It’s an unpalatable truth that freedom can only come from within. Any hope for the people in Afghanistan who wish a life not ruled by theocracy lies in their own ability to create that. No outside government, military, or financial support can provide and sustain it for them.

Honest question, why did they not (in general) want to fight to not be run by the Taliban?

If they wish to live in the 8th century: let'em ! You get the government you deserve ! The world will simply pass them by, while they have no clue as to their increasing irrelevency.

We would have had a chance if we had supported the northern tribes; Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, etc. We played into the Pashtun Taliban's hands.

@dovahbro6725

Obviously its getting worse were no longer their giving them millions of dollars witch is like billions in currency just to get them to help fight the people taking over and also just to get them to clean their streets

@Die_Slow_21

I know, let’s import millions of these people to western countries. What could go wrong with that?

The Qu'ran is a book of war, the Taliban is just it's conclusion.
They will see half the population starving and turn to the Qu'ran and say it is Allah's will, we will be rewarded in the afterlife.
Thus they will not seek to better their governance, they will not seek scientific or moral enlightenment, because the Qu'ran is all they feel they need.
The Christian Church used to be like this too. Disease, poverty, millions of deaths, it was all the will of the Lord as written in the Bible. Only when some authority was removed from the Church did science begin to grow, and it took hundreds of years for life to improve.

Muslims can learn from the deaths of millions of Christians centuries ago. You are not meant to live in a theocracy. If you live in a theocracy, your leaders will never seek knowledge, they will never seek improvement, because they feel they have all the answers already in the Bible (or Qu'ran). They are wrong, but they are also in power, so they would rather rule over misery than serve in modernity.

Taliban wants to be in power.. let them figure it out. I don’t get why we are still sending them aid!!!

@robiny4457

Taliban's were the only ones willing to die for their beliefs, regardless of how messed up they are. Afghans weren't ready to die for democracy, liberty, progress and prosperity.
Only the Taliban are fit to rule that land. Don't complain, move on. They lived like that for thousands of years, they'll continue to live like that for another thousand years. They are fine, we are fine, everybody is fine just the way we are.

Afghanistan had decennia to build up and chose their destiny, even with foreign aid and military assistance in this matter. The moment the assistance stopped Taliban became the ruler.

This means that people don't oppose them enough or maybe even support them.

As the saying goes: "people deserve their government".

‏you will see a muslim influencer tell you how taliban is not following islam then proceed to not oppose them or hate on them hell in the arab world they literally praise taliban, i know because i see arab social media, its like day and night between english and arab social media

Afghanistan should be left alone as the shining beacon of what its like when your friendly religion of peace and its devout believers are left to their own devices

The Pakistani government hid Bin Laden from the world. Now, they fight against the forces they supported. Seems fitting.

@NotYou-hv9fi

As a Pakistani, I'll say something that most people overlook — Russia lost in Afghanistan partly because of us, and so did America. We built the Mujahideen that broke the Soviets, and we know better than anyone how the Taliban think, how they move, and how they operate. We gave them that playbook. That's exactly why this time is different.
For the first time, we are on the other side. And I genuinely believe we have better odds against the Taliban than any superpower that came before us.
Here's why. We have six million Afghan refugees sitting in Pakistan right now. When we push them back into Afghanistan, that alone will overwhelm the Taliban's ability to govern. They can barely manage what they have.
We know their strategy inside out — because we helped write it. No American general, no Soviet commander had that. We do.
We share a border with Afghanistan, which means we can sustain pressure in ways that distant powers simply cannot. And we're not alone — China and Iran both share borders with Afghanistan too, and we share borders with each other. That's not just a political alliance, that's a direct, connected supply line. Weapons, resources, coordination — it all flows without interruption. The Taliban face three neighboring powers with contiguous land access and aligned interests. That's a stranglehold no external force has ever managed to achieve.

Add to that Pakistan's air superiority, and I think we can do what Israel does — systematically dismantling their leadership over time.

We may not occupy Afghanistan. But we don't need to. We spread chaos, deepen their internal divisions, and push them into a civil war against themselves. That's what breaks them. And this time, the geography, the intelligence, and the coalition are all on our side.

Really difficult to sympathise with these people. They basically surrendered to the Taliban. Their army refused to fight them and just abandoned their positions letting the Taliban seize the country. If a force like the Taliban tried to overwhelm take everything from you then you should stand and fight.

The Afghan people had a chance to take control over their future but they refused to fight for it. They wanted US soldiers to fight, bleed and die for their future. So now it is what it is. Good effing luck.

As an American who spent 20 months in Kandahar, it was a lost cause. NATOs rules of engagement forced us to see the shooter, watch them raise their gun, fire, then we could fire. Even in a turret, I'd have to use my 240 before I could even consider my 50 cal. And their police and Arny did not want to fight and were corrupt.

Its the way its supposed to be now the west just want to send all of them back cause this lifestyle is incompatible with western living. They shuld have never been there in the first place.(UK)

Let’s make one thing clear for these dumb idiots in the comment section. (I’m afghan btw). I do not support the Taliban but what’s happening right now is NOT afghan culture. You can’t blame Islam for this. I don’t see anything like this in any Muslim country to this extent. The Taliban has used their own culture and spread it around the country. The afghans can’t do anything. Millions are starving, and things are getting worse for women. Thank u!
