Why Cdbaby is a Bad Choice for Artists
Double-Dipping on Fees: They charge you an upfront fee for every song you upload, but then they also take a percentage (commission) of your earnings. Most other distributors only charge one or the other—either a small monthly fee of a few dollars or an annual fee of less than $20.
Technical Failures: They struggle with the technical side of things, like properly linking your music to your Official Artist Channel (OAC) on YouTube, which can mess up your branding.
Zero Support on Social Media: If someone uses your music on TikTok without permission, they won't help you file claims or collect the money you're owed.
"Hostage" Tactics: The biggest red flag is that when you try to leave their service, they may ban your account and keep your unpaid royalties—essentially "seizing" your money illegally.
Their customer service is non-existent. When things go wrong, they stop responding and ignore all complaints, leaving you with no way to resolve issues.

Do not release your music through cdbaby, they lost my 8ben form and payment method and all my money got confiscated from cdbaby by State of New Jersey . I now need a notary lawyer to get my money back. CD baby cannot be trusted with your money.

It won’t support 24 bit uploads or Apple Digital Masters. That’s what made me decide against them… I was about to bring all my music over from another distributor.

@TopflightboiClunky interface? Big deal! CDBaby is so good, I can't believe the prices that people are willing to pay with subscription distribution. Long term it's an absolute no-brainer. 9% commission? We're musicians; we don't make any money, anyway! We do it because we love it & want to get our music OUT THERE. @jimmymarin7827DO NOT use CD Baby. I have an account for over 10 years and it was ok, but now I'm trying just to login and their system is off. I sent many tickets to human assist but I get a standard response after a month, that my problem has probably solved on its own. They're mocking me.
@SundayHatsBandCD Baby is one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. There is no real artist support. My original song release was a disaster. They messed up my artist ID in YouTube Music, in Spotify and in Apple music. My song shows up in websites listed under different artistst?? I have sent several tickets and 2 months later... I got an automated email apologizing because they had not been able to take care of anything but they were assuming things resolved themselves and were going to close the tickets. First and last. I will NEVER use CD Baby and I'll see a way to re-relase my song through another publisher.

Incredible, this artist name is not new!!!!!! I have published music for it through other distributors. Moreover, I also have a dedicated artist account on apple.
How do we get a hold of a human being at CD Baby for album discrepancies?

The Bings new album, "Power Pop Planet" has gone viral worldwide - but music critics, radio shows, and podcasts are complaining they can't download & play our songs because of CD Baby. I can't even share our songs on my Facebook page. CD Baby has become nothing but a Big Headache, Baby!
@AmazingColorizingCanadian here. CD Baby sends me something called a 1042-S form that looks like I'm supposed to fill out. Problem is I don't know what its for, I don't know how to fill it out, l'm not being paid to fill it out and, so, I won't be filling it out. The internet is not on American soil and Cyberspace does not belong to the USA. CD Baby needs to pay canadian artists in Canadian funds and stop sending canadian artists these forms. They even assigned me a foreigners tax receipt number which I difn't ssk for and do not want. When I do my taxes, I provide my tax preparer with the amount of money I made from song sales and I pay whatever canadian taxes I need on income earned.
@wheezermacdonald2789CDBaby doesn’t release music to your artists page in your upcoming music section which enables you to pitch to the Spotify editors. And they sometimes don’t release your music on set dates. Also, there is no real customer service support
