How is BDF a chord if it’s not following the 3-4 or 4-3? A chord is simply skipping a letter within a scale or is it 3-4 or 4-3 or both?

It's so hard to understand, I think you really have to have the right brain to understand this, or learn it when really young!

you explained how they relate but not why they relate

from how i understand it, scales are sets of notes that sound really good together (a sort of blueprint if you will). chords are majors and minors found in that scale when played in a specific order. for example, the c major scale (in this video) has the blueprint of notes that will sound good together (C-D-E-F-G-A-B). play anything other than that, then itll sound out of place.

anyway, chords are made by playing the first note (that you want to play within the scale), skip 1, play a note after that, skip 1 again, and play the note after it. for example, you pick C, skip D, pick E, skip F, and pick G. if you play C-E-G together, you made a major note. if you pick D as a starting note to make your chord, it will form a minor (because of the skips and whatnot youve been doing).

to add more clarity to this: in the video, the first chord that was played in the c major scale is 1-3-5 (which is basically C-E-G but i just made it numbers), however, if you played 2-4-6 (D-F-A), you'd make a minor note instead.

u guys might be asking, "why is the chord progression in a specific order of I-ii-iii-IV-V-vi-vii? why can't i just make my own chord progression?" (uppercase numeral means major, lowercase numeral means minor). well if you observe from what ive said earlier, these are naturally formed from the scale itself. this scale (c major scale) produces this specific chord progression itself. and the same goes for any other scale (i think lol)

Okay for all yall who wanna understand what a chord is - these are a group of notes that simply fit into each other perfectly, when played together they have this strong tone - known as a harmonic tone. Now on this video he is just explaining how chords(group of notes) can change from one to another perfectly. Hope this helps.
