Brandon's Guillain Barre Syndrome (GBS) Journey

Hi, I was diagnosed with Guillane Barre syndrome aged 12 years. In those days the illness was unheard of. It was one of the most frightening times of my life. When I was at school one day, we did cross country, and I got back to school when everyone else had gone home, my legs didn't want to carry me, and I was exhausted. I gradually got worse. I had flu like symptoms and went off my legs completely. I was admitted to hospital, where I underwent test after test, lumber punctured and the like, which were very painful. I had to blow into a tube to check my lungs, luckily the illness didn't go to my lungs, but I developed double vision lost control from the waisted down, and was in a wheelchair. Some of the nurses were not kind to me as I got accused by some doctors of making the illness up for attention. No child could fake an illness like this one. They finally let me home. I didn't go out, I couldn't go to school, and was not sent any school work home. I was too embarrassed to be seen out in a wheelchair in front of my school friends. I had to learn to walk again. It took 2 years of my life to learn how to do things again, and lost 2 years of education that I could never get back. I was so grateful to have recovered as my mother was told by doctors that n could die from this illness, but obviously I was a child and wasn't told this until years later. I forgot to mention that while the nurses were bathing me they let me go and let me drop to the floor on purpose several times just to see if I was really crippled. The pain in my legs was excruciating as the muscles had seized so pulled every muscle in both legs, however there were a few kind nurses too. As I say, I was so happy to have survived and recovered from it, however it has left a legacy as these neurological illnesses do. This illness affects people indifferent ways, but j hope my story helps anyone suffering from this.

My nephew developed GBS only days after the Covid vaccine and he has been on ventilator since then. He could only move his fingers. It's been more than 3 years now. I hesitated to show him this video.

Was it caused by a vaccine because GBS can be caused by reaction to alot of vaccines like influenza shots and such. I will not get the vaccines as I am afraid of getting GBS.

In June of 2017 my adult daughter was diagnosed with Guillain Barre Syndrome too. ❤

I’m now 78 years old.
November 1999 to about April 2000 I contracted GB from that year’s flu shot.
Excruciating unbearable pain, I thought I would never make it to the next morning.
Paralysis affected face, arms and legs with difficulty swallowing.
With the help of my wife and family plus lots of prayers I survived.

What a beautiful story and I pray that he continues to doing well. You sir are a strong man to go through this and I see you have succeeded ❤

My sister had this disease she was quite young. Her heart stopped and she remained with a developmental disability that caused uncontrollable seizures.

I was diagnosed when I was 20 in 1983. I was a drummer and an artist. I was totally paralyzed and on a ventilator with my eyes taped shut. I was on a ventilator for 3-1/2 months. I had to learn how to do everything all over again. I only recovered about 65%. Today, I 63 with a son and a daughter and 2 wonderful grandkids. It’s been a hell of a life.

I'm grateful that medicine has improved. In 1966 my father developed Guillain Barre and within 2 weeks he was gone. Some people did recover--he just wasn't one of them. So it is bittersweet but mostly sweet to see Brandon recover and to see the family come out stronger.

In May 1995—two weeks before the wedding—we went through the same thing. Thank God it didn't affect my wife's respiratory system, but it took her almost four months to recover. It was a nightmare. Thanks for sharing your story. God bless your beautiful family.

I survived a diagnosis in 2015, i been given vaccine booster shoots and was paralyzed 11 days later. I’m doing okay now, still have a lot of weakness.

So inspiring. I’ll never meet this man, but I won’t forget him, either. What a struggle of strength and endurance. Beautiful man with a beautiful family. I couldn’t be happier for him … them! ❤

This horrible disease has been linked to flu shots. I had a boss who was stricken down with it and he was in so much pain he begged his doctor to cut his legs off.
