Brother Bear - Behind the confession scene...

So, you're telling me YOU didn't eat 'em, and you have NO IDEA where they are?

Yeah remind me again why this emotional confession got drowned out by Phil Collin's singing in the final version?

It’s way better than actually scene we got from this movie

I have mixed feelings about this version versus the final one, because I feel like there's just SLIGHTLY too much dialogue in this part that isn't as strong as just... imagining the emotion.
Like I'd probably cut the part between 1:00 and 1:50, because it feels like too much of just... expositing the "we're like brothers now" feelings that were expressed much more naturally in earlier scenes.

2026 Anyone??

I greatly prefer this version over the final version, it's so much more emotional and impactful than the final version. Drowning out the conversation with the song diminished its impact so much that I almost don't want to watch the original movie again because of it.

I always believed that a song cheapens the scene and a shortcut way out of talking about a difficult talk about Murder.

As someone who did find the final film version very effectively tear-jerking (Phil's voice just does things to me, guys), I'm actually afraid to watch this. Judging by all the comments, this would tear my soul out.

They should have kept it like this I hated the music they put over kenai talking!

What the hell were they thinking cutting this scene, there is no good reason for it. Slapping a phill collins song over this incredibly important pay off moment where Koda learns the truth from Kenai totally undercuts the weight of the scene. We can't just sit with the characters in this vulnerable moment, and feel the tension as Kenai recaps what happened, knowing that hes building up to revealing a truth that will break Koda.

Damn. I like this a lot more, but honestly to me, I loved the final version.

This scene must be really personal for Joaquin Phoenix as well, as his brother River Phoenix died of drug overdose at 23 years old.

As much as the Final Cut with the song still breaks my heart into a hundred pieces, it would have been so much better if we got to hear Kenai tell Koda the truth. Was that so hard? Yeah, it’s sad but it’s supposed to be. You could’ve had this scene play out THEN play the song afterwards.

This and Fullmetal Alchemist I feel are some of the most powerful stories about brotherhood bonding.

I love both versions

There’s a video cinema therapy did with one of the films directors and according to the director they felt this was a bit too harsh for the ending.

Granted I can see what he means especially where Koda does go to save Kenai in the end(In fact I don’t think he ever finds out Kenai killed his mom). But at the same time I feel the Phil Collins song takes away from the appropriate emotions of the scene.

I don't understand why this was cut out from the finale movie. It would've been one of the saddest moment in Disney history.

He didnt know anything about the other side. Lucky for him he found this child that taught him how to do all those things and a lot more.🐻🧸. children magical creatures don't understand hate that's when were lucky.

I like hearing the dialogue, but I think the finished product makes for a much stronger scene. Not hearing everything that's said between them, but knowing what Kenai is confessing, your mind fills in the gaps. How would you tell a child you love you murdered his mom? How could you even broach that subject? I think the song and the little pieces of dialogue left in are more powerful than just outright saying it.

No wonder that they put a song to censored Kenai story it is dark also that in a delete scene Koda is clueless to understand until Kenai reach the end of the story but in a final cut Kods feel concerned or common sense that Kenai is trying to say.

Personally, I like both versions with they're unique approaches. With the one with the song, were allowed to imagine our own dialogue as to what's being said, and you still get a pretty clear idea from the facial features and music. And with the original one here, you get an emotional, straightforward dialogue full of regret and honesty. Both versions are genuinely beautiful and tragic in they're own ways, and they really shouldn't be unfairly compared so much

I can’t believe Kenai killed koda’s mother the movie and he has broken the all very important law in nature never underestimate this protective mother grizzly bear defending and protecting her cub

I prefer this version than having a fuckass Phil Collins song that tells you how to feel being played over it

This would’ve improved the movie a lot in my opinion if this got in i would’ve loved brother bear but because of it i don’t still good but not great

WOW! IM 27 YRS OLD & THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IM HEARING THE ACTUAL DIALOGUE THE SONG IN THE FILM DROWNS OUT! DEFINITELY SHOULD’VE KEPT THIS IN!

We’re the same kids that survived Mufasa’s death, we could’ve survived hearing Kenai’s confession to Koda. Also, bravo to Joaquin Phoenix! He did a phenomenal job as Kenai, but the voice acting here is immaculate! He literally sounds tormented coming to the realization that he did in fact do something wrong & now he has to break that horror to Koda. Just bravo!

When Kenai said.. It's partly about a man and partly about a bear.. but mostly it's about a monster.. he wasn't referring to Koda's mother. He was referring to himself. A man who had let his anger get the better of him and through this, he took his anger out on an innocent bear who was not to blame. He killed an innocent who'd done no wrong. And for that he was punished by Sitka and the spirits. We became a bear for that reason.

I like this way better than the actual scene in the movie.
