I believe we will advance past Congo and then Mexico, but the quarter-finals could mark our exit from the World Cup. We are likely to be eliminated by Brazil unless we employ the “Bermuda Triangle” formation.



This tactical setup was devised and popularized by football journalist Dean Scoggins—The Sun’s greatest and only football tactical expert—who reportedly developed the concept during a casual kick-about in his garden. As the story goes, Scoggins was playing with his son, 'Football Guru Junior', when the boy struck a giant inflated ball that hit Scoggins square in the face, resulting in a concussion that left him “seeing stars.”

After recovering the toys he had thrown out of his pram, Scoggins regained his composure and, instead of returning to his cot, sat down to watch the match. After the game, the knight-in-waiting wrote in his post-match analysis that Ghana had used his tactic against England to make our midfield trio of Anderson, Rice, and Bellingham disappear. Fortunately, the tactic only partially worked, as Rice was the only one who went missing—and has not been seen since.



I worry that Ancelotti, arguably the best manager in the world, could counter that formation by “vanishing” the bus we intend to park in front of Pickford. However, even if we lose, it would still be historic, as it would mark the first time a German–English team had ever gone on to achieve an “International Treble.” Not only would we be knocked out of the World Cup, but Tuchel and his players could be confronted by an army of England fans patiently waiting outside the stadium with a hero’s welcome—an encounter that could result in the England players’ clubs facing long-term injuries next season.



It’s not coming home—to England or Germany. Sixty years of hurt has stopped me dreaming and I dread England doubling up on it. What a nightmare.

England felt like such a happy place during Euro 96. I remember the weather being glorious for most of the tournament, everyone being all smiles, the nation united, non-football fans becoming fans, and this being on the radio constantly and everyone knowing the words.

Or are those just nostalgic memories? Young boys in the park, jumpers for goalposts and all that!
