lobsters are not immortal. While they don't exhibit typical signs of aging and can live for a long time, they are still susceptible to death from various factors. The myth of lobster immortality stems from their continuous growth and molting process, but this very process also makes them vulnerable to exhaustion, disease, and predation.
Here's why the idea of lobster immortality is a misconception:
Molting:
Lobsters grow by shedding their shells, a process called molting. This requires significant energy, and as they get larger, the energy demand for molting increases.
Exhaustion:
Eventually, the energy needed for molting can exceed the lobster's capacity, leading to death from exhaustion during the molting process.
Other Factors:
Lobsters can also die from diseases, predation, and even from injuries sustained during molting when their new shell is still soft.
No True Immortality:
While some lobsters live for decades, they are not biologically immortal and can still die from various natural causes.
In summary, while lobsters have unique biological characteristics related to growth and molting, they are not immune to death and are not immortal.

I, female 19, am VERY into science, and have new questions everyday. I have been following this channel since Corona, and decided to watch every video from beginning to end. (I do that with a lot of other channels too, so it takes a lot of time).
About a month or two ago, I came across a question in my mind I hadn't thought about before. (Theres a lot in there, and im watching videos to explain every single one of them. But by doing that I find channels like this where I wanna watch every video they have, so it takes time before I get the answers.) Back to the question: How do we get old??? Like I was told cells replicate themselves all the time, and molecules and atoms doesn't get old or gets destroyed without any reason. So I really could not get my head around this one...
But thanks to this video now I can!!! <3
The more I hear about these anti aging sciences the more I picture an awesome horror movie idea; we do it , we create human immortality, but after 2 or 3 hundred years we turn into a blob that secretes caustic chemicals as a result of living too long so basically were all immobilized and screaming in Pain, never able to reproduce and teach our lesson, but doomed to a lifelong hell watching and suffering as other species become intelligent and eventually do the same to themselves until the end of the world .... It'd be cool, any producers out there? Lol

A finite life span is natural, its what we are designed for. To live forever would be the worst curse you could ever inflict on anyone, and the World.

Accordingly his people lived somewhere same amount of years. Adam was 1000 years old when died. People in past used to live longer not shorter. If you refer to higher quality medicine in our days its true but people in past didn’t have that much all types of deceases as we have now so they need less doctors help.

@BjornerokkHonestly, I just don't want to be a wrinkly grey-haired useless woman who can’t remember stuff in my ripe age. If I can get older and be able to sustain my body slowing down aging or even biologically reverse aging to my prime, that is ideal. Obviously, nobody can live forever, but I feel like we can live a lot longer, so why not slow our age rather than age slowing us down? @d4w3rmusic31:30 - Why do we age, why does our body decay? Well, because otherwise evolution wouldn't work. Resources are finite. If we'd last forever, this planet couldn't accommodate our descendants. As a consequence: the planet wouldn't be able to accommodate us, as there would be no room left with all the early life still crawling around. Death, unfortunately, is the only way a species is able to adapt to new circumstances, which in turn is the only way the species is able to survive long term. Or to put it succinctly: short term death is necessary for long term survival.
That said, nothing suggests it's impossible for a species to gain immortality and yet survive through the aeons. It would only require the species to become advanced enough to compensate for what it now lacks from nature. We already do that to an extent: we have airplanes so we can fly, even though nature never provided for wings in our body plan. More relevant to this question: we have medicine to stave off disease and live longer. This is a precursor to even more advanced medicine and technology that has the potential to prolong our lifespans even more.
The greater portion of increased life expectancy came from just two factors: better sanitation, and antibiotics. We've maxed out the first and the second is fading due to over-use of antibiotics leading to highly resistant bacteria. All other factors are negligible. Furthermore, as people become even more indolent and even more obese, life expectancy in the West is actually - for the first time in history outside of war zones - decreasing due to a huge increase in lifestyle-associated diseases. There is thus no reason for optimism regarding any further meaningful extension of the human lifespan. Furthermore, why would we wish to extend life at huge cost when most people simply sleepwalk through it anyway?
@allanlees299Actually, ageing is vastly more complicated than telomere shortening. Yes, immortality of cells is dependent on telomeres not shortening. But there is a huge difference between individual cells and organisms, where cells must grow, proliferate and die in a harmonious fashion. Unlimited cellular replication leads to cancer. Mice, for instance, have much longer telomeres than humana t 50 kilo bases compared to only 7-10 for adult humans, and yet mice live, on average, only 2 years compared to humans who live 40 X longer. In fact, a kew charactersitic of long-lived species are short telomeres. Bowhead whales, for instead, the longest-lived mammals, with a life expectancy of at least 210 years and potentially as much as 270 years, have an average telomere length of 9 kilobases. Hydras are "immortal" because their telomeres never shorten. But, the problem is, when a hydra divides it essentiually "dies" as it becomes two individuals. Or cells also "die" when they divide, as they become two new cells as the parent cell ceases to exist. So there is an issue of semantics here. It depends a lot on your defition of the word "immortality". In complex organisms such as humans, cellular immortality is a bad thing because our cells need to divide in precise cycles, and they must self-destroy when(via apoptosis or necrosis) when they have DNA damage that is too severe to be repaired. Otherwise, cancer.
This video is a dramatic ovrsimplification. In long-lived species such as humans and bowhead whales, telomeres are kept short for cancer-prevention reasons, and the body makes up for that with a alower rate of cellular division, more efficient repair of DNA, and higher levels of antioxidants like catalase and superoxide dismutase to protect the short telomeres from corrosion, as well as stem cell reserves to replace the cells that get killed by out immune systems when their telomeres get too short.
If your telomerase were activated and you experienced no telomere shortening, it would be disastrous. Immortality? No, you would become a huge ball of tumors and die a horrible death. .
My nana lived to 102 years old. Unfortunately, she had dementia for ten years prior to her passing. My grandfather who was a powerfully strong man who was built Ike a brick shithouse, died at 88. He had an incredible life.
