I think Disney should just use male characters whenever they want to make a film with an adorkable character because I actually do find them hilarious, and the male characters wouldn't be controversial.

Does Eep Crood from the Dawn of the Croods spin off series (not the movie version) fit this adorkable character type?

It makes sense for rapunzel to be quirky because she hadn’t met another person or even stepped outside of her home for the first eighteen years of her life. So of course she’s awkward and struggles with social interactions. Anna was also locked away most of her life so being overexcited and romantically naive makes sense for her. The problem with most modern quirky female characters is that they have no reason to be. You can’t just make all your characters awkward because it worked in the past, it has to make sense for the character. It’s annoying that Disney keeps using this stereotype for female characters when it doesn’t fit the narrative, especially wish. Asha just comes across as cringy because there is no reason for her to be the quirky girl and it adds nothing to the narrative. It’s just annoying at this point. Can we please have a Disney female character with a different personality. They don’t have to be perfect. I’m suggesting someone like Jane or Eilonwy from the black cauldron. Flawed but kind and still a girl boss. It’d be nice to see some originality again.

I hate that stereotype ,i mean, why everyone need the same personality? Is that all there is to it? It’s a somewhat cringey attempt to make the child feel unique and relate to the character, but it doesn't really work that way. Like, that girl in Hexed gets ostracized simply for being "different"—it’s like those clichés where a boy gets bullied just because he wears glasses.

I think Vanellope can get a pass. Not only is she a child from a video game revolving around candy and racing, her “adorkable” personality isn’t necessarily framed in an excessively glorified light like it was for Moana or Mirabelle. She made Wreck-It Ralph very irritated as a direct reaction to her behavior and it wasn’t just because he had anger issues. Sometimes, her energy and talkativeness were seen as a negative trait that was purposefully pointed out by another character in the movie. HOWEVER, it has been a really long time since I’ve watched the movie and I have forgotten some scenes, so please do keep that in mind because I could be wrong about what I just said.

I was 12 when Rapunzel was released. I didn't like her at all and my opinion still hasn't changed.
Tastes differ but this type of protagonist is not for me. However what's interesting, I adore Sleeping beauty, Snow white, Beauty and the Beast.

I always find the "it's meant for kids" argument so hilariously stupid. It's made for kids, and who makes it ? Who's brainstorming about the characters, the writing, the artstyle ? That's right, ADULTS.
What is "it's made for kids" even supposed to mean ? Like we should let kids run themselves and not make anything for them because we're adults ?

Old Disney movies actually had lessons sprinkled in like.. be careful who you trust or something bad could happen, now it's like "oh you're wandering around in a crime infested area and stumble upon a group of thieves and killers?.. all good!! They're gonna help you out, be your bestest fwiends, nothing to worry about here" nothing to learn.

i hated Mirabel so much. shes the protagonist, yet shes constantly pulling you out of the movie, and yes, shes annoying as hell! When I watched it in Spanish, however, she was a lot more relatable. its the voice actresses and diaologue directing. its ALL the same. Im just pissed, but honestly, i think this is what happens when those "im so different and quirky and weird" tumblr girls are now in the art department of Disney. can we have a princess that's sincere again?

Rapunzel I think had good reasons to be portrayed as socially awkward - she was confined to the tower and only interacted with Mother Gothel. Other princesses, no matter how sheltered, had servants and guards etc.

So yes, it makes no sense for everyone else: Nordic princess, Polynesian islander, South American and Southeast Asian villagers, to all act the same.

The adorkable trait is becoming so unfunny and frustrating to watch, and it doesn’t mean a character can’t be witty or charming but it sucks we don’t see these types of female protagonists much anymore, different personalities are needed! Its not relatable just lazy writing imo

I genuinely despised encanto because of mirabel, the plot genuinly had a lot of potential but they made mirabel SO DORKY it genuinly annoyed me.. i couldn't even finish the movie tbh..

I personally believe that the source of the "adorkable" problem stems from the fact that people believe that all characters must have flaws or else they are "Mary Sues (or Gary Stu)." The older Disney princesses received backlash because they were too perfect, like Cinderella, Jasmine, Esmeralda, and Belle. So this puts pressures on writing female characters, whether making them into girl boss jerks, or adorkable. They give women flaws, but then don't know what to do with those flaws. And because creating new characters takes time and energy to write, they take the ways route and write what has worked before, going with the same personalities. I feel that the source of the adorkable problem is the critiques, but feel free to disagree with me.

I've been wondering why modern Disney feels so flat and boring compared to the older Disney films I grew up with... Obviously those don't go without criticism, but the characters in them are so dynamic compared to what we see in new Disney

I think the issue is the newer princesses are harder to take seriously as an audience. The older princesses even when they are being a flawed person can be taken seriously.

I dont think Disney is unable to trust that we're more complicated than we are. I think they just know this will work to sell and they frankly don't care if it's quality or not because at the end of the day, they made profits and IP to milk more profits and merch. I really think we're giving too much credit to a company that may have once cared about quality but like every other company that grows has become greedy and is just worried about profit.

Regarding the "Is this what all teens are like?" question:
God no. I did tertiary schooling in my mid 20s and I can tell you these 18 to 19 year olds MAKE FUN of Adorkable characters and "wait what?" dialogue all the time.
When we come up with insufferable bit characters a good third of the time it's "Erm, he's right behind me isn't he?" type characters
I feel like Huntrix, Puss In Boots Last Wish, and Spiderverse hit the streets like crack for family/kid audiences cause they're specifically anything but adorkable. It's like a breath of fresh air amongst the evermore stale musk of Disney slop.

i agree but not in the case of Judy and Wannelope, the first is not as quirkey, and also not naive, just tries to handle everything and with a positive attitude "making the World a better place"

and Wannelope is angessive sometimes, hard to explain but i never felt that she is like the others, otherwise i agree (also when i saw the trailer of Wish and Raya for a time i literally thought that THESE ARE THE SAME MOVIE)
