Pro tip: Ice cream in Lisbon is almost as good as in Italy. We also love it way to much. (There was a point in my life where there where 4 ice cream shops 500 m from my house). The reason that it is that good it's because the icecream shops are mostly run by either italian descendants, or by people that lived in Italy a long time. I would recomend going to Conchanata and orderin a conchanata, it is one of the best things on the planet (it is kind of far from everything though)
It is my first time visiting LISBON, PORTUGAL - I am spending 48 hours here to find the best food and the best things to do in Lisbon to see what is actually worth the money. We start with the famous pastel de nata at Manteigaria before comparing them to the original recipe at Pasteis de Belém. Portuguese food is simple, but delicious, so next, I also search for the most authentic local Lisbon food. I try some incredible piri-piri chicken, and grab a classic bifana pork sandwich from Bifana Do Alfonso. Later, I explored the historic streets of Alfama, and soaked up the views from the city's best miradouros at sunset. Lisbon was not what I expected at all, and I can’t wait to take you along for the full experience. Also; I worked in the Oceanarium all the way back in 2005. Most beautiful place in Lisbon as far as I'm concerned.

Also - only have a day and a half in Lisbon and the hardest decision is whether to go out of our way to get that ridiculously good looking chicken or the find the Bifana sandwich. WIll be travelling with a picky teen so we will need to stop at TimeOut the first day to at least give her many options for dinner. Would much rather find a nice restaurant, but this is the world we live in.

I just got back from Portugal and want to add the following:
Portugal is COLD in the Spring (WAY colder than the US). It can get warm during the day but the second the clouds come in (which they always do), the temperature feels like it drops 20 degrees. I had to wear multiple layers of clothes at all times, including at night to bed.
Like most western European countries (ESPECIALLY the UK), Portugal has been overrun by the typical non desirable immigrants from Pakistan, India, Africa, and particularly Bangladesh. Unfortunately 99% of the Bolt drivers (European Uber) are NOT Portuguese and almost all of the stores, restaurants, etc. are run by these people.
I hadn't been to Europe since the immigrant invasion and I have to say, I will not be back any time soon because of this. When I go to a country I want to experience the culture and people of that country. It's really sad and shocking to see all of these wonderful countries and cultures being overtaken by non native people.

@jstrigFirst thing that catches people off guard in Lisbon: the hills. The city looks flat on a map but Alfama and Bairro Alto will drain your legs fast if you wear the wrong shoes. Comfortable walking shoes, no exceptions. Also worth knowing: tram 28 is genuinely useful but it's also packed with pickpockets. For sunset, skip the obvious viewpoints and head down to Cais do Sodré to look across the Tagus. That view doesn't show up in most guides and it's one of the best in the city.

@paulbrough7122One thing first-timers consistently miss: the miradouros (viewpoints) are totally different experiences depending on what time you go. Before 9am they're quiet and genuinely beautiful. After 11am they're wall-to-wall tourists. The #28 tram is the same — iconic but crowded. If you want the atmosphere without the crowd, get up early. Also: if a menu in Alfama has no English and the price list is handwritten, go in. That's usually where the actual Lisboetas eat.

@danettelipten9674I totally agree with you regarding Nando’s and the real Portuguese piri piri chicken. However, back in the UK there’s a piri piri chicken restaurant in Wood Green, London. It is called Franguitos. Believe me you won’t be disappointed as it tastes just like the one you ate in Lisbon.
@mariomota45I think Sem Rival was started by a family member of the original Ginjinha pkace. We took a food tour when we were in Lisbon a couple years ago.

@acaguerraPastéis de Belém are the original. They could only be pastéis de Belém in Belén. Any where else in the world or portugal they are called pastéis de Nata. The original one were only made with egg yolk & cream … Now a day the recipe various some places make it with whole egg or no egg at all🤯 they used corn starch or flour and insted of cream they use milk or water
The old days they didnt used butter like cattle milk butter “ we’re not French they used butter on a lot of stufff “ we used manteiga de porco or olive oil 🎉 the real olive oil had a buttery whitish particles the bottom, which is the best part of olive oil and that what was used to make the dough part “ more like filo dough from Greece ( flour and water ) you stretch the dough on a table like a bedsheet and just roll it up😊
Note that in the north capital, "Porto", your BICA is called "Cimbalino". Why?
The first coffee machines brand in Porto (around 1950), was, "Cimbali ". People start using the machine brand name with the Portuguese suffix :)
About Pasteis de Nata: do not eat more than 24 in a day,... I tried!!! lets say that warm custard can upset your gut.
