There are actually our places in LA that burn off flames. Refinery flare stacks in areas like Carson, burn off excess gas, creating massive, fiery plumes, which I think was actually the inspiration for that opening scene. I remember the first time I saw it at night. I was like “Wait are we driving into Blade Runner?” given how the world feels now maybe we did!

I think the change from fucker to father was wrong to make. It deminishes roys apparent humanity and instead places him back into the structure and heirarchy that he is attempting to escape. thats the whole point of the movie. Those who appreciate life most deserve it. those who squander it or exploit it in others are the monsters. He is not the father, he is indeed the fucker.

I've always thought the film was really showing that the replicants desired "life" more than the humans - This passion for life has been lost by humans, and thus they perhaps are no longer deserving of it.

during filming Harrison Fords son looked so similar to his father he was used during the snake seller scene when Deckard questions the snake seller.+ Ridley Scott insists Deckard is a replicant.

Almost all the meaningful characters in the movie are associated with the animals as a totem. That is not just empathy, it is a directors master stroke. Yes, Rachel is a spider. And Leon is a turtle.
Gaff is the only non-animal, a gaffer, the Zoo supervisor; it shouldn't have been a real name.

/* ----- VIDEO INFORMATION ----- */

Now Ridley Scotts Blade Runner is widely regarded as one of the most influential movies of all time. It's style has went on to inspire so many different things in popculture and it's legacy has loomed large over film, anime and video games ever since it's release.

the kanji 永 (eternity) is just a messed up 氷 (ice). There are too many messed up Japanese characters, particularly of Katakana alphabet to be sure that it is the case. Why did this happen? The artist obviously knew only Chinese a little, trying to comprehend quick notes given to him by Bob Okazaki (the noodle pops), thats my theory. It could be also James Hong himself incorrectly corrected the props design. There is no 氷 in Chinese script, it is different. But 永 is the same, so he have written that, not clearly understanding the script before it was too late.

— @halehale7829

It's something that I've had a bit of a weird history with and after feeling like it fell flat on my first watch it's a movie that I've grown to love more and more the more that I've watched it. The futuristic film noir was something I watched back as a teen and I didn't really understand what was going on until I read the source material, watched multiple documentaries and just engrossed myself in this world.

There's so much going on with it that they don't talk about in this video I'm gonna be explaining it all and also talking about the ending. There's so many hidden details and easter eggs layered throughout and hopefully this video changes the way you look at the movie.

Best film ever. 👍

Based on the Book Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep this Philip K Dick adaptation might be one of his most widely known works because of how much of a cult following that the film has built. I think it's one of the movies that catapulted the author to the point where his name is up there alongside Stephen King in that he's a name that can go on the poster alongside the director and cast in order to sell a movie. Everyone in Hollywood has been after some Dick at some point.

Great breakdown, sadly misssing a nod to the amazing Vangelis score though I feel

— @Panthraz

Everyone in Hollywood has been after some Philip K Dick at some point and his works been adapted into films like Total Recall, Minority Report, The Adjustment Beareau and many more. Now the name Blade Runner doesn't actually feature in the book and this was something that was brought across from another science fiction novel that the creative team owned the rights to.

Deckard most definitely is human. But throughout the movie he's forced to question his humanness. Blade Runners are not real police, more like state-sanctioned killers.

I like all the versions including the one with the narration
What was narration feels more like detective film noir and I like that too. I felt more read in on the narrated version.

Although I enjoyed this video he’s wrong about a whole bunch of stuff, there’s no indication that there was WW-3, it’s just supposed to be that humans have destroyed the environment thru pollution

unicorn 100% means Deck is a replicant

@escapegulag
@

Roy is the closest you will ever see to an anime character in real life. no wonder this movie inspired anime clones

@escapegulag

If Deckard was a replicant, his tenure as a ‘Blade Runner’ would have been less than four years, seems like his retirement from the job in order to be brought back would be meta and unnecessary. Never could personally justify that within the timeline.

Robot is actually Czech word not Russian word "robotnik" this terms was made by Czech author Karel Čapek and his novel "R.U.R." (Rossumovi univerzální roboti) and it is about artificial human being, but the meaning is same as you explained it ;)

I really like this video but I don’t like how you also keep bringing up blade runner 2049 considering I haven’t seen it yet, I’d much rather just hear about it in your 2049 video I had to keep jumping ahead so I wouldn’t spoil anything for myself but this is just a personal problem other than that great video!! 🔥🔥🔥

It’s amazing that the director and the main character hated each other - but side by side they made each other immortal in Art - God what a film!

Saw the first Blade Runner 2 days ago now and saw 2049 for the 5th time a day after and now i finally get to comprehend most of this 😂

@RYSHU20

This deep-dive helped me understand something about Deckard (even if it was 2 years after it first posted). And that point is, Deckard CAN NOT be a Replicant, just as Harrison Ford thinks. The reason is simple: Because in the sequel BR 2049, Deckard, IS STILL ALIVE!

For that to be true, Deckard either A) CANNOT be a replicant which obviously means he was human all along, or B) At some point in between the films, Deckard found something, or someone, that worked to extend his life past the 3 year "planned expiration date" that all Replicants have built in to them!
Therefore, the only conclusion is that Deckard was human and NOT a replicant - as so many others (including Ridley Scott himself) actually believe.

@marcs.6913

when i watched it i took for granted that hes human and prefer it that way tbh.

@soldatheero

If deckhard is a replicant how come he is so much weaker? he is human level of strength

This breakdown REALLY makes me want to compare The Fifth Element against Blade Runner. The parallels are there!

@IRideLikeAnIdiot

A "unicorn" could possibly mean a "Uniquely special" replicant

@IRideLikeAnIdiot

The Chinese-looking noodle vendor sounds a lot like the noodle vendor in The Fifth Element. Also - the non-English speaker in the flying car who can actually (eventually) speak English - being chased by flying police cars

The questioning that reveals replicants is the Turing Test, btw

Replicants do have emotions, they are just underdeveloped because they are just a few years old max.
