Mis-remembering an initial melody - what an ingenious method ... natural simplification. Interesting snippet also about keeping a melody within an octave and a half. Fascinating subject this video ... thank you very much.

Thank you so much Zach! I’m currently writing songs, i can easily write lyrics as I am very expressive but always had a hard time putting the right melody in. This video has helped me jumpstart my discovery of melodies to write better. Thank you!

@IsaacJustin-e4pThose two melodies are almost identical
@Piercing-the-Veilfull of shit, get good
@erikjmusic1Pls like this comment
@jaster2622Excellent
@TimOestmannspitfires free piano is sick . I admit, it seems like it only round robins between 2 samples per note, but… the tone and warmth is next level inspiring. I could play ANY chord on the std “GM Piano” and be disgusted. While, literally EVERY chord is so inspiring on Spitfire. This lesson on melody was extremely helpful, thank you Zack. You are a fantastic musician my guy. Much love!
@ineedstuff8286Hi, any DAW suggestion for a completely virtual music production please ? using only a MIDI ? Thanks
@دليلالعبدفيكشفالهبدI have been a musician for 40 years, and it's incredible that nowadays, people are emerging, claiming to be music composers with AI, but can't play anything nor know how to lay a track down. Learn an instrument! It's an absolute joke if one thinks they can compose music by telling an AI programme what sounds to make! And spending time tweaking certain parts, as you can't find the musical vocabulary/terminology to get the point across...learn an instrument you lazy f*cks...its actually fun, and really full filing!
One last thing, there's a guy called Jason Becker, who was a stunning guitar player who got his world ripped aways from him after developing ALS - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. In short, his body slowly began to shut down, to the point where he is completely paralysed, he can only use his eyes. So his dad put this system together, where Jason uses his eyes to to work with a pointers system which places music notation on a modified logic Pro system, to compose the parts for each instrument chosen for that particular composition.
Jason suggests that AI used as complete replacement for human creativity results in crap, lifeless noise. Learn an instrument! It opens the music world up for you.
Because music is not music if it's not played or contains soul, nuance, dynamics and passion.
But, you just think its a good thing, even though they are turning you into talentless lemmings.
Anyways, there's some musical terminology for you in what I Just wrote, should help you tell your computer what to do in your journey to becoming a composer of muzak.
But hey, enough of my yakin!
10:15 the amount the one was better is wild
@InksplodedIts all gibberish to me😅
@Thomsen-Senso helpful and interesting video omg pure sugar thank you...
@Brandon-vk1cmWTF, change your VOICE
@RooftopKoreansMusicvery off topic but what's the piano library here?
@soulscape5083This melody came out nice.
@eyetalicAn issue I have is that I feel so self-conscious composing the treble part that my gut wrenches from how cringe-sounding it comes out and I become ashamed for pirating my DAW and uninstall it until I want to write something again. How do you propose to work around this issue? I am a broke bosnian teenager who wants to write nationalistic turbo folk against Serbian people and cant afford FL studio
@archimes512Yo this is a great video I’m subscribing
@allthingsananiasWow
@allthingsananiasDo you forget when composing a melody? How do you handle them
@akhianlamAwesome technique
@Almightservant11:12 Very useful idea. I'd like to mention that sometimes I try to do the opposite, because I noticed that sometimes the initial melody is better, but later I intuitively move to motifs that are less original, more common or easier for me. If a melody is good, it will become memorable, although it may need repetition to stick.
@fmaylinch1:33 oh, nice analogy between a motif and a cell; that makes me think of comparing a motif with a gene, because a gene can be very important for the DNA (of the song), but at the same time there's no strict definition of where a gene/motif starts and ends
@fmaylinchThank you so much for making this! The length was great and there is so much helpful advice in it.
@MissHorton007Ugh i suck you should just compose for me. 😂 i will figure it out i suppose
@MeesoSarahStart with small motif and expand
Start with shape and embellish
Start withninterval and embellish
Misremember
It would be great to do one of these for up eat pop music. Most the melodies are simple but there's something that makes a good wine catchy
@BryantAvantI'm baffled at how much knowledge all of these guys seem to have each one of them, has knowledge that the prior one doesn't
@RainbowSpartanI forget melodies as soon as I create them. And especially what notes or muscles I used.
@adrianaslund8605This was soooo helpful literally having the biggest musicians block ever and this got me out of it! Thanks bro saving this for later
@amyjustcosThe last tip, about stepping away for 30 minutes and try and recreate the melody from memory, is genius. Will definitely try and implement this one in my work!
@ProgbassdudeSo what if somebody writes a melogy that spans say 3 1/2 octaves. Not everybody could sing this but there are a few. This is how I think. You give me a rule, I can see how it makes sense, but I ask What If.
(a lot of my friends think I'm crazy)
the idea that melody needs to rise is just ridiculous. Plenty of examples of melodies that don't rise, they just happen to not be by John Williams. This is the kind of asymmetry people try to impose on music that makes people turn into werewolves.
@CoreyLClarkHow many are the proud owners of the BD 990 headphones?
@inlovewithhumansCells 👾
@BenificiallMusic@ZachHeyde amazing video and great techniques. I absolutely got what I came for.
Just one note: "motif" is actually pronounced mo-TEEF.
Thanks so much for a fantastic video!
💅 DROP OFF
@EntertainmentForYou_38Lol 4:37 it's the old Nokia rightone, jusy without the last 3 notes. Just exact notes and rythm
@est1988nwyrkWow that last trick is very clever
@stormRedOne thing I do sometimes to spice up the rhythm is to actually notate them on paper and make sure they don’t remain even/flat. I also like to use the 2/3 of the piece completion for the crescendo of the piece.
Here is a great example, far better than I can explain.
Amazing video brother
@christopheraguayomusicGreat stuff! I try to come up with something new every day and don't bother remembering it (although I will record it). The ones that come back into my head are the keepers.
@davidbachy5627Sounds like final fantasy 😂🔥
@9kanimaThis was so useful and enjoyable. I didn't want the video to end. The interval approach is my favorite. Your accompaniment to the interval approach was very beautiful.
@gravicsWhat keyboard do you use?
