I Tried Every FREE Online DAW I Could Find

Video Overview & Insights

Today I embark on a quest to try as many free, online DAWs as possible before I lose my mind in the process. I hope you all enjoy :)

as a user of audiotool for 10+ years, you should have gone deeper, it is the best daw out of all of these.

The thing about bandlab is the soundlibrary used to be free. Once they realized how huge a collection they had, it got out behind a paywall.

Making an album in bandlab was terrible, but it was good for me to work with the MANY restrictions. The latency was TERRIBLE too. I'm trying reaper and it feels perfect!

I don't know if its illegal lol😅, but i make my MIDI mappings on bandlab and then copy paste onto Soundtrap, and theeeeen, i download the audio from sound trap with the different instrument and chuck it into bandlab again. so basically, i get extra instruments while still using the same DAW. Thanks for the vid btw, i like watching people do these kind of reviews on DAW's.

Audiotool producer here.
1) Birdcore was a joke genre made by the users that the devs decided to make into an actual selectable genre. Mostly for shitposts and such. I would know, I posted a one and it charted.
2) Sometimes joke songs will make it onto the charts because of the community.
3) The first song you played didn't look like it was actually made in the DAW
4) Audiotool has a much steeper learning curve than many other free DAWs like Bandlab or soundtrap, but it is also capable of a lot more. On the site, check out Back to You by Icebox, SIREN, and dcln. It's the biggest project on the site to date, made completely in the DAW.
Happy to see my DAW represented!

I'm ngl going into a free browser based daw without any type of workflow tips, or adjusting for latency makes these "reviews" lost pretty much all credibility. At the very least this doesn't work as a comparison for paid standalone DAWs for a lot of obvious reasons, but it does hurt to see you struggle with latency, not bother to fix it beyond 1 attempt at the latency test and then "try out" the virtual sounds and just do a standard piano bam done lol.

In the format of music you're doing (recorded instruments only) all you're really testing is the workflow and latency - both of which you're going in completely blind lmfao. The real comparison between these DAWs pretty much IS the virtual libraries they offer, and their specific workflows (which involves at least looking at the shortcuts for things like slicing, stretching etc). It's a 13 minute video and the first half of the video is just diving in blind to bandlabs. I don't exactly have high hopes for the rest of these.

EDIT: Ok so soundtrap gets a full 2 minute review. Hits "smart drummer" with absolutely zero input or effort to make anything or pick the sounds - declares the drums bad....I know this isn't supposed to be ragebait, but this is genuinely like a "why even bother" moment.
