@MachiavellisThePrinceI was lucky enough to be in a a day long workshop with Dreyfus and he felt that the reason that JAWS worked so well was because the animatronic shark refused to work so Spielberg had to find creative ways around it - which was so much more spooky al la Hitchcock. Robert Shaw loathed Dreyfus at first and tested him every day. The breakthrough came when they discovered they had a mutual love of Shakespeare. Shaw started to quote Shakespeare and the whole set fell silent - which never happens normally - Dreyfus said that he was spellbinding.
