What a surprise that mythicals were terrible in the generations where Game Freak stopped giving as much of a shit about their stories (i.e. gen 6-8) and then had a good one again when they gave us a really solid story like gen 5 had, in gen 9.

I do like that mythicals are generally becoming a lot more accessible, and it's better to have the shiny be the true limited distribution.

Shame the Faraway Island event is only in Emerald; would've been great to have it the Kanto remakes.

14:56 not true in australia when platinum released if you bought the game and showed KMart your copy of Diamond/Pearl they loaded a mystery gift into your Platinum game which had Arceus having Spaces Rend, Roar of Time, Shadow Force & Judgement Day as its moveset. Totally legitimate too, i still have mine. This kinda ruined your first playthru of platinum though bc you were so OP. You also got a choice of 1 box art legendary from the Arceus that was level 1.

I don’t want mythical to die out. I want them to develop a system where their events become active every so often. Even every four years like the World Cup would be better than nothing. Maybe every two years, you get a month long to access the event, hunt your shiny

Anything not to blame GameFreak, huh? It's the execs there that ruined Pokémon. Not poor little Mew. if they kept up the same goals and effort as the first 5 gens, we wouldn't be having this issue.

Something I always hated is the distribution events. Yeah great. Now I do not live in Japan. The USA or Germany. And as a 10 year olds, I can't go there anyway.
How exactly were I supposed to get these events?

Majorly disagree with something.
His argument for mew:
"Mew emerald event good, was japanese exclusive."
"Mew from a Pokeball bad, had to buy it". 28:51
Like, what...? First off, both needed to be paid for. One is international, one was gate-kept. Emerald had an in-game event, S&S/Lets go gave us a POKEBALL controller with a level 1 mew in it. That is literally insanely dope. Its in emerald for the same reason as it was S&S/LG..cause its cool and made some money. The implementation of a pokemon Mystery gift from a pokeball was awesome from a player perspective and a solid marketing move.

There’s really not a great excuse for these unlocked events to not have actual event events and things for the player to do rather than just connect to the Wi-Fi and open a mystery gift or what have you.

They already showed that they knew cool ways to reward the player and have the player go into their game and do something really cool. This should’ve just gotten easier and easier for them to accomplish overtime and they would’ve kept on selling more of their recent games had they done this.

I mean, honestly, as far back as the Nintendo DS when one of the first things you do is set up your Wi-Fi connection, we really can’t just distribute a digital update where people can go and do something really cool now that they couldn’t do before, and expands the story or goes back and gives context to things that happened that were just kind of laid there as potential?

The number of characters in these games that have some nonsensical thing to say to you. It’s so soulless a lot of the time. If the characters aren’t gonna say anything useful, why do they even say anything at all? And then to add insult to injury, there’s no voice acting. So you’re just sitting here reading chat bubbles of nothingness in 2026.

13:30 the hilarious pattern here to me is that, yeah, of course when they made it so that you had to buy these often unappealing sideline games if you wanted to have the legendary event Pokémon in your main title game.

I feel ancient saying this but Pokemon Silver, Gold and Crystal was truly the golden era for Pokemon. I stopped being interested after Crystal, tried Ruby but it wasn't for me. Everything looked too shiny and round. In Yellow, Red, Silver, Gold and Crystal most Pokemon looked cool with sharp edges, these days they look "cutesy" for lack of a better word. You still get some cool looking ones but most look like shiny rounded jelly with big eyes or just plain weird, and having some dangerous looking dragon type Pokemon surrounded by bouncing fluffy and rounded jelly things just looks out of place. I wish they would release a 3D open world Pokemon game based on the originals from 1990s and 2000s.

I understand wanting good story implementation for new mythicals but quite frankly,, I want Meloetta and Shaymin in every single game. Not just games from over a decade ago that I can’t even obtain anymore. At the end of the day, a lot of the joy for me and others in this franchise is being able to get and use your absolute favourite Pokemon. I think mythicals should be kept post game but, I see nothing wrong with adding previous mythicals in newer games. Will it make sense lore wise? Probably not. Are there devs gonna have the time or space to add a unique event for every single one? No, but I doubt most people care

I love how they gift you a Mew and Celebi randomly in the 8th Gen remakes if you own a copy of Sword/Shield and Let's go...

Completely destroys the myth in a legit fashion.

@TheLibermania

I bet that 90 % of modern full Pokedexes are cheated some way for the mythicals.

I had a full Pokedex in Pokemon Black because i bought a used copy for my nephew and, well... the boxes had some suspicious Pokemon in it (as example a shiny Arceus). But i thought there probably legit (cough cough) and traded them to my main copy.

@TheLibermania

Non other mythical had the mistery that mew had surrounding them. In fact in gen 4 everything was easily found on the internet, while in gen one it was always so mysterious.

The answer is no, because Deoxys was originally a mythical. Making mythicals more accessible doesn't remove their mythical status.

Anyone familiar with Undertale's iceberg of lore can attest to the fact that wifi events are convoluted and punishing for game owners without access to them. Just put it in the original cartridge and let us explore.

I agree with a lot of the points in the comment section about how people can't get the pokemon without the event, but therd are reasons to have the events too. Maybe they could just have it related to a story related quest, connected to an event, but then maybe after the game has been out for a bit of time they could update the game to make the quest open to everybody? That or it should be open to everybody. I feel like the definitions should be that legendaries are directly intertwined within the story and conflict of the games, while mythics should be related to the lore and universe, you have to go out of your way to get them in a more mysterious and difficult quest. I feel like the older mythics are so interesting because they feel like real mysteries inside the world. One day you find a mysterious pokeball and then you find a mythical pokemon by investigating

Arceus aint shit, Mew is the creator of all pokemon.

@hillbilly904

Pokemon wasn't successful because of Mew. Mew just added fuel to the fire. Pokémon RBY took off HARD in the US, and the cards superboosted it. Mew was a fun and exciting playground rumor. That's was all.

@Canttouchthis04

Love your videos, but I'm not on the same page with this one. The events, extra purchases, etc locking pokemon is not fun, imo. I'd strongly prefer every pokemon be available through regular game-play in each game. Make it hard, sure, but don't make someone have to go to a game store on a specific day to get a pokemon. (Part of why I love your Legacy rom hacks so much)

Mysteries are one of the most powerful things in the communication age.

A little horror game made by a solo dev with lore that goes extremely deep.. that's what creates a spark in the information age.

You got gen 3 backwards. Jirachi was actually the FIRST mythical Pok'emon. Deoxys was the second. You only need to look at their Pok'edex numbers to prove that. 385 is Jirachi and 386 is Deoxys. Plus I already had Jirachi from Pok'emon Colosseum's bonus disk which you neglected to mention was only available if you per-ordered the game from Toys R Us. I had the bonus disk and actually recently sold it on ebay. I didn't even know Deoxys existed till later when it showed up in a list of Game Shark cheat codes for the game.

progress through game, do not fight the trainer with the slowpoke after crossing nugget bridge. do not fight the gambler on the route to saffron city from lavender town. obtain fly. teach and use fly to a pokemon and go to the underground path by where the gambler is from the other side and pass through, saving before exiting and walking down towards the gambler, as soon as he begins to recognize you, open start menu and fly to cerulean city and go fight the trainer with the slowpoke, then fly to lavender town and the moment you enter the route, mew will appear and you can battle/catch it from there. Works in every version of the gen 1 pokemon games.

@AugustineDelgado

28:23 what made it worse was that I thought I could transfer new from pokemon go, only to find out years later that the pokeball plus was the only way mew could go into let's go. I was pissed to say the least. The whole reason for playing that stupid game

@amilcarballantyne

Game freek and revive Mythicals they just need to use there brains to make the best mythical with gen 10 witch might be why it's taking the longest time to make a mainine game

@GehrigCoppersmith

Grew up in New Zealand literally at the bottom of the world where none of these events or options to obtain mythics ever took place.

Both sucked and provided us an endless grind of rumours that kept us trying to get the mythics.

Was always awe inspiring but also abysmal having 249 Pokémon in gold/silver and never being able to complete the game.

@dyl4560
@

What ruined new Pokemon games for me was the utter dog shit optimization of Scarlet and Violet. Completely unacceptable.

@edman1357

Very weird take. Pokemon was a hit because of the TV show and toys/cards. It was gambling for kids, but instead of money, you got random cute creatures. With the cards, you had different rarities-- shinies, rarer pokemon. The games were an afterthought you'd end up either getting for Christmas or seeing your (richer) friends have at school.
