Don't understand the terminology? Start here: https://glossary.infil.net/

one thing that made me stop learning fighting games from youtube is that each coaches speak different things, like A said move 1 is good for beginner but B said that move is bad do move 2 instead and C said that move is too hard do 1 then combo instead blablabla, they kept saying the other one is wrong, i am tired. so i stop listening and just try each tips that are doable by me, like for example i can't follow your tips on how to train better, by having friends or partner, because i don't have one lmao, my friends play fps games usually.

One big piece of advice from me is to not just surrender when you find a good player. Abuse them as your training dummy. You may have learned how to win against casuals and bad players who spam like 3 options and don't really know how to counter yours, but you never learned how to play against someone who baits and knows counterplay. That will be what you play against a lot if you want to get good. So what if they beat you for 8 hours straight. So what if it feels like you don't even know what you're doing wrong. You have the replays, you have time. Use both to figure out what they do against your options. It isn't just your options that matter, but handling how your opponent reacts to them and adapting to that. Find somethint a lot of people do against one option and maybe try and bait that reaction. Look at what options they try to predict and what game they want to play with you. Are they patient? Do they panic? What's their favourite option in the situation you created (Knockdown etc.)? That's how you learn how to adapt to your opponents playstyle

For new players I always have them pick the character they think is the coolest because it’ll motivate them to learn. Then I teach them 3 things. 1) What their character typically wants to do in the match like what normals to press and simple blockstrings 2) Anti air options and defensive mechanics, 3) 1 simple punish combo. After that, everything comes with experience and if they need advice they ask. It usually works out from there

Blame yourself for loses and what did you do wrong doesn't work for people suffering from DSP mentality.

It really doesnt matter what game you are playing, this video makes a ton of sense as an oldhead. But the most important part is that you can always improve your game

I think one of the important things and this will be obvious to anyone who is intermediate or advanced. I feel like beginners come in , especially to the first time in fighting games and they think DP is the best thing since sliced bread and they don't try to learn any of the normal moves and then when they get blown up they wonder why isnt this working or what not. Continuing on what Diaphone said you have to understand fightning games as a whole special moves arent what makes you good at fighting games and those who sit there and complain oh modern is so broken 1 button supers 1 button specials. But trust me if those modern players were to only focus on that mechanic youll get blown up real fast

Personally I’m never touching a fighting game again. It’s the only genre where I fight the controller not the opponent. It’s not enjoyable at all when I know what to do but the character won’t do the move I want.

@MadDragonify
@

is this logic of not learn combo and shit is effective in tag team fighter when you can literaly see your lifebar melt away if your opp did the right combo? genuine question should we approch tag fighter differently

@katakurei5347

I think finding a fighting game you enjoy and suits you is important. Some games just don't resonate with me at all with SF6 being one of them. I used to play a ton of Alpha back in the day and MVC but all this drive mechanic stuff and throw loops ain't it. Having much more fun on GBFVSR... I think game mechanics either get on with you or they don't.

I think fighting games are not fun for me

@jheanlopez4438

13:33 That's me... I was soo excited and i kept grinding and getting better even tho i'm a scrub, but then i reached Diamond with Marisa and all i felt is pain... Everything and everyone (Except a few matchups that i was unexpectedly good at) felt miserable... "Why didn't i punish that?", "Why did i fall for THE SAME trick again?", "Why am i so bad at guessing throw loops?" and ended up quiting the game and now i just follow FGC content.

I think imputs are the biggest wall to get into fighting games from scratch. It's like - imagine in an FPS you need to imput back back forward + shoot button to throw a grenade instead of just pressing a grenade button. Imagine you need to press 4 buttons with the correct timing instead of just one in League of Legends/DoTA to use a basic ability of your character. That's how fighting games feel, you feel like you don't control your character, intead of fighting your opponent you fighting the controls. But "modern controls" options also suck because it feels like game is been played for you if your character does different moves by just pressing one button - i'm not even talking about fairness i'm talking about how it feels no matter the skill level.

Good subject, including the balance of solid to risky play for intermediate players. I heard 85% solid once & try for that. 🙂
Interesting to mention those who've been playing a while & have trouble ranking higher.
I've been plat 4/5 in SF6 quite a while, S in Granblue, etc. I watch high-level players w/my mains, do training, watch replays, play casual & vs friends to warm up-
But my opponent may be doing the same, & plays slightly better. So there's losses. Since I can only do weekends (and with 0 distractions), improvement's very slow. Thanks for the vid. 😎

Thanks for this, new to sf6 as a Mai main and having a blast, but the guides are meant for more intermediate players I feel like. Learning basics and learning what ur poke buttons are is super beneficial for me right now. Down the road I learn the other stuff as needed

@OwlCosmo
@

I've found playing a few matches using just my normals helps a lot. I used to spam specials which are flashy but generally unsafe.

"The wrong thing to do so to immediately jump in and start learning combos in a fighting game"

My biggest take away is to learn the basics of a character and their tools. This is pretty helpful for me since I’m getting back into Street Fighter street dealing with a major computer issue and I want to learn Street Fighter 6. Thanks for the video, Diaphone!

Hearing you talk about fighting games makes me wanna play fighting games so bad... Real ambassador

@joshuaa4099

i have like, over 400 hours in total of sf6, id say i suck pretty bad since my main isnt in master yet, but i like to think im practicing the right things. i mainly play the game practicing my punish game and searching for punish counters, and my main problem is that i dont convert any of my hits into anything really good. next up is learning block pressure so i can generate my own offense, but man its such a grind, you have to rewire your entire brain for fighting games it feels.

I completely understand why learning combos first isn’t ideal but I can’t help myself.

There’s something so satisfying about losing neutral to my friends at a 4 to 1 ratio but still winning cause I did the big combo and have the sick labbed out oki.

Some day I’ll be good at neutral.

6:40 I used to be so scared of this move whenever I fought akuma. Until I figured it out how easy it is to counter. Makes it even more frustrating when someone actually catches me with it. 😂

I only got 12 and I really love the game this really helped me thanks

if i'm not good at something immediately that means that i'm worseless human being and i need to drop what i'm doing coz what's the point. there's 2 solutions to that. 1. half ass the play so if i lose i don't blame myself and 2. actually try for once but if i', actually trying and still losing that mean i must low tier god myself NOW.
my most consistent and easiest solution?
stop playing and don't come back.

yet i still buy fighting games only to drop them after a week or a month

Thanks, Diaphone. I'm not sure if I missed it, but how do you figure out what your character's gameplan is?

@jonpaullee108

I have a major issue with sf6 the game mechanics are extremely unfun. I know how to respond to di. I know how to anti air. I know what buttons to press. Then you get shoto players spamming every move they know quadruple jumping, random DI's, random Ex moves. Random throws. And you just cant keep up. These players literally snort crack before getting on and you take massive damage for anything they do. Unless you have very good fundamentals players like me will never get through or enjoy this game. DI spam, throw loops, overscaled damage for things that shouldn't be that strong.

I played for almost 2 years and was stuck in plat. Everyone is telling me "gEttiNg tO mAsTeR iS sO eAsy" and just being very unsupportive in my climb. The community sucks, the game aside from visually looking like the best fg competitively sucks, world tour sucks, the monetization sucks, you have to bay for default pallette swaps, the game gets no content.

I hate this game so fucking much. A part of me whats the come back but god my mental cannot take it. Its insanely unrewarding and unfun I hate it when people try to make SF6 the gold standard of fighting games. Theres NO NEUTRAL in this game everyone neutral skips and gets away with bullshit

@aliko3519

I just want to know why combos are weird. It's difficult for no discernible lesson

@njnjhjh8918

I could see most of these tips applying to myself, but I think my biggest problem is that I have trouble staying consistent with the grind. Do y'all have any advice to get around that?

i think somtimes blaming things that are outside of ur control is correct. like if you get t-boned at an intersection by a drunk driver. but i knoooo i knoooo "not in fighting games" well i still think its possible somtimes. i dont really like diaphones attitude that ""anyone can be good at fighting games and if they arent its 100% their fault"". i personally hav tourettes, autism, ocd & anxiety and ultimately ive come to realize i can only do two or three 2-out-of-5 online sets every few days or i get WAYYYY overstimulated. if i play more than that i risk having pretty bad symptoms. i guess tbh tho its also that i dont reeeeally hav any in-person friends (and playing with friends overstimulates me after about 45 minutes) and i like playing many many fighting games instead of focusin on 2 or 3 anyways. somtimes when new dlc comes out that i really want i play more but i somtimes regret it. and i literally cannot compete in tournaments becuz i hav violent meltdowns when i get overstimulated/overwhelmed & i know that That sort of thing isnt allowed in the fgc (they will clip it and mock u until u commit suicide). dosnt matter that i willingly take antipsychotics & i willingly go to therapy & i willingly isolate myself so i dont hurt ppl.

anyways i dont want to be all doom & gloom. i luv fighting games. i actually really like street fighter V and street fighter 6 is great too (i love the new avatar modes) and i love breakers revenge & i love allen snider & i luv darkstalkers 2 more than darkstalkers 3.... i just think.... we live in a cruel uncaring universe & ignoring that fact & acting like anyone can be tokido or lebron or whoever is not fully honest. but i dunno mayb i just dont care enough about getting gud; i kinda just like singleplayer stuff & customization modes & theoryfighter & stuff like that most of the time. so mayb im not meant to be good.

@AuntBibby
@

what if i started banging my head on hard surfaces like concrete when i was a preteen & im 34yrs old now & i still do it somtimes?

@AuntBibby
@

Beginners actually think combos are the basics of fighting game. The first thing many fighting games present to you are combo trials, which just reinforces that idea. I really think this idea that combos are the basics of fighting games is at the heart of why fighting games are so off putting to new players.
