team to win. Because there is no clock anything is possible. Where as in the other major sports there is a point in the game where everyone knows it's over. It's the thinking man's game.

Player's and coaches only need to know or use 10% of the rules. It's the umpires that will decode and explain the other 90%.

Ok. I'm from Spain and this video is my first foray into learning how baseball works. My next step was trying to find a full game "watch along" with explanation commentary in real-time to understand what's going on, and I couldn't find any. So maybe that's a good idea for a future video? Or does something like this exist and it's me who's not able to find it? 😂

Hi Dan, thanks for explaining all the rules of baseball, because I have been watching baseball videos of the Blue Jays recently , and at the start, I didn’t know anything while I’m watching baseball video, but now, I understand all the rules that you explained, thanks for that, have a good rest of your life!

I searched "baseball is for idiots" and ended up here. Anyway, coach Dan B, why are the Japanese players so much better than 99.9 American pro players (and Puerto Ricans are American, as in USA citizens)?

The deepest part was the batter vs pitcher. That Is something you cant see from only watching. Although you got the commentaries explaining live. Nice video

Hey! Just wanted to say thank you for this!
Being an Englishman, we know literally nothing about baseball.
As a kid, it was always so prominent in a lot of my favourite movies, though!
Thank you for such clear rules on baseball, now I can try to keep up during movies 😂

This is ridiculous: I’m 73 years old, never liked sports in my life, yet all of a sudden I’m trying to learn the rules of baseball after hearing so much about the Dodgers vs Blue Jays games in the WS. Thank you very much for this informative video, Coach Dan.

I came here after the dodgers and blue jays world series

@MegaCarlito08

You explained that brilliantly, I totally understand this game on a basic level now. However I have one question, well it's 2 really. Do you use video to determine if a ball was in strike zone? (If not it increases cheating possibilities or bad calls from official)

Question 2..Is the strike zone same size anf position for everyone, or would a 5foot tall person have a different zone to a 7foot person?

@furrybear7853

Thank you very much. I got into baseball watching Ohtani and this helped so much.

As a more casual baseball fan since the recent jays post season, this video gives me a better understanding of this sport and why it’s in my mind easier to follow, whereas hockey does have time limits.
Thank you so much for this video honestly.

I've got a question that I can't seem to solve. I know about fan interference. But what about fan assistance to help your team on the defense to get an out. If I were to go to a game and ask a player if I can assist them to give them an out. I'll provide an example where if I'm sitting in a section where there is a large gap between the field and the seats. If a ball is out of reach for a catch to be made, but instead me catching it I decide, "I will make sure this player gets an out," and I bounce the ball back towards the player with my cap. What would that player say? If that was too confusing, I apologize.

I’ve been going to baseball games for years and feel like I barely understood anything past the basics. This video was so helpful! 10/10 content, visuals, and explanations.

It’s a good thing there’s no tie in baseball, unlike five-day-long Test cricket matches that often end in a draw.

Grew up on bball, but didn’t really “get” the rules until we got involved with tball & little league. Watching major league feels simple, but watching kids break every rule will teach you how the game actually works.

Thanks so much for the video it was very informative. Sometimes I go to baseball games with friends and ask them loads of questions every time, im kinda tired of doing that and would love to be more engaged and understand whats going on. This vid helps a lot. I'll definitely check out the vid on positions next.

I had to watch this video with additional resources and pause a few times, but it's really great because it doesn't cover just the basics like all other "intro to baseball" videos.

I grew up playing baseball. I understand the game. I never thought about how convoluted it was. I tried to imagine myself as a person from somewhere other than North America (or Japan), learning about the game. I liked defining fair and foul territory. That graphic was good. I always knew the rules, but the strategy, both overall and within, I realize it now. Thanks for showing that.

Great content. Explained clearly like none other. Well done, coach.
