When it comes to the death of a member of the public killed by police either in custody or during their arrest I don’t think it’s unreasonable to insist that the police officer should be completely transparent with their testimony. They should also engage with the investigation process fully and completely openly. They should not refuse to answer interviews questions or give ‘no comment’ answers. Most importantly they should be completely honest and not lie and if it transpires that they have lied they should be at least be convicted for perjury because a police officer is supposed to be the apotheosis of morality, legality and good conduct. That is how a police officer has the right to expect the same of all of us without being a hypocrite. They lose all their assumed integrity if it is revealed they have lied to avoid the truth from coming to light. I’m not saying he/she has to be Jesus(like) but he/she shouldn’t be shady either. Is that too much to ask.
