How to Be Good at Any Fighting Game (I Swear)

💥 How To Get GOOD at ANY Fighting Game (I Swear) 💥

The volume of views this video has gotten since last year has been insane! Thanks to everybody who has checked the video out. I hope it helped you. I have more videos of this style on the channel, and I plan to do more in the future. Appreciate all the support and keep enjoying your favorite fighting games!

— @ButtonMashersYT

I’ve played every major fighting game — from Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and Guilty Gear Strive to 2XKO and Dragon Ball FighterZ — and over time, I’ve learned exactly what it takes to improve quickly in any of them.

In this video, I break down the 3 core principles that will help you level up faster than ever, no matter what you play:

I kinda wish I could learn fighting games by just playing the matches. not having to learn frame data and doing training room stuff, just get into matches and slowly intuitive getting the hang of the game by doing the fun part of it but most of friends argue the skill gap between online-players and newbies is so vast I'll never get the chance to learn anything firsthand if I don't "study" the game become going online, so like if they're right fighting games just aren't built for me to get into and as a huge fan of some of those franchises that makes me a little sad.
Anyone has some advice on this or it just a "git gud" situation?

— @Horde1Blades

🎯 1) Avoidance: Stop autopiloting and play around avoiding your opponents strongest options.

🎯 2) Punishment: Identify and destroy the common bad habits every player in your game relies on.

Thank you for this video. I would like to personally believe that avoidance can fall under more than just fighting game category.

— @ZennySational

🎯 3) Fundamentals: Focus on what actually matters — neutral, defense, spacing, and movement — instead of flashy combos or gimmicks.

🔥 What You’ll Learn:

I learned allot from this video. Like how to pronounce several words wrong.

Its NOT about learning the games its about beating the ANXIETY of PVP and of Losing at all! Those are the 2 things that limit fighting games IMHO.

Currently trying Invincible Vs as my first fighting game and i have to say I hate the concept. You are literally stun locked half of the game by your opponent. How is that fun unless you are so good to stun lock your opponent all of the game.

I've always thought, you can't play fighting games unless you know how to do 0-death combos. It's extremely helpful and enlightening, learning that they're not necessary.

1:15 PapaGR is CRACKED at dbfz, used to spar with him from time to time back in the day (season3), so I hit him up after rollback came out to run some games after I had stopped playing for years and he absolutely cooked me
point being... if you can keep up with him your word is definitely valid

The key to getting good at anything is just to do it. We get better at the things we do the most, especially if its fun. So get out there and just do the things, if ur having fun the learning will come with time.

golden rule - don't ever "rely" on ANY move. even if it "works". there's no such thing as a magical setup that gets you free wins; that's just relying on your opponents lacking knowledge dealing with that particular bs, you rank up way out of your league and get hard stuck cuz eventually your little trick is gonna get shut down every time. the point is to ACTUALLY get good, not find some cheap move/setup you can do over and over again. in fact, you waste so much time and potential by relying on bs. seemingly "useful" moves are like a trap cuz they feel like the easy way out, when no such thing exists. "winning" for the sake of winning is not only meaningless, but actually gonna work against you in the long run. winning rounds and getting better are completely different things. you need to actually DESERVE each win (so you need to be honest with yourself - and be able to ask "did i actually deserve that win?"). study your opponents, try to react to things, always keep calm, balance out your offence and defence, and press every button with full intent and conscience - you need to be able to explain exactly why you did every one of your moves. if you're too excited, nervous etc to do any/all of these things, go to ranked, and just practice "chilling out" on screen. seriously. get used to seeing your character getting beat up while remaining calm. NEVER MASH BUTTONS. do that anti-air no matter how late your reaction is - do the motion while getting hit by that jump-in if you have to, but do the motion every time you get jumped on to train your brain, who cares about some rank or number for now. the point is to train yourself to get better. but NEVER RELY on anything - not throw-spams, not sweep spams, not jinrai spams, not slides. you're just heading straight to hard-stuck hell, when you could have been trying out / practicing 20 other things all those hours doing the same bs.

Biggest tip......u are going to lose a lot
1. Pick a character u like ( hard or easy)
2. Learn to move with character snd learn character's special moves
3. Learn a simple combo and gameplan with character and fight (start with cpu then when u feel comfortable head online and expect to lose. Your goal is to see what others character can do.

@ButtonMashersYT since I only have time to really get good at one fighting game in particular then, I can’t wait for Invincible VS. as a huge fan of the property I have a copy of the game preordered and I will be playing this game in the beta as well next week the open beta.

I haven’t had a chance and I can’t wait to put my Invincible shirt on with my boy Mark Grayson on it and grind it out possibly with Mark Grayson somewhere on my team depending on if I find a character from the franchise I enjoy playing more than him which, is very possible.

What's helped me is just focusing on the fundamentals. Block, footsies, anti air, throw breaks. I was focused way to much on complex combos and would get frustrated when I couldn't execute them. But just focusing on the fundamentals, and like 2-3 medium difficulty combos for engages/punishes, was huge for helping me actually enjoy fighting games. Good luck fellow noobs.

Good video, small besides-the-point thing: you pronounce "genre" very unusually compared to basically all other words that you pronounce quite normally. It was throwing me off. :D

What i learned that has helped me alot is knowing which attacks or combos are safe on block for your character. It doesnt have to be fancy and usually its a simple three hit combo or a jab. But knowing that and using this to punish and set up more aggressive attacka has really helped me alot.

And you dont even necessarily need to memorize frame data either. Just figure out which attacks are relatively quick and have them in your back pocket.

Except 2KXO, that game is just cheeks. The imbalance, the $20 skins, the combo viewing simulator, the loss of half the dev team not a bit after the game releases.

Its straight DOO DOO.

The bad habits principle could not be stated more enough. I don't play much fighting games except SF6 and that too, casually. But I've noticed every player has a pattern that's easy to exploit. Most of the time I've seen players use drive reversals every time I do a drive reversal. Which leaves them open for throws and low attacks.

This is awesome I plan on making Invincible VS. my main fighting game I learn to play because really I only have time to put into one fighting game right now with other life responsibilities etc so I think Invincible VS. will be the one come April 30th I put the most time into as a huge invincible fan and I really think this should help me not focus on the wrong things when first starting out.

I mean sure I might go through the very basics tutorial just to sort of learn the very bare minimum as far as Invincible specifics go just so that way I can understand at just a very basic and fundamental level how the game works and then I’ll use this guide to go play matches and learn this way.

Great advice I'm recently getting back into fighting games and I'm starting with Under Night In-Birth 2. Anime fighting games are my favorite types to play and learning the fundamentals of a character are important, you need to start from the bottom and then work your way up. I'm not the best at fighting games I'm like still in the beginner tier even though I've played since Soul Blade on the PS1. xD
