If you spawn in a desert, spruce, or plains roam it! — you may find a Village.
Instead of furnace, you can make a campfire(3 woods, 3 sticks, 1 coal/charcoal) and you'll get infinite cookings without an extra material.

Extra night time tip:
If you don’t have a bed and don’t want to sit in a hole for 10 minutes just waiting you can start digging a staircase down in your shelter to gather extra resources while you wait.
I also use the time to 1) organise my inventory 2) cook any extra raw food I have 3) make better tools if possible or 4) just come up with a plan of where I want to live when morning comes

Thank you!!! :D I just started minecraft, and I was very confused about these things like how much wood was necessary, so I spended a LOT of time getting wood with my hands before crafting and also I usually forgot the fact I had to eat! Maybe I will be able to get those diamonds now >:]

I wanted to sit down and start a proper world as I haven’t for years but I was like all I know is to get wood iron then diamonds I have no clue about all these new updates so this is really useful thanks mate

Dude, that was far more informative then other guides I've seen. Didn't spawn with sheep near by? Reload. Didn't spawn in a good spot? Reload. Didn't get diamond the second night? Reload. The only thing you kind of missed, but didn't, is if you kill spiders, they drop silk. 4 silk makes 1 wool. 12 silk makes 3 wool for a bed. Otherwise, yes, that's the basics of surviving. On times I don't get enough wool, I just dig out more blocks to set up adventuring, or go clean something for the night cycle (its about 7 to 14 min depending on modifiers)

The last time I played was on the aquatic update and the fact that it's almost a decade since that and the gameplay hadn't changed that much is a serenity

I never finished the game, even though it's the game I've played the most, so this is a serious attempt.
