Germany's LYNX Is About to See Combat for the First Time in Ukraine

Video Overview & Insights

Germany's most advanced infantry fighting vehicle, Lynx, is about to see combat for the first time in Ukraine. And the five vehicles arriving now are only the opening move, a pipeline of up to 200 is expected by 2028, alongside Rheinmetall's expanding industrial footprint inside Ukraine that already services Leopard tanks, Marders, and air defense systems, and eventually aims to assemble Lynx hulls on Ukrainian soil.

In this video: what the Lynx KF41 actually is and why it's a generational step beyond the Soviet IFVs Ukraine has been fighting in, what Ukrainian crews told Rheinmetall that changed the production configuration, why Romania's €2.6 billion order matters for Ukraine's industrial ambitions, the real threats the Lynx faces in a drone-saturated battlefield, and what it means that Ukraine is building a defense industrial base while the war is still happening.

I make a joke in the video that I talk about Rheinmetall so much on my channel, they better start sending me a check in the mail. Just to be clear, I receive no compensation from any defense contractors mentioned in any of my videos.

Greetings from Hungary! Glory to Ukraine! 💙💛

Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the heroes. Crimea is Ukraine.

There is a parallel to ba made with the Roshell Senator. Ukraine got some prototype / early production models, made comments and got personalized solutions and modifications based on those comments.

Well, the Lynx will show us whether it still makes sense to send tanks onto a drone-dominated battlefield, or whether their time is finally over. If it turns out they are obsolete, however, I fear that Western strategists lack the foresight to part ways with their beloved tanks and will continue to cling to them.

Can it detect and shoot down drones, everything else is whatever..

Even Belgian subscribers with knowledge of the German language, most dogs and cats, random donkeys, bats too I heard and surprisingly enough jumping spiders as well as no surprise there Germanic AI applications. Furthermore we brace ourselves for the surge of depressions and acts of despair among writers, poets, translators and educational staff. That about covers it.

Timestamp 00:11 to 00:15 - FYI - Actually the Lynx lost in Australia. It was a finalist in the Land 400 competition against the South Korean Hanwha Redback, and lost to the Redback. Australia actually bought the Redback IFV as the AS21. It will be produced in Australia, and the 1st Redback is expected to be delivered in 2027.

Hello, Wes from us down under. Enjoy your show and sense of humour that helps it from being to techno stiff. I was in our reserve forces and can see just how much things have changed with todays tech. Ukraine kicks butt, slava Ukraine.

If there was generally an "tournament" of different tank's.
Which tanks were part of the set tournament...because, I just wanna know if...the Australian redback tank was considered, or not.

🇦🇺🇺🇦Just asking, because I want to if Australian government money is going into the right place or not. Like Yah, us Aussie's do the...Lynx tank as well. Yet, the Australian labour party says they want to create more Australian own technology. Like, if the Lynx won fairly against the redback tank in actual combat. Congregation, on Germany. I'm no saw loser.😎 With that said...if the Redback tank didn't get battle field tested, long side it. Well, Australian-Ukraine should get on it.🇺🇦🇦🇺

You've probably lost as many German viewers, for your danke, as you have lost Australians from your Crikey! That is, basically none. Please keep up the wonderful work that you're doing, Wes. Crikey!

The era of armored vehicles is over. Even unmanned vehicles will no longer stand a chance of survival on the transparent battlefield. They’re essentially death traps. Anti-tank mines, drones, and MANPADS will take care of that.

US stops sending Bradley's. Germany sends a better more modern Lynx. EU is overtaking US equipment

Although I think these vehicles are 'a thing of the past' (especially counting price/benefit), I greatly appreciate the great support from Germany

Thats nice but what they realy need are skyranger going with them to the frontline to shield them.

Australia didn’t order the Lynx. We should have, but we didn’t. Instead, we’ve ordered the South Korean IFV. This means Australia has a German Armin reconnaissance vehicle and a South Korean IFV.
We missed the opportunity to have alignment around uniform tech

It is good to see Germany help a country attached by a genocidal enemy.. now if they only also did that for browner Palestinians we could have concluded they learned the correct lessons of their past

@annebokma4637

Something thats pretty neat about the Lynx is that you can fairly easily replace the turret with a mortar or turn it into a Skyranger to fight off Russian drones with air burst ammo. Ukraine could make their own little modern Gepards locally. I thinks thats pretty neat.

Aand the US President got finessed by Israel into starting a war with Iran whilst the biggest near peer armed conflict since WW2 is raging in Europe. I'm sorry for bringing it up, but it's the fully grown bull elephant perched on a footstool in the middle of the room and it's just blown up again(thanks Bibi).

Hi Wes,
Australia didn’t adopt the Lynx. It went with the Hanwa Redback as our new IFV.

Cheers,

Is there a reason the pew pew on vehicles like this is no longer circular? It looks cool but does that protect the round bit or what?

The Aussie did not take our Lynx.

They took the Redback frim SK.

Hungarian is indeed completely different from all other European languages; Hungarian and Finnish are the outliers in Europe. The peoples from whom the Finns and Hungarians descend arrived in Europe much later due to nomadic migrations; both originated in the Central Asian steppes and are more closely related to Turkic peoples than to those of Europe. The Hungarians, in particular, only took possession of the territory of present-day Hungary during the Middle Ages.

I have talked with one of the officers which were in the development project for the Puma IFV. When i look at the Lynx it looks like the Puma without the "we need to build it by several German companies" aspect of it and lessoned learned by the Puma and the errors the Puma had. Which is good as the Puma is the first Next Gen IFV with lessoned incorperated from Afghanistan and the Lynx is the successor. For example the Lynx is 3 tons heavier then a Puma, because they had to make the Puma lighter for Air Transport but which means that the protection against Heavy Machine Guns on the Sides is only given when the Puma is uparmored to konfiguration C. While the Lynx has it in the Base configuration etc. For most European Armies it makes sense to have the heavier base variant. Or as the Officer said about the Puma: "Leicht rein, tod raus." "Lightly Armored in (Konfiguration A), Dead out". So yes the better Puma with most kinks ironed out.
