How to Hit Forehands & Backhands in Pickleball (like a pro)

Video Overview & Insights

🏆 Master Your Forehands & Backhands in Pickleball! 🏆

I used to be a tennis player so I have the tendency to swing from the back all the way in front. I was told to shorten my swig. This is the first time for me to hear about the c-shape swing. I will try it out but I have not seen other players use that swing even from really good players.

It's impossible to "roll up" on the back of the ball when contact lasts only a fraction of a second. Just the act of putting the paddle slightly lower than the incoming ball and then simply hitting it with legs\torso\arms with a nice follow through is all it takes to put a top spin on the ball. I say this because it took me YEARS to unlearn the myth of "rolling up" on the ball playing tennis. Other than that - great info! Thanks.

#Pickleball #Forehand #Backhand

Not sure if this is an old video, but I came from your other video which recommends eastern grip for drives, both forehand and backhand. Albeit a high eastern for backhand. In this video, you recommended continental for backhand.
I tried the eastern yesterday, I dont find much difference for forehand, but backhands become really hard to hit.
Could you please provide some advise for me in this case?

That is one of the worst technique to teach the foot works on the forehand.

I’m not sure if I’m playing correctly, but I use my backhand for almost every kind of shot unless I’m forced to switch to forehand, but I execute most of my spin shots with my forehand 😂
Even most of my power shots are all backhand lmao

I come from a Tennis background and prefer my two handed backhand. Excellent explanation here!! Love your videos!!

I love your videos. Thank you. I have come to the conclusion after 30 years of tennis and 4 years of pickleball that you really don't need to go to the side to hit an effective forehand. In fact by insisting on doing it there is no time and it messes me up. I think you're almost better and concentrating on planting your feet and planting them where they are. I would go so far as to say even if my right foot is more in front of my left foot and I'm a right-hander it's completely fine. I've tested this theory with a radar gun and it turns out to be pretty much the same no matter what my legs are as long as they are planted. What say you? I think this could revolutionize things. I don't think people need to turn anymore. As a matter of fact physically I think you're paddle has less movement and less chance of error if your right foot is closer to the net.. try it !

How do you transition between eastern and continental grip during a game to stay lined up to the correct form for each shot?

Thanks ❤

I feel like this technique only works if your short. I'm taller and having my paddle that far back causes my balls to hit the net or out. Even with topspin. I would have to get very low to swing that far back and keep a closed stance

Since you asked, I do prefer my backhand, largely because my forehand is deficient and not natural to me. I play left handed and I am mixed ambidextrous. I sometimes describe that as neurologically confused. My mixed ambidextrousness means that I throw, paddle, eat and write left handed but do everything else right handed. Right handed tasks include batting, mousing, golf, archery, long gun and pistol. I can bowl and box either way. On the whole, it’s a curse.

Thanks for the excellent breakdown on forehands and backhands! I use continental grip on all my shots and the insight on grips was great! I’m going to experiment with eastern grip on my forehand drills and see if it makes a difference…thanks!

Great instruction on the footwork! As a newbie, I've struggled with that. Turn your feet first makes it so simple. Thank you!

Excellent video! Love this channel.. the small one thing I would add (especially for beginners) is after footwork, just making sure to bend their knees on ground strokes. I see many make the mistake of "standing to tall" and the brush of top spin doesn't allow them to get under and behind the ball enough and it sails. That slight to moderate knee bend can make a world of difference! 🙂

Thanks for your videos! About the 2-handed BH--I only suggest using this style if the player already has already developed a reliable 2-hander in tennis. IMO, from scratch, a OHBH is always the best option to learn in PB!

why is a forehead or backhand drive explained any different than a return of serve(other than moving right toward the kitchen) which seems you would do in a drive as well??
