There's an art to fighting games! I get a lot of messages from you guys about how to get better at fighting games and I decided it would be a good time to finally make a video of what I personally think you need to do to level up! Let me know if you guys liked this video and I can make some more.
This guy seems to know a few things, he should try competing on a tournament, he could win a few matches.

first learn the basics before you learn any moves or combos. learn what buttons do what. Learn which attacks counter which. learn safe distancing. learn the defensive and movement mechanics. THEN you can move on to learning command moves and combos.

I have always had the biggest problem with mashing because Iβm afraid that the input wasnβt correct when I did it so I do it like 40 times to make sure it comes out

if y'all keep tilting every single time to play, biggest tip (applies to ALL competitive games): STOP PLAYING. Rage queueing is ragebaiting yourself into a selffulfilling prophecy. My meantal health rn is absolute dumpster tier, so I'll just stop playing FGs in general, otherwise I might genuinely break my controller from a crashout. Get your mind to a healthier state and your body as well and you'll do FAR better.

I feel like this is jumping ahead a bit, instead of starting with combos, i was told to start by learning all the basic systems, if you can do a combo in strive but don't know how to use dust, that will enforce bad habits

I know this one before watching!
1) Quit your job
2) Leave your wife and kids
3) Don't have more kids
4) Do not play other game genres
5) Dedicate at least 8 hours a day to play and train in fighting games
Check out Viewsonic Gaming's 35th Anniversary Sale! They are the premier monitors I am using to make sure I don't drop no combos π

Fighting games are alot like chess if you think about it
@bobbythotimus1184Mvc2 best fighting game ever β€
@spark7134Justin I know this is a older video but this still holds up in 2026! Great tips on how to get better at fighting games. Iβve been learning mostly via instincts myself, playing others irl in the past when I was much younger and watching others play. You covered some things I havenβt really thought about. Anyway great video; you got a thumbs up man. Thanks very much dude!
@willitineIm finna get gud
Thank you bro !
Well done and said Mr. Wong. I play street fighter alpha 3 I know my strengths and weakness. My bad habit is I dont like slow play and I love jump ins. I can slow play but it irritates me. I like how you detail the importance of playing to achieve a goal over playing to win. Most f the time thats how I play if I can land a combo twice win or lose I feel great. I apply pressure, nuetral, mind games. This way to focus on execution of a combo. This video should be included as part of the fighting game bible chapter 1
@LeafyLeaf-jt5wyHere I ma trying to study fighting games just so I can play and enjoy a old fighting game that Konami doesn't even care anymore.
Bloody Roar, my beloved π.
This is an addiction! Video games donβt contribute to your mental health or growth as a person!
@lordronn472Ive started playing fighting games for the first timeat 34. I've been playing every day for 3 weeks now. I have the opposite problem regarding combos. I can do cancels, I can't do links, I never get the timing right, whereas cancels feel much easier, I just have to start doing the next input after the first.
@ditrix13-o9dMy trick was to have my opponents beat me continously, then I have seen their weaknesses π
@macho13uswas gona binge a few videos cause i thought i reached a ceiling, nah this was all i needed fr
@dreadvits4076Biggest takeaway: fundamentals are the basis for you to get good, and stay good against tough opponents.
@chocolatecrossiant77Uff! I really need to learn the terminology and how to execute cancels and all of this stuff π π
@RetroDennyIt would be awesome if knew all the terminology. Iβm trying to get into the fighting games but I cannot find a video hat would explain what is cancel, neutral, c groove, v ism etc. π’
@RetroDennyThe God.....blessing years later
@FgcOglesoneryuThe worst part for me are the bad days. I mean, there's only so many times you can get pummeled my higher ranks than you and not learn anything before you salt.
@ar7hur06Taking advice from a guy who got parried 15 times in a row.
@strozzitWe need a 3 hour one of these videos please Justin
@thedrizzle6GREAT... just what i wanted to know since 1992 π
@larryhaunenespanol6957you just need to pick up a fair and balanced character in order to do so
@LiangHuBBBWhat do you think of ssbm?
@fx3176So many good topics here
@Tassadar4EverJust started the 2xko fighting game, and while i'm still very much not good, there really is no better feeling than getting your buttocks whooped, keep rematching since you're having an issue with stuff they're doing and want to fix it, figure out how to handle it, and then win streaking on them. this shit's crack man
@jayhawker8200Thanks for this Justin ππΏ
@JoeJutsuKaisenthis guy looks like he sucks at street fighter.
@rollwithdynamite'Press the button once and know it will come out; people push the button multiple times to maybe make sure it comes out, or that it's going to come out faster' = people who turn their AC down to 60ΒΊF to cool their house down faster.
@dhess34Focus on the enemy is number 1 we all look at our character.
@santiagopinera9651Thanks!
@DroppedMyControllerI was considering trying fighting games but now I'm sure that such genre isn't for me. Before playing against human you first need 1000 hourps playing against bots, scarecrow, yourself and even game itself. And community is so toxic too. Looks like worst genre ever created by humankind: 1% agency, 99% failing for all kind of different reasons.
@wooodserLove the background music, thanks for the tips dude.
@moisirskiGreat video.
@Anthony2X19Thank you much Justin! Big fan
@DoveadvertismentFor training mode I set my cpu to max level and if I can lab the combo then I will otherwise I just lab defending
@WhitehatchickenThis guy is so smart and seriously gifted at teaching and explaining. If fighting games didn't exist, I think Justin could have been a great college professor.
