Age of Easy Money (full documentary) | FRONTLINE

Video Overview & Insights

High inflation. Fear of recession. Disruptions, like the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank. How did the U.S. economy get here? A two-hour documentary special traces the road to this moment, and the role of the Federal Reserve, the country’s central bank.

What is the fed anyway and how does it have any authority? It’s definitely not in the constitution. The constitution says CONGRESS shall have the power to coin and regulate money. The fed is not Congress.

— @brianlittle717

FRONTLINE investigates the Fed’s epic economic experiment to revive the U.S. economy with what has been called an “easy money” policy and the far-reaching and sometimes unintended consequences.

“If we hadn't been driving our economy for 14 years with easy money and then tried to really quickly undo that now, we wouldn't be having these problems,” former top banking regulator Sheila Bair said in the documentary.

The government has grown where tax payers have run out of money to fund the government. Government spending and debt is now the concern.

— @georgevalente4223

From the 2008 recession, to the COVID pandemic, to the rise in inflation, to the current economic uncertainty, “Age of Easy Money” charts the American economy’s tumultuous course, the fragility of the financial system and the widening gap between Wall Street and Main Street.

The documentary examines what led to the Fed’s recent decisions to hike interest rates at a historic pace and probes the ongoing effects, offering a comprehensive and timely examination of the role of the institution at the heart of America’s economy.

We need a 2026 update.this so how is now going to auto play 😊😊

Human created economic-financial BS has created all evil in the entire world indeed !
The system was used in the very wrong way, it has created GREED the world dont need to succeed !
The middle class were always easy targets for tax-inspection, but are the ultimate job creators to keep local companies at work, creating local and regional jobs and welth as a result.
Can you imagine how much (as speaking for myself) tax inspection are loosing out because of this ?
In the 60ties I paid around 60k each quarter of taxes, after being crazy of all duties and bureacracy I stopped overnight around 60 years ago. But can you imagine as I had decided different working 60 years ahead with good access to capitaland payng perhaps now 500.000k each quarter good as access of capital was provided !
Altogether tax inspection missed out (perhaps) 10.000.000 euros of taxes.

If Democrats take power in 2026 you can expect a time like 2008 to be a small blip in American history. America will INTENTIONAL by the hand of the Democrat party collapse and become third world socialism. Think before you vote. They destroyed our money reserve in 2008; nothing is left for government failure in 2026

This was an absolutely amazing journalistic video and I believe it should win every award out there. Well done! You covered exactly what the American public needed to understand about the challenges of the current economy by going back to the very beginng of the 2006 era and showing the build up. I love how you also canvased both sides of the aisle currently on explaining the current vehicles in place to the lay person of why the Fed is doing what it is doing to try and correct it and what that is going to look like to the individual because I think most of us, me included, have been confused on how we got here. Thank you for this information, because it truly has helped me to come up with a potentially more workable personal action plan, at least I hope so.

Despite all smoke and mirrors, the FED is owned by the major banks. I don't believe they were ever planning to use the QE money to lend to the private sector. The FED could easily have mandated how the injected liquidity should have been spent. They obviously didn't.

If I were in that meeting about the Federal Reserve, the fiat dollar, and trickle‑down economics, I’d tell every one of them:

You traded more happiness now for yourselves at the cost of any happiness your great‑grandchildren could have had.

You engineered a system that steals from the unborn so you could feel richer today.

And the worst part?

You were already happy......

3 years ago this documentary told us that if the US government and the legislators did not enact policy regulating the banks regulating the stock market and If the Fed kept lowering interest rates that what would occur the fallout for the American public would year over year would continually getting bigger and harder for the average American citizen. Those that hold the majority in legislative Congress needed to enact legislative policies that would stop big Bank business and the billionaires from making Financial purchases I'm going further in debt to gain access to the lower fed interest rate where they basically buy one company go to the use that companies assets that the company has and borrow on that company to pay off a new company that they're going to purchase with the lower interest rates that the FED has been allowing to try to stabilize the economy to not hurt the American public because big business and Banks make money off of these transactions they have no reason to stop buying one business using its assets to get a loan to buy another and to repeat the process paying off one business while it goes into debt with the purchase of another one. The only people who win in this situation are the big businesses the banks and when they sell those properties that they've literally purchased from a prior loan and they use those gains to invest in the stock market they're making money hand over fist with the gaines that they make from the stock market those big corporations are continuously racking up more and more debt and the banks are making more and more money off the transactions and in the end when the FED has to raise the interest rates to keep the economy from collapsing and our dollar becoming worthless the big corporations and the banks are never going to stop doing this same exact pattern and habit and continually increasing the wealth division between the ultra wealthy and everyone else until the people that we elect to Congress pass legislative laws to prevent them from doing just that and in the end who does it hurt the most but the average Monday through Friday citizen who has to have three jobs just to pay the monthly bill and citizens that have the very least in our society the elderly the disabled we ultimately are going to go through the hardest times that we've ever had to go through in order to correct this and there's no stopping that but what we have to stop as American citizens is allowing our Congress to not be held accountable for not passing legislation that protects who the Constitution is supposed to protect which is We the People we have to end Corporation and Banks from being able to rob Peter to pay Paul for their financial gains and for our devastation in job loss in the cost of our Goods continuously getting higher and being outpaced in wage growth an unable to afford housing. It's not the feds fault It ultimately is the Congress and the legislative policies that are not being put into place to protect the American citizen but to allow the corporations the billionaires to gain financially and then invest in the stock market. The feds responsibility in this is like your bathroom sinks overflow hole when the drain is plugged corporations in big Banks fill up the bathroom sink with water and when the sink starts to overflow it goes into the FED drain hole which prevents the entire bathroom from flooding and that's because the people who are responsible for turning off the water to the house and those are the acting government and the legislators that sit in Congress and what happens to the American public when those things don't work our houses fill up with water and start growing mold until we can no longer live there. Well the American public is currently still in the house trying to get the water out of it but the mold has been growing out of control and we are about ready to be past the point of no return where we have to leave the house it is going to be up to each and every citizen to put pressure on our government and the legislators that make policies and our laws in this country if we ever want to live in a house again.

In my estimation after George W. Bush the country was asking for something different. I don’t think Obama could’ve done much more than he did. When he was president he took on an economy worse since the Great Depression. He also faced a lot of resistance in house, senate, and supreme courts. Black people were very disappointed due to Barack giving LGBTQ+ the biggest bump in civil rights while the increased violence towards black people since the 60s. Trump took over a overwhelmingly rebounding economy. As history has taught the so called fiscally conservative Republicans have an ill effect on the economy. 8-12 years with Trump has destroyed what Obama did but people forget
