Astonishing! With Venetians already up in arms, and rightly so, about cruise passengers descending on the city and probably spending very little to benefit the local economy, it seems highly irresponsible to promote a day trip. Three days minimum, staying at a hotel in the city, and spending euros in the city, is the very least any visitor should be aiming for.

Not sure why Caffe Florian was recommended. Service was poor and the food marginal at best and overpriced. I could have prepared the food better myself. Live music was nice though.

@Thomas-fu8vpunless you have specific problems, walking is the absolutely best option for enjoing Venice as tourist. Everything is in the reach by feet, and the experience is unique. This is true, of course, only if you remain on the main island.
