The Barclays Premier League, England's (and sometimes hosting a few teams from Wales) top football division. In the 2021/2 season the 17 teams competing are: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton, Burnley, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Leeds United, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Norwich City, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, Watford, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers. In this video I look at how each team got their name, and their nickname, as well as some fun facts about their crests.

Everton are named after the area in Liverpool they originated from ... But they played in The Anfield Football Ground, in the area of Anfield (next to the area of Everton) ... They played there for 12 years, the won The League Championship at Anfield! As they represented The City of Liverpool "then" more people came to watch support them, the owner of the Anfield Football Ground wanted to raise the rent far too high ... so Everton Football Club rented then bought a plot of land on the other side of Stanley Park ... they named the new Football Ground as Goodison Park, using the name of the road next to that plot of land!.
The owner of the Anfield Football Ground set about forming a new Football Team/club called Liverpool Football Club, the rest is history!.
Penge was never changed to be know as Crystal Palace ( yes most people say Crystal Palace as it’s more know due to the club) but Penge is still called Penge and is within the borough of Bromley.
Crystal Palace is its own little area mostly known as the park and some surrounding areas but as I assume many know the grounds for the club is in Selhurst

@TheGarfield0As a Newcastle United fan I have heard this story about west end and east end coming together..Sounds great but it’s wrong. The team we follow today is Newcastle East End 1881. Newcastle West End went under, and players back room staff from that team eventually showed up on Newcastle East End. East end moved from Chillingham Road to the superior St James’ Park. West end fans would go to the games, and support the players but they wouldn’t get behind the name. Players and staff decided in 1892 (which still makes that date important) to change the name to Newcastle United.

The connection makes Palace the oldest league club in existence still playing professional football, and founder members of both the Football Association and FA Cup.

@ChrisW_EssexI’m a Mancunian and a blue. City self marketed as the club for the entire City of Manchester in 1894 and therefore “Citizens” is just another word for “People’s Club”.
I have to pull you up on something you got wrong with Utd. Manchester Central were a completely different club and existed as an amateur side as late as the 1920s.
They faced bankruptcy and applied to join the Football League to turn professional to save themselves. United were struggling at the time, getting low gates and doing poorly (this isn’t my bias as a blue look it up). United asked City to back them in a motion to block Manchester Central as it would divert money, fans, prestige away from the two Manchester clubs, if a 3rd joined the professional football league.
City agreed and United were the successful in blocking it and Central went bust.
There has been a small attempt to resurrect them but it’s only ever got to low level amateur league level.
At one point Central were getting 10,000-15,000 fans a week which was very big at the time.
The Hammers is not from West Ham, its the tools that they used when shipbuilding. Also "Thomas Ironworks" seriously lmao😂
@antonm1834In this season (24/25) it is Nottingham Forest that is the oldest club playing in the Premier League. But in the season this video was released it was Aston Villa (1874) the oldest club.
@mogbabaGoodison Park, the Everton stadium lies in the Walton area of Liverpool. Ironically that is Liverpool FC whose stadium lies in the Everton area of Liverpool.
