Being a kid from Southern Connecticut, the only pro team at the time was the Hartford Whalers NHL team, but since I enjoy basketball more, I stay connected with the New York Knicks for nearly 40's years now as a fan.

Cmon! The Nets started life on Long Island, and probably would still be there today(or in Queens with the Islanders) if the Knicks hadn’t forced the Nets to sell off Dr J to pay the bogus market territory fee when the ABA merged with the NBA.

@DaveLikesCheese-t2fCool video. I live in CT but spent time throughout my childhood living in Brooklyn, Rockland County, and Westchester County. My grandparents on my dad’s side were first generation Americans who grew up in the Bronx. That whole side has always exclusively rooted for the Yankees, Giants, Knicks, and Rangers, without exception. My mom grew up on Long Island and on that side, my grandfather would genuinely root for any New York team (Nets excluded [if you consider them a NY team] and he didn’t really care about hockey). He grew up before the Mets and Jets existed, so he was a Yankees and Giants fan at heart, but he loved the Mets and the Jets too. He’d make sure he took my brother and I to at least one Yankees home game and one Mets home game every year. I took on my dad’s teams down the line and am diehard in my loyalty, but unlike a lot of Yankees fans, I’ll root for the Mets if they’re not playing the Yankees. Same goes for the Islanders (although I don’t really consider them a true NYC team) if they’re not playing the Rangers. I find it much harder to root for the Jets if they’re not playing the Giants. They’ve been such a hate-able franchise to me for so long. I sometimes find myself gleefully watching them struggle, but there will be moments when I pity them too. To me, the Nets aren’t a real NY team and I genuinely hate them more than any NBA team except for the Lakers and the Celtics. I loved watching all those bandwagon fans, who hopped on after they signed KD, Kyrie, and Harden, suffer. When it comes to basketball, real New York sports fans recognize that the whole city belongs to the Knicks. Not as much so with hockey, but there’s a similar feeling to the Rangers owning the whole city. The Islanders are more of a Long Island team than an NYC team. Anyway, let’s go Knicks! If they win the finals, I’ll have seen each of my favorite professional teams win at least one championship in my life, and then I can die in peace.
