There are some similarities with European football or “soccer” as you like to call it.
American football, on the face of it, looks like a simple sport. But it's full of idiosyncrasies that make it the most popular sport in the USA.
One of those idiosyncrasies is the positions. In a game of gridiron football, each team has three groups. But what positions make up those groups?
From what i understand from this, the guy who punts isn't the same guy kicking the field goals? I do get the differences of each and that both are by no means easy to do. I just assumed kickers always did both.

I’m a Brit and love watching NFL. The only thing I find negative about this sport is if your on defence, you never get to attack, being from a rugby background, that’s always the funnest part of the game

@ThisispurI've been watching football for five years and some of these terms are still "new" to me, as in I hear the defensive line positions get thrown around but still struggle with who is what. 😂 And don't get me started on the weird rules.

Could you please provide insights into the coaching team's roles? Additionally, I would love to learn about how the draft is organized and how players are selected or traded. It would also be helpful to understand how players' and coaches' contracts are negotiated, as well as the processes surrounding player retirements or those who become inactive.
Furthermore, I would appreciate information on penalties, referee signals and calls, and how plays are called, including the various types of offensive and defensive plays. Thank you!

@ksf1990Why is the kicker who kicks the field goal sometimes also the kicker who punts? For example, I've seen Harrison Butker for the Chiefs kick a field goal, then kick the next punt to the opposing team. Is this unusual? He doesn't always do it, but he does sometimes.
@sarahraven2876I was shocked to learn that football games are only about 20 minutes between the whistles, however a typical broadcast is closer to 3 hours. This is ideal for packing in commercials and I imagine has a lot to do with it being the #1 sport on US television, with such highly valued franchises.

How many times do you use a ball?
Ball being round, foot as in using your foot to kick or pass the ball. It may be intricate but the name is ... misleading to say the least since there is another sport which ALREADY had that name over 50 years before this sport came to be.
