Love the Village!!! Some opinions from a South Florida teacher who’s been there dozens of times…

John’s Pizza is better than Joe’s. The falafel is awesome at the shop mentioned. The Comedy Cellar was a great place to spend an evening. Marie’s Crisis Center is a great place to sing show tunes with all of your new friends. One place left out- The Duplex. They have a piano and a singing bartender mixing your drinks. Hoping to visit again soon!

I graduated from NYU in 1980, when it was reasonable priced and didn’t take up the whole neighborhood ! I graduated .in Washington Square Park. Different neighborhood in 1980. Thank you for the tour and information

A couple more tips. That double townhouse where Alcot was writing Little Women was her uncles and in the basement under the Minetta Tavern two brothers started Readers Digest. No one was ever hung from that tree in Washington Sq. Park, Brits did build scaffolds where in 1741 after a slave rebellion they hung 18 slaves and two white women and men for helping slaves. Did I forget the 13 burned to death at the stake. If you were alive in '61 you could have been Billy clubbed with the rest of us after they tried to stop music in the park. Cafe Society was the first integrated club in N.Y. and Billy Holliday started her career long before. Mrs. Roosevelt while our first delegate to U.N. was a patron. Sheridan Square named for who, that said what, "the only good Indian I've ever met was a dead Indian. Across 7th Ave was Gayety theater where Martha Graham started her career in dance. Sinclair Lewis had a play produced there as well. Check out my Marc's Village Walk for accurate history by one who has lived it. Not a busine$$, at my age I'll only give it to my landlord & doctors anyway.

Nice you got away filming in Washington Sq. Muse where they forbid photography. Too bad you didn't mention the three oldest buildings on MacDougal where Eva Kotchever managed Eve's Hangout then being deported for self-publishing "Lesbian Love". This was after she had run the Black Rabit. Then there's Alexander Calder who sculpted Washington in Peace at arch designed by Stamford White who also did Judson Memorial church. Theres Dylan's first apartment on W. 4th St. but on the same block of more import is the greatest little folk music and instrument shop in this city the Music Inn. But what do I know. I only moved to the Village in February . . of 1946 from the maternity ward of Beth Israel. Talk about what you have known, not what you think you know.

I lived on Jones street 1967 and went to the catholic school there. It was amazing.

Why do you tell a story of the African Americans who owned Washington Square in parts of Soho in the village, and the fact that if the British just stole the land from the African-American owners!! That would be a very interesting story up until the time of large-scale immigration and the acquisition of a lot of that property buy what now is New York University.

Washington Square Park was a cemetery for the Spanish flu epidemic. Early 1900s. Yes, the place is haunted. The ghosts are friendly if you play music.

Thanks for the tour. Lot's of music clubs in the Village - Blue Note, Red Lion, Bitter End, Village Vanguard. You mentioned a few but a music video would be great.

Thanks, Tom. As usual you present a lovely video with a great deal of information regarding the areas you visit. I have always wanted to go to Greenwich Village but haven't made it yet. I am originally from San Francisco but have lived in the UK for 40 years. You have a great sense of humor and an original delivery.
