How to Discover New Music (Without Algorithms).

Video Overview & Insights

🎧 Are you tired of the same old music recommendations from algorithm-driven playlists? In this video, I’ll show you three fantastic ways to discover fresh, exciting music without relying on algorithms like Spotify, Apple Music or TikTok. Whether you're a music enthusiast, a connoisseur, or just looking to broaden your musical horizons, I’ve got you covered.

Right now, I'm finding new music on all sorts of different platforms, like ROVR, university radio stations and even the CDs section at libraries.

🗒️ 12 Best Internet Radio Stations

Great tips here! Also reading/watching music reviews from Pitchfork, Rolling Stone--a variety of music-focused YouTube channels such as theneedledrop, Deep Cuts, Polyphonic, and dereckvon--can help you find a lot of music you would have never found otherwise. Also, websites and forums dedicated to finding music, like RateYourMusic, AlbumOfTheYear, Steve Hoffman Music Forums, and more are great for finding great albums outside of mainstream attention. There are also some great YouTube channels like Terminal Passage, André Navarro II, foreal, and dismiss yourself that routinely upload music from unpopular artists.

The biggest thing for discovering new music for me is reading the credits of tracks and albums you like!! If you like a track by a rapper, check who produced the track and look for other stuff they produced. If you like a band look up the members and see if they’re in other bands/have solo projects. Found tons of artists I love this way.
