This book ain't that good tbh, I don't know what's the hype about. People saying there's so much political intrigue, there isn't that much? Just one prince gets killed and another prince gets crowned. Jude never really faces the consequences of her actions, she being a mortal killed one of the high ranked member's son and got away with it. No matter what she does except her inner turmoil there literally isn't anything bad happening to her. Trayn isn't the worst, both just have different ways to survive in this world. One wants to fit in and another realised she never can. Carden wasn't all that cruel to her, I expected much more cruelness.

After reading the scenes of Cardan bullying Jude I was confused as to how will they end up as lovers. The ''crawl to me and kiss my leg'' scene was the absolute killer to any potential romantics that could occur in the future.
And ofc everything was explained by his tough childhood and ongoing abuse. Cardan in the beginning and by the end of the book is like Nate Jacobs in season 2 and season 3, lol.

They are faeries inspired by english and irish folklore. Most of the types of faeries mentioned like the "high fae" or sth (humanlike) , pixies, selkies, sprites, spriggans, hobs, banshees etc. and habits like using salt or turned upside down clothing to resist enchantments are all from there.

Important to note about the Court of Termites and the Alder King’s son, they’re previous main characters in Holly Black’s other works! Severin is from The Darkest Part of the Forest, and Roiben is from Tithe and Ironside. And having read these books, you get a little more insight into why they’re willing to listen to this random human.
Severin’s consort is a human named Ben, and Ben’s sister Hazel is a knight in Severin’s service. A guy who’s dating a human is not going to outright dismiss her for being a human.
Similar situation with Roiben. We do see a bit of his consort Kaye in this book (they’re eating Chinese together, it’s adorable), and Kaye is a pixie, but the thing is she was a changeling and was raised in the human world not knowing she was a faerie. Roiben fell in love with Kaye before he knew she was a pixie, and Kaye still enjoys hanging out in the human world doing human things. So Roiben’s a lot more comfortable with human things than other faeries.
