Introduction to Forensic Science

Video Overview & Insights

Are you obsessed with crime-based entertainment like CSI and Sherlock? How accurately is crime scene investigation depicted on such shows? What exactly is forensic science, and what are the scientific principles it utilizes? If you want to learn all about this fascinating area, from fingerprints to ballistics, this is the place for you!

YES!! As a first year forensics science teacher I have been unable to find many resources for my course. I am by no means an expert in this subject, and I am learning it as I go. THANK YOU for putting this together. As a tenth year chemistry teacher I've loved your channel for clear and quick explanations, I already know you will explain so much to me!

I'm retired law enforcement, with much of that time having been spent as either a criminal investigator or as a supervisor of Investigations. I think this is a great video for many people to watch as these processes have carried over through the rest of my life in trying to sort through information in a logical way. Sadly, this is something people struggle with these days I find and is one of the reasons we see so much in the way of conspiracy theories floating about the internet.

A lot of forensic science is junk science.

I'm writing a historical psychological thriller atm and have a back ground in remedial massage so this is really interesting. I really want to study forensics and pathology, not to work in those areas but to assist with my writing.

I have a representation in a few weeks titled Chemical Forensics and just saw your video related to this subject. I mean.. are you a life saver or what?

@Mahin-nd7fe
@

Are you going to go over how balistic fingerprinting is pseudoscience and getting thrown out of courts more? Its actually a crazy topic because it involves the broader scientific community coming in to this closed circle of quacks and saying "hey your experimental methodology makes zero sense", I can provide some interesting resources if you're curious, because whole formal studies have been involved at this point!

I'm literally so much confused for choosing my majors cuz whatever I choose nobody chooses in my country, result low Salary and low respect by societies.

I really hope you do a deep dive into this subject! My fiancée is planning to go back to school for a biology degree, wanting to focus on forensic science. We both love your channel and were pleasantly surprised seeing this be uploaded.

"Forensic anthropology will involve the estimation of sex . . . " I seem to recall an instance where a forensic anthropologist was reluctant to estimate the sex of a person whose skeletal remains were found because he was afraid he might be misgendering the deceased.

Nice that you have something on Forensic science. I came to know about Sherlock Homes and his ability with crime solving at an early age. He worked closely with Scotland Yard. Forensic science like all other things has become increasingly advanced. At one time detectives would search for fingerprints. Now there is DNA fingerprinting that can be obtained from hair or saliva. Unfortunately, there have been all those wrongfully convicted and sent off to prison for years. Now due to the Innocence Project using DNA technology they have been exonerated and set free.

@NedimTabakovic

I wonder if this subject will get into why some forensic science gets murky. Not because of it's scientific rigor, but more of how the public weights some forensic science as more valuable as evidence than others.
