where in new york did you put yourself through the academy

here in CT, you can't self sponsor yourself into the academy. its a bad idea to go through the academy not knowing if you'll actually get hired by a PD idek why places would offer that but hey I guess that makes it easier. Over here we get hired first, then they send us to POST.

I’m in CT and to become a police officer here you gotta pass both Chip and written test. Once you pass those tests you can start applying at the departments that are hiring in the State. When hired the department will sponsor the recruit through the academy.

I worked at a college in NJ WITH a police academy, Phases one and two are separate. This was when I worked as a security officer (armed) in NJ. Here, I'm not sure. I live in NY now, too. I'm a machine mechanic now. So I don't have a clue. Oh and by the way, LOOOVVVEEEE the make-up!

I live in New York Long Island Suffolk County, I talked with cops by me they have shifts 7 am-3 pm 5 days then 2 days off then 3 pm -11 pm then 3 days off then 7 am-3 pm. Then the overnight ones are 9 pm-7 am.

I am starting the Academy in June (Age 40 mom of 2 ) after 16 years in Property Management. Thank you for you videos, your tips and motivation has truly helped.

I have worked for two CA law enforcement state agencies. 1) She’s right. Every interaction is a part of the very long process/interview. Be professional with your dress and grooming standards. You’re not applying for a job, you’re applying for a long term career. Even during your PAT, be polished. Be under the radar. No logos, no words, no holes or stains. Cover your tattoos (for now). 2) READ and follow directions. 3) CHP and CDI will pay for your academy if you successfully pass backgrounds. 4) Use your resources for the agency you’re applying for. 5) Be professional. 6) Be honest and forthcoming. Some things that might seem disqualifying, can be mitigated if you’re open and honest about it. 7) If you’re not already, start running, do push ups, and sit ups. Get on a regular sleep and workout schedule. Hydrate and eat a balanced, fueling diet. Be the example you would want to see policing. 8) If this is something you truly want, if you fail along the way, do not give up.

I wish I had had a girl boss like you to talk to when I was thinking about going into law enforcement 20 yrs ago. There wasn’t much help, not major internet websites to look things up. I’m in the Uk as well so it’s all different, but I was so prepared health wise to get started, but there was only a couple of places available, now they do big recruitment drives. It’s my sliding door moment, where I wish I could go back and just tell my younger self to keep pushing and just go for it. Thank you again for just being awesome!!!!!

Been in law enforcement for about 5 years now. I self sponsored myself through basic law enforcement training. Started applying for agencies during school. I’ve worked for 3 agencies all ones in my county I reside. Currently at a small police department (12 total patrol officers) as far as facial hair my basic law enforcement class allowed facial hair, if you were sponsored and that specific department allowed facial hair while working.

Would help me to when I got into the police department I was in the Marine corps that really helped me out ambient shape you have to be in shape do not try to get in shape in the academy that's the worst thing to do they will drop you from the program real quick and like I tell a lot of people South Central LA is a learning location we get cops from Boston New York Texas and other agencies they come down and they ride with us and with LAPD are now called GED units gang enforcement division p all we do is deal with gang members some of the hardcore gang members other than that keep your heads high p you'll get it

I want to be a police officer, I live in Arkansas and I have no idea what to do or where to start so when I was interested in the military a couple of years ago, I stopped smoking cigarettes, I started working out, it was SO difficult at first. But I have no family support and two sons I'm raising. I want to be more than a mother, more than a retail associate. I want to be able to protect myself and all others. I feel like it is calling to me.

I’m on my 6th year of LE in GA(moved from NY) when I went to the academy it was 11 weeks now it’s a 3 month academy. My small agency then requires 12 weeks of FTO once that’s completed you get a take home vehicle but every agency I’ve worked for is different but YES you have to be hired by an agency to go to the academy

She definitely dates black men—I knew it when she used the word “females”. Black men always call women “females” which really takes away their individuality—to refer to women as females. It sounds derogatory.

I've been with LA county sheriff's department for 30 plus years now I work Operation safe Street it's a good job and it needs good people everything that she's saying is correct another thing you got to know how to let things go if you get pissed off quickly are you take stuff personal then this job is not for you and asked question to older cops and ask questions to the cops that you see in the neighborhood that everybody's friendly to and give a lot of respect to those are the kind of cops you want to hang out with and you want to learn from

I’ve been a cop in Kansas for 20 years. Here, you have to be sponsored by the agency that hires you. You can’t self sponsor. It works out good actually. While getting a CJ degree is good, I would highly recommend going to school for something other than CJ. I’ve hired guys/gals with degrees ranging from education to a welding certificate. In rural KS where I work, if you show up in a suit…we are gonna judge you HARD LOL. Wear nice slacks a button down shirt and a blazer of some kind. Match that with your best cowboy boots for bonus points. Lastly SHAVE and get a haircut if you’re a guy.
