Gary probably isn't gay or "non-binary" he just doesn't follow gender norms which makes sense in Japan when a man straight or not doesn't want to be manly. We are seeing it through a Western lens when this game is Japanese. They want to break gender stereotypes unlike the new movements of the West which only make them stronger, for example, "You are feminine so you must be non-binary, trans, etc" instead of just a straight man liking different stuff that has nothing to do with who they find attractive or their sex.
