Great review brother, for someone new to stacking, are there any apps or websites that show the prices of all or some online companies selling gold and silver? Versus going to each site separately?
@j.p.4541Lenticular...new word for me..thanks for that.
@goldsilverbroke78I like your videos.
They are very helpful and informative π
But about the 20 Francs couns I am not agre.
In the States maybe they are not so popular, but here in Europe they are extremely popular....even more than the Sovereigns.
Eagles, good information here ! FJB ππΊπΊ
@dennisniemier3024At least one state requires tax to be paid on Sovereign minted coins like Eagles, Maple Leafs, Krugerands etc. That tacks on an extra $150-$200 on top of the premium over spot if you're buying a full ounce. That almost forces the stackers in that state to buy bars.
@waitaminute7257I just saw another video where a guy was explaining how to spot fake bars. He showed two that he knew were fake. Then he started showing the audience how the 3 supposedly authentic ones could be tested. And it turned out that two of those were not so sure either. It's a nightmare, I thought I could give bars a try, but I changed my mind. Another guy explained that, like you said, coins are kind of universally known, so as long as they are authentic, everybody knows exactly how much gold there is inside. With bars, there's 26 different companies out there making bars and writing 999 on the package. To verify that, we should make a hell of a number of physical tests, so eventually we just trust them. By the way, the guy in the first video made this test: first he tried with a magnet, and the seemingly authentic bars didn't attract the magnet. Then he put a strong magnet on a scale, he set the scale to zero, and he put the same bars close to the magnet: the weight started going slightly negative :)))) very smart, isn't it? ....so, there are traces of other metals... why? how much? who knows... while with a sovereign everybody knows what's going on there.
@LMUstackerI just ordered 2 gold dragon bars from Costco $2,000 each (Pampa)
@jorgenunez4406Donβt trust bars myself for gold, only Government minted coins with an anti counterfeiting device incorporated into the coin.
@daviddavey1727Is the coin hype a USA thing?? Why would a coin be more liquid than a bar minted by a nationally recognised and properly recognised as an ivestmemt item minter like e.g Perth Mint?
Gold buyers here will not turn away your gold ever, bu they just give you spot price irrespective of how "rare" they are which means the premiums you pay for coins is just a loss before you even start. I dont fancy bartering with a coin buyer just to recoup my sunk cost of the coin premium Ive already paid and we dont have the British thing where certain coins are completely CGT free.
So basically, theres no benefit to buying coins from what I see and I dont consider "beauty" and "collectability" factors that are worth me losing money right from the get go in my market.
I prefer to stack US Gold coins first. I also collect other gold coins and bars π
@silverpatriotLoveGodLoveManCoins with historical significance should be on peoples list to collect - such as the Sovereign. I have started on a crusade to collect all available british sovereigns. Yes they command an absolute fortune in premiums, but because of their significance, as time goes on, they hold value, and increase quite significantly over time. Take the 2022 full sovereign in rememberenace of Queen Elizabeth II, or the Queen Elzabeth II Platinum Jubilee sovereign - Here in New Zealand, they command upwards of NZD$7500, and have incredible scarcity. Scaricity equals exclusivity equals high price points immediately AND on to the future.
On bars and coins, a bullion dealer here in NZ, whom i deal with, has exclusive rights to the Perth mint, so im guaranteed genuine items. They (the afformentioned dealer) also has bars stamped with their own branding, plus the usual authentication marks, and come in some pretty cool designs. Such as the 1kg Silver Stag, in both cast, and minted forms.
Anything but those coppery color items β¦ππΏβ’οΈ
@jamesonealbrown7227I'm personally more in favore of gold coins. However, I do have several gold bars.
Cheers πΎ πΎ Sal.
Hi Sal, great vid... would you consider pre-33 US coins above soverign coins or bars in regards to collecting/stacking gold?
@ArmisticeDay1918Great information Sal. I agree, gold is gold and education is key π
@zukiplayI prefer to keep my gold in coins just seem to be more liquid silver I donβt really care I just buy what I like and what is cheap thanks sal
@savagestackerDepends where you live in the uk you would be daft buying gold bars or silver in general as you are taxed when buying and selling , which isnt the case with local gold coins. You tend to have higher liquidity and pay less premium on local coins so choices is all location based .
@seminumismaticguy8575To make a sound decision, one must ask WHY they stack gold.
1) If it is to flip, then neither is a great option. ETFs or Sprott's trusts are better.
2)If it is for financial hedging in a turbulent but civil society, then bars are fine and less expensive than a kg (or more) of coins. Very rich people have gold kg bars in Switzerland, London, Singapore, and New York vaults.
3) If there is a financial collapse like Venezuela, Zimbabwe, or Lebanon. Gold is gold is gold. Example and as per my Vz friend, the cambios in Venezuela have inexpensive and reliable ways to verify gold such as a gravity test, which is not that difficult to construct, a rare earth magnet (cheap), digital or manual scale (accurate and cheap), and a ping test assessed with a cell phone ap (pretty much free). All these tests can be done for under $40 without using expensive methods such as an XRF machine or acid tests. If the four tests work out: mag test, ping test, weight test, and homemade gravity test on your gold wafer/ bar, then the probabilities are very low of having fake gold. As stated gold is gold. In a Venezuela-type example, you get no extra for an American Eagle or a Pamp Suisse bar. Once the cambio determines it is gold and the wt/purity, you get one rate. So, under these circumstances, nobody gets paid more for high premium gold, and liquidity is not ruled by a stamp. In Vz, all gold is considered fake until proven otherwise.
4) if there is a complete collapse like people fleeing war and there is complete chaos, then having a recognized sovereign coin is likely the best for its recognizability.
Because of these four points, I have shifted toward 20 francs and bars the last while
Bars are cool because you melt them and make 24k jewelry and end up wearing your gold.
@theadirondackstackerThee bars should have a hole drilled into the bars somehow where you can put a probe into it to verify!?
@Donaldperson7Pearth mint must have serial numbers and same Geiger security features!
@Donaldperson7I was offered spot for my 1/4 oz eagle coins. I'd say bars.
@WarnMilotaI like the Canadian or Australia gold NUGGETS coins! Beautiful!
@Donaldperson7I hope the USA tresury department starts investigating where all these fake coins are coming from and jail these people and lock them up! Hopefully we get all the people from oversees! That imports them knowing that itβs fake !
@Donaldperson7Great video, very informative. I have both, bars and coins. Itβs not that I prefer one over the other, I try to get the most weight I can for the money I walk into my LCS with.
But at the same time Iβm trying to fill an empty tube of 1/10oz gold eagles.
btw, thatβs the first time Iβve ever seen a gold round in a essay card. π
I think if you had to quickly liquify your gold, coins would appeal to a broader base of purchasers for all the reasons you mentioned. I prefer coins vs bars as well, just be sure to purchase whichever you choose from a reputable dealer. Great video.
@HippieblsI like rounds to use ping testing
@musclesmouseCheryl Atonal is a homeless, convicted felon (canine buggery & sexual abuse of a hamster) who poops on the sidewalks of Bunghole Notch, Maine.
@SlapdatHughJassGood Video Sal
@stevec7081Bars
@robertpersiani5849Good show, Sal. π This video gave me an idea... I'd still stack coins regularly, but I'm also a novice collector and I think a few different bars would be great to collect. That RCM gold bar looks great. Thanks for that closeup. π€©
@dukenukemani07If Iβm going to spend $2000 on gold Iβd rather spend an extra $50 and get a coin. On silver, bars are fine on 1 oz as itβs only a $25 purchase.
@weststephan5253The 1/4 oz Britannia fits nicely in a nickel holder, that's all I know.
@jheichelbechAsahi is a nice bar. I love all the ways it comes.
@Two-brothers-stackingCoins because no VAT on gold investment coins in EU (yet)
@ksztyrixπ US Mint! How about a Gold Bar!! US Mint needs real stackers in Charge! Shameful!
@RedKrawlerI like bars, but because it's frowned upon taking it out of the assay packaging, I'd rather stack coins because of storage space.
@Shiny_McStackinβI loveβ¦β¦..Goooold!β β Goldmember
@electricninja2122I know billionaires like bars BIG bars but for me is better fractional because is what i can afford thanks Sal ππ»πͺπ»
@ericson5412I Have Both, I just Love Gold in All its Shapes & forms, as long as it's worth it. π»π»ππ€
@karryterran9409I don't own any bars bigger than a gram that I won. However there's a 1 OZ bar I've been planning to purchase once I stack enough fiat for it. I've always been a coin guy!
@richardmetcalf2346A person wonβt know which is βbetterβ until he tries to sell them.
Only then will he learn about demand and liquidity.
I don't think I have a single gold bar, only coins. Too many fake gold bars out there for my liking. They even fake the packaging to make them look authentic. My lcs owner would not accept any packaged bar without cutting it out to confirm authenticity.
