So basically, International Relations is a can of worms that you can dedicate your life to studying to realise you've merely scratched the surface.

5:07 stinks of “end of history” discourse and doctrine of progress. A short-sighted and ideological analysis, to say the least. “They murdered each other for a hundred years” and now it’s “inconceivable” that they ever return to that? Western scholars will do well to acknowledge that Europe spent a few hundred years devoted to violence in its ascendency, and has been patting itself on the back for about 75 years since WW2 for having achieved some alleged utopian and irreversible peace. That’s a relatively short period in human history. We’ve been here for 12,000 years (counting from the agricultural revolution) and Western hegemony has been relatively short compared to other civilisations, and still is in its infancy - assuming it’s survives to become a tween.

Europe utterly depended on Russia during WW2 but couldn’t hold its tongue from denigrating and dehumanising Russians - or at least their governments - and chose to follow a path of constant antagonism until they broke the peace. This was instigated by the West, or at least it takes two to tango (or trepak or schuhplattler - pick your dance).

And while intra-European / intra-western (if we consider Northern America also) violence abated, the gears of a very European brand of imperialism continued to turn, though after rebranding and redeploying on the world after WW2. The colonial subjugation and exploitation continued once Britain completed its handover to the USA. Colonies became vassals, and vassals and their populations were coerced into an order which has no possibility of de jure leadership - given that morality in its own view is entirely subjective and voluntarist. A short-lived global order rooted in de facto “might is right” principles carried the USA from 1945 until 2025 at best.

Pax Americana is over. And Pax Europa was dead under its boot beforehand.

IR and the study of power will exist as long as multiplicity exists. A multidimensional, multitemporal honest de-occulted, exopolitical analysis has great potential. Anything else is a waste of time.
