How Much Should Your Japan Trip Cost? | Japan Trip Budget Breakdown
Video Overview & Insights
How much do you need to budget for Japan? We will take a look at the cost of a possible 2 week trip in Japan and see how much you should expect to spend on everything from flights to hotels and give you an idea of the breakdown of each expense so you can plan and budget properly for your trip.
I want to go during the off season for 2027 as a solo traveler. Iâm interested in the cheap capsule hotels and I donât dine out much anyway, I prefer convenience store food so I donât plan on spending lots for that. My plan is shopping and sightseeing. Would 3k-5k be enough for two weeks including flights from Canada QC? (Rn theyâre about 1.1k for a round trip)

this was a nice breakdown. My first trip to Japan, I managed to use all my accrued credit card points on the flight. So that helped tremendously. My second trip i didn't have enough points for the flights but were able to use them to cover the hotel costs (~1 week stay). I am now going for a 3rd time and the flights were definitely more than the last time. Mostly because i booked it closer to the date than the previous time. regarding all 3 times, we were able to find nice accommodations for less than $100 USD/night. One of the "sneaky" costs for us was definitely the transportation either train/taxi/shinkansen etc that added up.

Lots of great tips in this video, thank you!!!
Just booked my flight from Ohio to Tokyo-Narita. United Airlines wanted over $2k, I booked just booked with Air Canada for under $1400 with the same parameters but I got extra legroom seats for all legs of the flight!!!! I do have to alter my plans slightly with about one extra Shinkansen ride and an additional six hours of travel, but well worth the savings.

I want to round-trip tickets on ANA from America to Japan. In year 2000 we didnât have YouTube videos about Japan. The only thing Iâve ever heard was $120 cantaloupe. I was in my early 20s and too scared to go because I wasnât loaded with cash. If nothing else I shouldâve flown stayed a day or two and came back if nothing else. One of my regrets in life. PS I did give my friend a ticket. She did bail on me. Thatâs why I didnât end up going. I really didnât wanna go alone. Now Iâm older. I would do it in a heartbeat.

Like your videos a lot. The medium seems pretty reasonable. Going in late may 2027. Was able to use Hyatt points and get hotel paid for the 2 weeks. But flight costs are running higher these days. excited to go, and your videos really help a lot

Not sure if you included travel fees/tax im staying in a nice but cheap $50/day hotel and the travel fees were almost the same cost.

2:25 - Pro Tip
I travel single and its been one of my dreams since i was little to visit japan as its heavily influenced its culture into my raising (more so okinawa) so in the next year or two im planning to finally make the trip! Ive got enough flight miles to fly for free at least. Since its such a rare opportunity im aiming for 4 weels but will do 3 weeks minimum. So one of the biggest things i have to decide is when. I LOVE cherry blossoms, but is it worth the 30-50% price hike?? I think itd be a blast to see some festivals too! So i have loooots of planning to figure out!
2:41 - Low Budget Tokyo Hotel
4:14 - Medium Budget Tokyo Hotel
Cherry trees in Traverse City, Michigan, typically bloom in early to mid-May, with peak, picturesque white blossoms often appearing around the second week of the month. While peak bloom lasts only about 4â5 days per tree, the season spans 1â2 weeks across the region, with inland, warmer areas blooming slightly earlier than those on the peninsulas.. big deal.

Booking hotel a day after flight is something I wish I knew before hand. Thanks for this

One trick to remember you need a hotel the day after you take off to fly from USA. Pretend your first night is staying in the plane

Seeing this video I'm now terrified about the trip we will be planning for June 2027... 10 days, 2 adults, 2 11 year old kids. I was hoping for around 10k total and I was just going to work alot of overtime this year.... Cheapest flight I see are around $1200 each for economy from Kentucky. It will suck when it gets closer to be really be able to book plans to find out if will be too much.

its gonna be my first time traveling to japan in october , im going there solo , im mainly just gonna spend time in tokyo so i wonder if you could could recommend me a good place to stay , my plan is to stay at a hostel in shinjuku but i left some open gaps to chose another place if necessary or better ! thank you all in advance :)
13:54 - Spending and Activities
15:34 - Totals
Spot on! I have been planning our family of four trip for several weeks now. My goal has always been in the mid-tier range, splurging in certain areas and saving in others. After booking premium economy flights and 3-star hotels we are projected to be around $15k-$17k once all said and done. There are a few high-end restaurants we will go to but we'll mostly be happy with cheap bowls of ramen, conveyor belt sushi and street food. Entertainment-wise there are a few splurges booked but we'll mostly spend our times exploring and enjoying the beauty of Tokyo and Kyoto. I appreciate the videos! They all have been a great deal of help in planning this trip.

Will be out in Japan from October 22nd to December 10th for the first time! Will be doing the basic tourist trap stuff in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto plus a mini roadtrip to Sendai City in a Toyota rental. We were able to budget between me and 2 other people for ~$2500. Decent stays at Tokyo and Osaka and internet cafes (Kaikatsu Club) in Sendai City.
@LetUsDrownInWhen we used your klook code, it was just 1% đ˘đ
@SienEatsploreI just booked a sudden trip to japan because it was only a $780 roundtrip ticket! I didnt know that it is during golden week however kind of nervous but after paying for flights and hotels im going to have $2000-2500 and i think that should be enough for 8 days.
@nickdominguez3507I'm going solo and i figured a 3k budget(including the 1k flight) would work for me, you basically confirmed it! Thanks!
@drewdavid18My tip is save for flights and accommodation first and book them 6 months or more in advance then spend the remaining time saving your spending money
@TeamSmashAUI traveled with 2 friends for 2 weeks doing Osaka, Kyoto, Tokyo, Aomori, then back to Tokyo. Even with 3 total Shinkansen tickets, a 2 night resort stay, and a lot of activities and spending, my cost for just me was about $4k. We went in October.
I always say that the flights are the biggest hurdle. Once you get there, everything is very affordable.
Going to Vietnam for all of March. Going to spend 1 week in Tokyo during Sakura season as I donât know if Iâll get this opportunity again. Hotels are super expensive during that time especially if you want to be near the Yamanote Line
@sonnydo8522I am planning for the first time in Japan on April for 11 days. Plane tickets and hotel already cost me over 11k. I have watching your videos so many times to get an idea . Thanks for sharing your experiences.
@quangnhatlmMy second Japan trip is fast approaching (in 19 days). For budgeting, my flight was ÂŁ691 (connection in China), hotel is ÂŁ264 (a decent capsule hotel I stayed in before in Yokohama. 11 nights). Universal cost me about ÂŁ70, flight to Osaka ÂŁ63. Ticket for a concert (main reason I'm going) was ÂŁ173. Only thing left to book is a bullet train from Kyoto back to Yokohama. So in bookings as of right now, that totals to roughly ÂŁ1130 (bullet train seems to be around ÂŁ70, so if we include that, it'll be around ÂŁ1200).
Then I'm bringing ÂĽ200,000 in spending money. I think I've budgeted this trip decently (this is for solo travel). Just under ÂĽ20,000 a day doesn't sound awful.
wait all this with airplain ticket + hotel it=s for 2 people and it's like low 3.181 $??? god damn i'm going solo my airbn it's pay my airplain it's pay... and i'm goging with 3.5k $ god damn
@fernll8286I'm gonna be travelling solo and just knowing I can go between mid to high tier and get my dream trip is making me so happy
@NickItaly1Weâre planning a 14-day trip to Japan for mid-April. The current itinerary includes Tokyo, Ise, Nara, Kyoto, and Osaka, with additional stops at the Naruto whirlpools and Hiroshima. Do you have any recommendations for this specific route?
@mylittleanglerMe & GF been to Japan twice now. Our 1st trip was for concert that was just 2 months away. So airfare was a premium.
We still only spent $5000 for the trip. Our next trip we planned well ahead and kept it to $3000. That's including transportation, food & miscellaneous
Already 4k in on flights and rooms for 8 days on a family of 5. Still working on the transportation and meals.
@elamigodaviGreat video! Just booked my second and shortest trip yet for two weeks in March.
If you exclude flights total spend was around 3-4k we are staying in Tokyo and Osaka.
Well flight is rly the biggest difference where one has not so much influence in.
We went for 22 days over new year as a family of 3. Landed in tokyo from germany with jal direct 13h flight, flight to sapporo, flight to osaka. One night at Koyasan. Shinkansen and bus to Kusatsu Onsen 2 Nights and back to tokyo. At the end we had 6 pieces of checked baggage and 3 carry on. We skipped nothing and did what we wanted including universal studios and disneyland. We send our luggage to our next hotel and we spent 7kâŹ... Excluding souvenirs... đ
... So around 8k$.
Do have a budget for a month in Japan and in Aud
@wintryterror933321 day vacation in Ho Chi Minh & Japan before Golden Week with my wife and I in April.
Calculated around $20,000~
Business Class Flights for 2 LAX > HND
$4,000
65k AirFrance points + $142 for business class from HCM to Tokyo.
$1,120 Osaka to LAX.
Hotel in Ho Chi Minh with MMP form was $510 at the Sheraton Saigon for 4 nights (biggest saving)
3 nights in Tokyo - $1,120
2 nights in MT Fuji, Ubuya - $1,800 (splurged on this)
2 nights in Hakone - $610
3 nights in Osaka - $1,300
No sacrifices made on this trip lol. If you go on vacation, GO ON VACATION
As someone who has spent literally dozens of hours planning my first trip to Japan in a few months, hereâs my two cents. I would map out what kind of trip you want for yourself and family. This includes restaurants, activities, cities you want to stay in, etc. Iâm a solo traveler so I get to pick my itinerary based upon what interests me. My personal philosophy when it comes to traveling is to not skimp on stuff you know you want (within reason). I would much rather pay a little extra for a more memorable trip than to save a few bucks and stay at a hotel that isnât as good of a quality. Japan is definitely the type of place you can stay super cheap and eat cheap if you want to do so.
@Larry-dq4igI was wondering if you can get weekly travel card or something similar?
@anneap100Good to know my gut was right about our budget, we're a couple travelling during peak cherry blossom 2026 and budgeting about $8kUSD, we're doing 8 days in Tokyo and 4 days in Seoul! Planning on being pretty minimal on dining and lodging, and have part of the trip subsidized with credit card points, but will probably go to disney and teamlabs and do a day trip to mt fuji so it kinda evens out!
@leerodriguez9564I went in May this year, flight was US $ 5700 in business class from Europe, we mainly stayed in 3 star hotels but splurged for a night at the Okura in Tokyo. 2 weeks Japan = flight + hotels + sightseeing + food + local transportation was around US $ 9000 pp. Next month I'm back in Japan but flying from Seoul: flight round trip business class US$ 700 and 3 nights at Tsuki hotel in Ginza is around US $ 850 for 3 nights in a premium room.
@mvanmeenI plan to go with my partner in late October 2026 - flights from AUS are about 1.5K per person and we are staying in tokyo, osaka and kyoto - However i am wondering if we should just do tokyo and kyoto and make a day trip to osaka for USJ. Advice would be appreciated and thank you for the great video!! I am budgeting around 8K just to cover absolutely everything.
@DIVINEBUDGETSSHeading to Tokyo next month, solo trip staying there for 2 weeks in Shinjuku. Flight and hotel already totaled $4500 USD lol just for one person.
@jensenvu3525This is a very helpful guide but when I plan to finally go to Japan I do NOT wanna stay in Tokyo. Ofc I wanna see the hubbub and sights and all that, but my goal since I was a kid is to be in Niigata. would the budget be better or different if I were to stay in a ryokan or hotel in Niigata? (instead of trying to cram myself in the same hotels as every other American trying to holiday in Japan)
@PLNKYELLOWBLACKI was in Tokyo for almost 2 weeks and it was the worst.. that´s why i booked for 4 weeks next year
also i´m flying to osaka and departing from haneda which saves me a trip with the shinkansen
current estimate is 6k âŹ
Guess for a place to stay and food traveling will need 30,000 dollars. Maybe more.
@denise6715I'm traveling to Japan very soon with my partner for a 3 weeks stay in Japan. Going from Tokyo to Osaka back to Tokyo and with flight being 1600 for 2 people and staying at 5 hotels that equaled up to a total of 1400 I think I made a great choice getting my capital one venture x card because with the points and I credit I received I just made that 1400 3 week hotel stays into 800 for 3 weeks. Travel card is the best way I feel to stay in Japan. I priced match everything đ
@alexisesparza8683Nice information as japan is expensive country
