GR Anime Review: The Seven Deadly Sins

A Glass Reflection Anime Review of The Seven Deadly Sins

Remember when glass Reflection could actually sound like he enjoyed anime without it not being slightly offensive if he did enjoy anime?

Additional Footage used in Review:

To start with, I was impressed by your acting, the mimics, gestures etc. It was a joy to watch, because it looked so professional while also being entertaining.
As for the show, I think I'll give it a try. I prefer more serious plots, but the unique approach of fanservice has me intrigued. How that one girl was okay with his actions while the other even got jealous xD
The low stakes story could be an issue, yes. Along with the giant and tiny pig. They look kind of immersion breaking, though I'm sure there's a good reason for them to be there.
(Maybe as Emergency Food)

Final Verdict music:

Honestly, I was super disappointed. The show lacks depth and any sense of true stakes.

Okay I watch a lot of effed up anime but I would never recommend a series to an anime noob with serial sexual assault. Ease people in to that crap man.

I feel like a lot of the critizism you have got resolved with the later seasons, not all of it, but quite a lot

Really enjoyed the first season. But got seriously bored from season 2 on. It turned into a slog to get to the end.

Season 1 review
1- 7 deadly sins doesnt trick you, it immediately shows you the tone it is going for, nonsensical and impossible to take serious, even on the later episodes.
2- Full of cliché characters and situations.
3- Mostly uninteresting characters, both heroes and villains. Everyone has a sad backstory, told in flashback pieces or episodes. That is normal but the execution is everything.
4- Intro and outro songs not great.
5- very well animated fights but the fights themselves lack stakes
6- meliodas is op and doesnt use his special trait at a crucial moment, leading to a forced and nonsensical finale.

How does anyone get past the first 5 minutes? As soon as the girl shows up all whiney and awful the whole thing becomes unwatchable.

Seven deadly sins is boring 😐😑

Then: 2 seasons now: 5 seasons

I've tried to get into this at least once per year since this review came out, but I can never get past that initial one-two double-whammy of the annoying pig undermining all the tension + Meliodas looking like a borderline rapist with no consequences. It's especially painful because I've seen some really beautiful fights coming from the show in out-of-context clips, but I can't enjoy it just because of a few irrelevant little additions that are like kryptonite to me.

All your problems with Elizabeth ''liking'' it, Elizabeth being useless (she is not, actually op), Meliodas trying to act human (haha he is not) are explained up to season 4. That actually makes the series very good!

@Valisimal
@

4 years later...now you know why Meliodas is that OP! :D

I think the weird thing about this show, and I paused a little bit after Gowther's introduction, is that I don't think there's an audience identification character. bizarrely, I think the closest thing to that is Hawk, who often says what the audience might be thinking, and is the one who reprimands Meliodas for being a perv. but neither Elizabeth nor Meliodas are particularly relatable. they function as protagonists, but, I dunno, Elizabeth is too passive and powerless (in the opening set of episodes, I've heard that changes but that's later), and Meliodas is a mystery box in a chill, almost detached package. I wouldn't call him a sociopath, but a lot of how he behaves feels like a put-on, and where I got to it definitely seemed like that was intentional, like he puts up a front, an entire constructed persona, as a result of past trauma/to conceal his TRUE IDENTITY as some kind of demon lord.
and then Diane is too wacky to identify with. but the show really picks up with Ban and King, who feel relatable because their insane backstories are grounded in real emotion, and centered around the same person they both loved (and for both of their sakes you hope long term they somehow resurrect her). and it ties them together and gives them a spicy dynamic.
also Meliodas does get more interesting once you realize his persona is absolute bullshit.

I bet this video was made when only season 1 was around cuz the rest gets worse

Manga spoiler:

When we see Meliodas for the first time he is around 3000 in power level. When he fights escanor He is at two hundred thousand. When he gets all the commandments He is estemated to be around 1500 000!!! The powerscaling in this show is just bonkers

@eliashornwall8546
@

watch the rest of the anime and then make another video

@johnstrangeman3296

Ban is my favorite.....but I just do not like Elaine.

@GenAqua
@

Watching this in 2021, where new manga sequal is announced and probably another 200 episodes to come with it; not as near as over. True Naruto get me back to life, style of creating the series i like it.

@misterfister7714

I kept trying to get further in this show, but I just can't get past the main character committing serial sexual violence and it all being played off so casually with a not-so-subtle undertone of "It's okay she secretly likes it." It's an awful and totally played out form of "humor", and I wish shounens would just give it up already.

@TheRJB0
@

It should have ended with season one. Then it would have been good.

@Wtdtd

"Meliodas is OP."
Escanor: Who decided that?

@Meganayak9
@

When he starts talking about meliodas's reason for doing what he's doing in the show, is because Elizabeth asks him to and she kind of favors his ex that died???..lol have you seen the show? Because if you have, you'll know that his "ex that died" is Elizabeth just reincarnations. there's few other things that he talks about when it comes to this show that makes me feel like he isn't watch too much of it or paid attention to it too much. It's better and deeper with story than what he lets on.

@joefreeman1142

In the 3rd season the villains are as powerful as meliodis

@yeatus0121

In later seasons, most if not all your problems are gone

I'm on ep 18 and I'm enjoying the comedy and the action, the story seems good I dislile the fan service sometimes feels like it's too much 😐 I'm enjoying the 1st season

Netflix licenses shows and then acts like they made it themselves. Netflix can go to hell.

@andreworders7305

A1 looks good...when they actually try

@andreworders7305

If you name your heroes “Sins” no wonder they get pinned as villains

@andreworders7305
@

I’m not big on Shounen-action, and thus probably won’t watch this, but the line work looks really nice here. It can go pretty thin and there are multiple widths of line at a time.

@andreworders7305

2:35 Arkada is sick of every European Kingdom being called Brittania

@andreworders7305
@

Im fine with Meliodis being insanely op because it’s hinted throughout the show that he is different from all the others. And in the end it all makes sense why he is so powerful. What i don’t like is Escanor’s power. He in my opinion is way to powerful. I know he has an explanation for his powers to but it’s not a very good one in my opinion.

@emilhaugsbakk7281
@

It got waaaaaaayyyy better on the other seasons

@odedgershon1374
@

This is why you need to read the manga or wait for the full adaptation all of his complaints are explained away and make perfect sense in context also yes elizabeth likes it lol

@edwinjusto5739
@

This show sucks. Ima be honest. It might be worse than fairytale

@fhsball22
@

Soooooo, why haven't you done more reviews on the other series? Some of the "bad" things, at least in my opinion are just setups for the bigger picture later down the line.

@void6970
@

U think hes op,escanor??

@buhmperr3695
@

The first episode made me want to destroy anime for ever. Then I remembered some actual good anime and simply chose to walk Way from this one.

@gawayne1374
@

Meliodas is super OP, but the show makes it work. The intent here isn't to have a big bad villain that they all can't kill (Mostly), but to just enjoy the journey of Melodias and his crew.

@rirdan9342
@

The series wouldn’t have happened if sir mildios and Elizabeth didn’t have a thing for each other. (I’m talking about season 4) One thing that really goes over my head: if these two powerful Gods are so powerful? Why didn’t they just cut out their existence man? Like tf

@Princess-dv7it
@

Decent show, but Meliodas"s quirk of abusing that girl needs to stop. Its not even funny, just makes me uncomfortable.

@FanksCast
@

Honestly I had the exact opposite problem with the first season. It always feels like meliodas is losing whether it be on purpose or not. I really cant think of a single fight the he just outright won besides the one against ban in the tournament arc. He always seemed to be needing help. That said I think that once he gets his actual power back in the second season he really lives up to what the characters were always saying about him and stuff
