[Brackets & Parentheses] The Secret to Controlling Suno AI Music with Lyrics

Video Overview & Insights

FX Co-Producer isn’t just another Suno prompt helper…

OK. I think I may understand brackets now. Interesting. However the way you did it. Can it only be added that way? And I mean all and not just Verse 2. Can you even make one's between two separate spots?

I started doing songs on Suno about 3 months ago. I am barely scratching the surface in my understanding of it. I have made many attempts to finish songs the way I want them. I am very picky when it comes to my music. I have done the same song 30 times if I have to. I need to learn from guys like you the little tricks . ChatGPT doesn’t always come up with the best music and lyrics. I have to learn every trick I can.

I have used parentheses for instrument instructions also, and it also works. I actually had more luck than with brackets...

Great video tho.

Square brackets are useful but Suno often ignores them. Learn to write amazing style descriptions. That is the real key to writing professional sounding songs on Suno. My last 2 songs are just so much better compared to all the others I have written because I have taken style descriptions to another level.

In this video, I share how to use a simple Lyrical Structure to control more of the music you generate.

Too bad this is a little old because I have Beta V5. I have lots to learn because I'm not an advanced intermediate producer. I love using the Sax 🎷/horns/neo soul and then glitch ambient hip-hop that's reflective like Kid Cudi but sped up. Lastly I've made music for Idiots for family who don't know what XRP is or My Mom and Aunt thinking all digital media is about likes vs truth.

🔧 Tools Used:

Suno AI v4.5+: https://suno.ai

Hi Frank, excellent breakdown on brackets for structure and parentheses for echoes/backups—super helpful for fine-tuning Suno outputs in my poetry-to-music project! Applied it directly to Emily Dickinson's "For each ecstatic instant" on V2Melody (glitchy darkwave neo-soul mashup capturing that joy-pain tension). Your tips leveled up my performance maps big time. Thanks!

Brackets tells the AI about structure. Both sections are a little bit different. HOWEVER, the AI doesn't applies any explicit style on them. On the video, the Verse 2 should be the only one having a piano with texture, but Suno added the piano to the full song.

Do you find brackets and parentheses are useful to create instrumental music as well?
And if so, would you please provide and example? Thanks so much.

It would be more useful to list all commands that can be used inside brackets with small examples and a structured video, create a script, this would extremely reduce the size of the video to just the useful information. 🙏💥👍

A note to suno users.
You should be doing a sample of your own voice using a decent mic in a daw there are free daws out there if you don't want buy one.
Don't use any affects only dessing n eq cut all freq under 20 hz no reverb or delay etc, just a clean voice.
Now make a persona in suno n use it for all your tracks.
If you don't suno will use the suno voice the problem with that is thousands of suno songs have same voice.
Using your own will give original voice, suno will clean it up re pitch it etc but its yours

Ps turn the publish slider off when u create the persona otherwise your persona goes public

One of the main issues I am having is I write my own lyrics and I have a melody. I sing the song a cappella. I then upload the song I have sung. No instruments and I want Suno to create the music. I can’t figure out how to get the program to not change the voice. I don’t mind if it enhances my vocal but I want it to remain my voice. Is this possible.

I've been using brackets and parentheses. I think how much they are honored may depend on how high you have the Weirdness and Style Influence settings in 4.5. I often have both settings at 80%. I don't always get the backup vocals where I'm expecting them, and the AI will often ignore what I've requested inside brackets. But if I state a request in the Style section, it's usually more closely adhered to for me. Thanks for the video!

@eposic
@

I am currently using brackets. But parenthesis? That's awesome work, thanks for this info.

I started playing with suno again after a long hiatus last week( I haven't touched it since V1) and am just starting to understand some of the new features. Tagging, brackets and parentheses. I started using chatGPT early on for lyrics in combination with Suno generated lyrics and it offered to generate formatted templates for Suno to understand. That's where I started to see some of the tagging features and brackets. It added lots of sound fx and production notes based on the in depth. And specific chatgpt conversation I was having. I've been producing music for a long time, mostly produce instrumental tracks and want very specific things when im trying to include vocals. Its more for atmosphere, adlibs, spoken word intros and an occasional chorus and verse. It also gave great suggestion for alternative tags that sometimes work if others aren't. I recommend using a third party app like chatGPT when working to create your description and lyrics just for that ability alone. Suno also comes up with some solid lyrical choices that might need tweaking and I also use chatGPT for that for alternate word and lyric choice.

@umanoid1523
@

I think the only ethical way to use SUNO is to go through the trouble of writing and composing the song your self, then use audio upload, write and sing your own lyrics, and use an audio influence of at least 50%. Otherwise its just blind plagarism.

@SirAgrypnia
@

Suno literally will NOT listen, I use upload audio of my own songs that I composed, and the lyrics I wrote, but it cannot understand that I want the lyrics to be song as a choir for the whole of it, no matter what I write in the prompt the style the lyrics or even the audio I upload.
