Late comment but characterising this psg system by position is wrong, they play a 3-1-6, Pinner-floater-anchor system, they will always build up In a 3 with either Mendes/vitinha in the 3, neves/ruiz as the replacing anchor if Vitinha drops into the 3, Vitinha dropping into the 3 allows Mendes to push forward. It's also important to note that they completely ignore zone 14 and are more obsessed with the idea of having all players occupy all 5 vertical attacking lanes of the pitch. Defacto, Vitinha is more than likely always their anchor, hakimi and kvara as the pinners(width holders) and Ruiz, neves, doue and dembele as the floaters.
Yes they have broken football to a certain extent, but also this system cannot be replicated with a different profile of front 3. High IQ, being strong off both feet and having the ability to be tactically competent when occupying different vertical attacking lanes( only applies to floaters) is massively important.

Super insightful. You seem to look at the game like a poker player would. Thinking steps ahead and how one action creates different types of options later on. A lot of what we coach in football is based on habit, like the wide free kick and not just crossing it straight in because 'it's what youre supposed to do'

you should watch several matchs of PSG this season where Doué plays as midfielder, and Ruiz is out. Barcola and Kvara or someone else on the wings. Doué acts as a 2nd winger support on each side and attack midfielder. PSG becomes even more powerful.

Maybe the blame it's on the translation of the title to Portuguese. If so, disregard this part but what's happening is cyclical. In fact, two seasons ago Fernando Diniz won the Libertadores with elements (freedom) of this. Brazil always played like this and since our coaches tried to be "more European" and copy the rigidity trend we went downhill. Not even the 7x1 taught them anything.
Back to video, Ancelotti always (his MIlan side was like this) gave this freedom of movement and creation once his teams were on the attack. But to overvalue Pepe and the trend of control freaks, it was agreed (Punditis, fans AND tacticos) that he had no tactics acumen and was just a "the power of friendship" merchant.
In fact, more than his qualities as a coach, the secret to Guradiola's success was convincing the world and his opponents that they could only win with his style. It is no coincidence that the only coaches who defeated him (and with MUCH less $$ spent) were Klopp and Ancelotti. Each in their own way, both always thought outside the box and were not poorly made copies of Pepe

@nyatism7361Positional play is only for players who need to be told what to do and by a manager who thinks their plan is foolproof. The best players understand the game and react and place themselves situationally to remain at advantage over their opponent so while they do have structure they aren't too fixed which allows them the flexibility to create advantages. Sometimes you'll have to stretch wide and other times you may have to smother a region. Read and anticipate the game and most times you'll play the best to your ability. It combines teamwork and individual brilliance and it's such a joy to watch this form of football

@borussia_teethvilla got it right up to now in the champions league, they looked shaken v PSG giving sloppy passes to each other, need to fix that issue for the next match also need more pace getting forward, tielmanns treading passes through the middle isnt going to work against PSG, we've seen that in the last match, watkins always waits for the same balls so easy to read him when he's on, they've got that match to work off now to analyze which emery does so well, im expecting a good performance from villa, especially at home

Are we seeing a "new" football and where everyone will copy Luis Enrique? I think this team is still too young and they won't be able to compete with the Barcelona machine or even Inter. Bayern has too many absentees.
