If we were young

But this is done

The imagery this song invokes hits me right to my soul, just like I carry my first true love with me and him carrying me with him 30 years later. We were only together 1 year but when your 16-17 those memories are concrete and easily play like a reel in my head. We joke now that.. "We NEVER broke up... so we are still together." Oh.. how we both wish we could go back 😢 "If we were young, but this is done" Lifetime love with a strong soul tie. ❤❤

First off, I want to say I totally dig Joe, his whole band and his collaborators, on putting out such amazing music! I dig everything they are doing that feels nostalgically unique. This post is made with appreciation, respect and admiration. I admit, I am late to the game in discovering Djo but I am so glad I did. This song, in particular, is very special and unique to me for several reasons. I will try to keep this as "clean" as I possibly can. Aside from most of the lyrics, which are fantastic, the feel of this song is about foreplay for me. Yes, I do mean that foreplay. Most of it comes from Joe's harmonizing certain words and phrases and how the music fills in the gaps and holes to make it feel that way to me. His voice starts off in a low, soft pitch, as he sets the scene, as in the beginning of what's to come. Then the music, as well as his voice, pick up the pace. The first time you hear Joe sing "I wish I can delete ya" is very soft in pitch, to "tease" what is to come. When he finally goes up in pitch on the last "ya," it is as if it is to further along the foreplay in however he/you want. Then, everything is brought down to a lower pitch to tease more in the second "act" of the song, as foreplay is a back and forth of whatever you want it to be in the moment or mood. Coming out of the second "act" of the song (using "act" for a lack of a better word) his voice, for the most part, is louder and the music starts to gain momentum as foreplay typically, and hopefully, gains momentum. Then, his voice and the music go into a somewhat "climatic" sound level when he begins "the how he is built different" lyrics, progressing the foreplay to its, hopefully, wanted intent. Then, his voice and music are brought down in tone a little bit, until it builds back up (hopefully for a second "round") and then, the song, is "done," literally. While I totally love the album version, I am basing my statements on the live performances, specifically the ACL festival clip on YouTube. This is just one of my interpretations of this song and I just felt the need to express it. Again, this post was made with the upmost respect and admiration. I look forward to what's to come from Djo and I hope anyone who reads this is well and takes care.
