Most of the buildings, somewhere around 85%, in the area specified by you, will have serious problems in an earthquake greater than 5-6 degrees. Many of them are included in seismic risk class 1 or 2. Red dots were placed at the entrance, but the owners removed them so they could rent. Be interested in what year the block was build. Driving in Romania is crazy for Americans. Don’t drive. Take public transportation. They have a good train system that can take you most p laces in the country and it’s very cheap. Taxis are plentiful. Most places are walkable. Too many people park their cars on the sidewalks.

Old people (over 50-60) were not taught English when they were in school, because Romania was a communist country controlled by the USSR. So languages like French or even Russian were taught (for a period of time, but Russian really did not catch up). English was only taught after the fall of the communism, starting from the 90s. Today, English is pretty much taught to any school children, sometimes even from kindergarten. So the younger the generation, the better their English is. Also, it's pretty much impossible not to find a decent amount of young people (under 30-45) that speak English in any major city. The rule of thumb is that the smaller the town is, the less people will speak decent English. Some do speak a bit of English, but they are shy to use it talking to a native English speaker, because they haven't used it for ages after graduating whatever school they were attending.

Lived in ro for 11 years in total. Back and forth from cali from 2011. When I first came romania was a gem. Now it is over priced. A beer in the city center was around $2. Now its almost $10 for the same beer.....there are nicer places if you wanna save money. Come to romania if you wanna party. Its always going to be a great place for that. Safe and the ratios are proper.

We have a family flat in Brasov (about 2-3 hours outside Bucharest, depending on traffic). My wife is Romanian and I love Romania! We split out time between the US and Romania. Great food, great people! But the drivers in Romania... INSANE!!! At least they use their blinkers though. 😂 And yeah, Romanians LOVE to party!! Musicians can make a very good living there.

The monoculture is very present compared with something like the US, but once you go to the Transylvanian region, you will encounter many Hungarians. It's our biggest minority. If you go in the center of the country in Transylvania you will encounter Transylvanian Saxons (Germans). If you go to the sea region, you will find many turks or russians speaking communities.
The language barrier is a bit tricky. The people listening to that type of music are generally older generations or more simpler people. If you change the environment you will find many English speaking people. in the cities, outside of Bucharest as well. Quite some Americans in my city never bothered to learn the language because the majority can speak some English. It's not something mandatory.
