We’ve all had conversations that feel forced, awkward, or just boring. Sometimes it gets to the point where you have no idea what to say.

Giving somebody a branch to continue the conversation, considering this alone. I’ve had damn near zero success with it😂😂

— @TheMINDL3SSGamers

While it’s funny on TV, in real life, these conversations are painful.

So in this video, we’ll go over five common mistakes that lead to boring conversations, and what to do so you can have amazing conversations instead.

"If you had 100 million dollars, what brand would your microwave be?"

— @L-8

We'll do this using clips from some of the best conversationalists that we've covered on the channel so far.

Not standing out is my whole method

— @gzig61

0:00 - Intro

0:42 - Mistake #1: Energy ducking

Haha. This advice is nice in theory but not practical… he is using professional entertainers as examples and that’s far more talented than most people (which is why we all watch them). It’s a nice idea, but most of us can’t use this advice since the gap is too wide between normal and pro level!

— @2qt2barmy

3:00 - Mistake #2: Assuming interest

4:28 - Mistake #3: Giving bland one to five words answers

what's wrong with imbd?

— @SpaghettiToaster

6:24 - Mistake #4: Asking the same boring default questions

8:51 - Mistake #5: Being a passive listener

If Tom Cruise would have thrown a sofa cushion, people would have said that he is mentally ill. Guess he isn't allowed high energy because he's a Scientologist.

You start building self esteem in high school and go full steam in your 20s. By the time you are 30s, the introvert in you would know when to back out and come back.

The opening clip, i feel so sorry for him. He's likely also just in total panic talking to her in the first place !

Imagine a world where not 99.9% of humans where people didn't submit themselves to status seeking behaviour and instead saw it for the meaningless thing that it is, valuing each other based not on the impulsive thing we say and the way we look, looking inside instead, looking for actual goodness, not having to waste tremendous energy on petty behaviour but where we could focus on all that is actually good and brings forth good. what a world that would be

5:00 I think Kanye was giving such short answers because Jimmy was asking yes or no questions instead of open ended questions. which would be jimmy’s mistake.

I watch a lot of 'upping your convo' vids. This one has some unique nuggets that can be put into practice pretty easily. Nicely done!

Not even watching this video. If you have to watch this, something is inherently wrong with you. Just be yourself and be kind. STOP THIS "LOW VALUE" GARBAGE. YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH.

Amazing video! I thought people are born with such personality, but now I realised it's just a skill. Thank you @charsimaoncommand for this video. Hopefully I will apply what I learned today.

I used a very similar joke to the "black tar heroin" one on family dinner... my mom called me a drug addict and continued with the boring conversation :D

@marcosgimenez9074
@

I feel like this video is meant for the new generation since they're always on their phone they probably don't know how to act and be normal in real life because everything you mentioned is just like natural to make common sense and you think most people would have this ability to crack jokes and not take life too serious and be funny and no the persuasion of communication but then again I don't know but this also could be for introvert socially awkward people. P😊 just surprised this was recommended for me to watch lol

@JoeZoe89
@

5:39 the difference in the two interviewers is that one is asking yes no questions, the other is asking open ended question that require more than one word

@izzojoseph2

Just do the opposite of whatever Elon Musk does.

@fessics

Ugh, I thought it was a different kind of video, but no, I'm definitely not the target audience. I'm not necessarily introverted, I'm reserved; I only speak when my interests align. I'm not going to pretend to be a clown just to entertain others.
Hah, I can even go so far as to say that I detest small talk, or small talk as most like to call it. If there's one thing I take away from this video, it's references for the novel I'm writing.

@reijgr442
@

Hehehe... we used to talking about status to make you feel undesirable if you didn't had it...

But now it seems like people can still reject you if you had just an unfamiliar attitude...

Thanks for elaborating this! I mean it's the case that goes with me of course

This video reminded me how fun it actually is to talk to someone. You see the goal here is to not make people like you, but create relationships with people. I’ve been reading through the comments in this video and it seems like most of y’all just find it exhausting to talk to people😅. I don’t really care but it’s fun to have to talk to people especially when there is no commitment involved.

I’m currently in college right now and I can truly say that I needed this video because it reminded me how fun it actually is talking to people. It’s not just about them talking to you, buy YOUU TALKING to them!! Sharing how you feel! Expressing instead of repressing! There’s just something beautiful with this.

@tuxedocat2423

i literally stopped accommodating to other people in conversations, years ago

i'd rather leave an impression of a boring person than having interesting and funny small talk that leads nowhere with someone to whom i didn't even want to talk to in the first place
