American Reacts to a Typical Day at a British School

This video is frustrating me as a british pereon why am i watching this

that was pretty similar to my school, we wore blazers (jumpers) with our shirts tho. The singing can be religious but not always in my school we often sang non religious songs. Normally there would be some announcements or a little speech or some kids would do a presentation before we sang though.
Pizza and chips (fries) was a friday only thing, it was pasta, mash and sausage, fish fingers, or roast dinner or jacket potato there was a weekly menu. We had deserts like jelly and icecream, cake and custard, fruit salad, yogurt and fruit, jam rolly polly, or rice pudding.
There are a lot of primary schools (age 3-12) in the uk, every town or village has one ant there are several per city. it was considered a big class if you had 20 kids in your class, most classes had 2 years together. at least that's how my schools did it. You would be in walking distance to your primary school it's only for highschools you'd take the bus, and they're not yellow or specificly for schools they would be hired coaches or public busses that would do normal bus jobs between picking the kids up.

Also they must've told the students to be on there best behaviour because its normally not like this its normally filled with roadmen, students swearing, always disruptive.

We don't have school buses and we have assemblies but we don't singing hymns that's ony for religious schools

The kid is in high school parents dont take you at that age unless they drive

I'm British and I must say that when I think about it it is a bit overkill and also we do quite often have buses (not the yellow buses) but when it's a first\primary school and it's local we often either get dropped of by are parents, cycle or walk.

This was all staged so of course everyone acted so polite. It is a private school and since a hymn was sung it may be religious.

Kids walk, cycle, take a local public bus, go by car here in Uk. Very normal. It depends on how far they are away from the school and what transport is available. We do not have very many school busses here.

school buses at least in Wales are for comprehensive kids (from my understanding its a mix between middle school and highschool) who live farthest from the school to get on, other kids have to pay to get on a regular bus and most schools comp the money used and help kids pay for it OR it's reserved for special needs kids to safely get to and from school but most students walk the half hour to an hour mark there and back. also to add, in Wales they simply read your name out for registration and we respond with YMA which is here. if youre not in registration, youre classed as late. Assembly was tedious and often for nothing, just news about the ongoing week, breaktimes is like recess, we have 2 of them in primary school. One after the first 2 lessons, then lunchtime break and on fridays we had golden time which means for the last hour of the day we get to play in the classrooms and listen to whatever music we wanted, anyone who wasnt at the top of the golden chart we had simply had to sit it out and work or go see the headmaster for misbehaving in class so often.

We have public transport buses, trams, trains. Some children walk, bike, take public transport - a few children get dropped off by car if it is convenient to the parent and they live a long way from the school.

people arent actually that polite i think its just for the video and i think this is a primary school based on the way the have assembly and say 'goodmorning mrs _ ' , if u find a high school video id recommend watching thats its more realistic. also some schools have busses but not all and theyre not yellow ones like the US theyre just like normal busses

An hour walk is not bad at all, my walk to school was 40 mins which is completely normal in fact probably around the average

We do have busses but they are red but really public and some schools have there own school busses but no yellow the school can honestly design it themselves to get on a bus (public) you get a ostyer card aka a card to get in transport that's train bus tram not uber or if you are a adult you have to pay. in assembly you normally have different themes at least 3 or 4 times a week not including weekends thats when we rest fro school also we don't sing at lunch in my school mabey others but don't think so. We have 3 or 2 breaks a day the morning break lunch break and afternoon break in school but in year 5 and 6 also upwards you have 2 or 1 we are polite 😉 but there can be some people that can sometimes be bad. bye the way im from London and if you went to primary school in britan you will just have peak memories oh yeah last thing we call it break time love from talya in London❤

Ok, I’ve been in both the American and British school syste, so I can comment on both from a chaotic neutral perspective:

Best safety: neither
Best education: neither
Best food: neither

In the US there is the obvious threat of guns, but UK schools have the threat of knife crime, which lots of people are affected by regularly. The US is famous for bad education, but the UK isn’t great either. And food in both is shit. However, I’d give the slight edge to the US because of no uniforms and schools being more colourful (UK schools are old, grey and dull).

If you don’t know wether to move to the UK or US for better education for your kids, my recommendation is homeschooling.

From my experience at school, the only bit that was right was the fact we wore uniforms. Other than that, there was no singing in assembly it was just get in, sit down, shut up get told stuff and then go to lesson. There was pretty much some sort of fight every day, lunch time was around 30 minutes, where everyone did their own thing and then the last lesson some people were going to lesson covered in mud because they played football and then go home. There was at least 1 person in every classroom who didn't know that deodorant had been invented. That was a standard school day in north Essex. The uniform is ridiculously expensive and although we didn't have people bringing guns to school, there were fairly regular knives being brought to school with some of the schools ending up with metal detectors at the entrances and sometimes bags were checked. We also had a police officer based at our school. Other schools might be different but I grew up in a dump 😂

Yes, most kids live within walking distance. We are a small country with small towns. It used to take me 5 mins to walk to my school as a child, and my daughters school is like 2 min walk. 😂😂 If a school was like 3 miles away then they would take a bus.

A uniform shows respect and belonging to the school. It also helps to ID kids who bunk off school and are seen in public. Or a lost kid ect. Also, it saves us parents from constantly washing their normal clothes or having the piss taken out of them.

There are plenty of schools like this in the United Kingdom and there are plenty that are nothing like this, I have taught in both. All schools have uniforms. Walking, biking, getting a lift or taking public transport

Our towns and cities are much closer together than in America, so the schools are pretty much set within the local community. Most kids at my daughters' school walk there as they live within a 20 minute walk of it. The uniforms are pretty much at every school, though not every uniform is as flashy, I'd probably say the school in the video is a C of E school in a 'middleclass' area. And the politeness of the children was probably a bit exaggerated for the camera, but generally it was pretty representative. Not all schools have religious assemblies, my daughters' school is very multicultural, there are 25+ different 'first-languages' spoken by the children, nevermind religious beliefs, so they don't promote any one religion in favour of another.

This would be a religious school. There's a show called Educating Yorkshire which would be more accurate to the normal life of a British school child. We all wear uniforms like that but we don't sing hymns in assembly every morning. walking to school every morning is also normal in Britain, sometimes we have school buses but they're only for the kids that live further away and they're public transport buses that everyone uses, not yellow school buses.

There is such thing of having more then one set of uniform.

Same Irish Schools walked 5 miles a day very safe keeps one fit and healthy as well. Uniforms prevent fashion shows and provides equality

There were lolipop ladies or men when I went to school in the UK in the 60's. They are an institution.

Do no American school age kids walk to school if they live close by? In England there are mo school buses. When I was at K thro' 11 I went to school on a public bus. Fortunately the bus stop was right opposite the house. At grammars school I went there by train. This required that I walked about 200 yards to the train station. At the other end there was a walk of about 1/2 mile from the train station to school. This was back in the late 40s and early 50s. All quit normal. Train doesn't run any more so not sure how it works today.

Uniform is also a way to keep all students equal. Not a gang of rich brats in fancy clothes looking down on some poorer kids in shorts and t-shirts...

Tbf this school looks pretty fancy compared to mine back when I was in primary and secondary school, my high school was not well manned and you would never see everyone actually wearing their uniforms cause they were uncomfortable and too hot in summer but too cold in winter, got home everyday and immediately got changed out of it.
Also had boys who would break the bathroom sink, others smoking out front
