I get this but what I don't understand is that my parents divorced when I was two. Why is it that up to this point, I have chosen 'men' who abandoned me? As a toddler I was capable of creating that attachment style?

I’m sorry, but the rage-ahololic I’m married to brought that rage (while hidden until AFTER we were married) into this relationship. I have been doing the work for years and his rage only escalates (becoming physically threatening this past weekend). I am good at staying calm in the face of his dysfunction, which makes him even more fearful and more angry. He’s 77, broken in body and spirit, and I know it’s because he never dealt with his childhood pain. So he’s an old man whose life is being run by the coping skills of a 3 year old child. I don’t blame him for developing hyper vigilance or shutting down emotionally of even blaming me for EVERYthing. I have been there!! I just don’t get why he can’t take responsibility for his own words and actions (no one can NOT be hurt by being constantly raged at and blamed!!). It is sadly extremely unlikely at this point, which is unfortunate because I believe it would also release all the chronic physical pain he’s in. He uses being in pain as an excuse for his tantrums, but I know he did the exact same things before the physical pain ever showed up. It is sad to watch someone slowly kill themselves because they can’t be honest with themselves or value themself enough to WANT to change. It saddens me that he will likely die this way. I pray for him while living my life at the level I’m at, away from him. I won’t engage with his blame, fear or anger. They are toxic to me and I detach and keep my own peace. No possible way to build an actual connection from here. But I’m proud of working on myself and the skills I’ve learned have given me greater clarity and better relationships everywhere in my life. I know the time I invest in myself is time well spent, whether he does his own inner work or not. My happiness and my peace do not depend on him, and my life is full and rich in spite of the abuse of his blame and anger. I just can’t buy it any more. And I have inner peace. God bless everyone in this destructive dynamic. May you find solutions together before it’s too late. 🙏❤️

It's easy to say but in real personal problem and fixing is much more scary to you than you ever can emagine I mean after 23+ years it is not easy and change is fucking scary so if you can most to you if not don't have shame I'm still in this position of trying to make the difference and at least do better for my children so they have a fighting chance hope everyone makes a good decision for who they are

I am staying single until I heal from my mother wound because I do stay in the victim consciousness. My longest relationship was with my daughter's father and it probably was because we had a daughter.
