I'm ignorant of welding, but flex core is good in high winds, right?

— @filoIII

This video reviews the main types of welding used today: "Stick" welding (Shielded metal arc welding), MIG welding (metal inert gas), and TIG welding (Tungsten inert gas). You will also learn about my intro to welding and how it has benefited me throughout my life. These days anyone can learn how to weld. Whether for fun or as a profession, the ability to weld will add dimension to your life and really impress your friends!

If you are interested in learning welding I recommend you continue with these videos:

Not sure if anyone has ever told you this but for some of us who didn't have a "DAD" or even a Father figure, male mentor type of a person....you my friend are a God send! I have learned so much from watching your channel and I have never commented before but just had to say something today. I am a jack of all trades/DIY type guy and am actually getting my "tool chest" pretty well rounded and actually getting quite good in some areas. Without fail, you're channel is always my starting point with most projects. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge, it means more than you know!

I never got good at welding, don't know it always looks bad, bad is actually an understatement and i would never weld anything that need to hold allot. I've tried it allot during the last 10 years, but yeah i don't know, maybe my hands are not steady enough. Sometimes i get a bit that looks good but then it starts looking terrible again. So i stopped trying, sometimes i weld some things that don't need to be really secure and only if you cannot see the welded part, but other then that my collegues can do it, or if i do something at home a friend of mine can help me out ^^

You were right to post the “shouldn’t have said this”. Yes: you can absolutely get hurt. When welding you should expect a few small burns, either from sparks or chipping slag. Be cautious all the same.

This video inspired me to take welding classes 6 years ago. I maybe not a welder, and the electrical apprenticeship got in my way. I have free time now and I'm more dedicated now to get certified in processes. I didnt like much electrical, but man welding is satisfying playing down a good bead.😊

I'm 57 and did my first ever bit of stick welding just recently. It took forever and I made a bunch of rookie errors, but by the end of it I'd fixed the indicator bracket on the back of my wife's ute. Never too late to start, and if you keep safety in mind, it's not too hard. As I say to my kids, you don't need to be afraid of power tools, but you do need to respect their ability to mess you up if you don't respect them.

Thank you, be safe, and be grateful.

pft welding is easy, when i was 16 my brother in law just threw one at me and told me to weld the body of his car back together, had tons of holes in it, I did it with zero experience over a summer, that shit was tedious

It's hard to beat a vintage Lincoln AC225 for a first welder - rock steady, bulletproof and effective for popular common rods like 6011, 6013, 7014 and 7018 (AC version better) plus other cast iron and stainless steel specialty rods. The down side is its weight and you do need a 220V/50A circuit and outlet to make use its full capability.

I agree 100%, however starting with oxyacetylene will give a better understanding of fusion and puddle control, as well as simulated practice with TIG.

@TyroneBrown-mz9qi

Lately, I’ve become super intrigued with welding and metal work in general. I don’t have anything in mind that I’d like to make but it looks like a fun skill to learn.

@darrenstettner5381
@

I strongly disagree with the idea that one must learn Stick first. stick is way too old and dirty and difficult to deal with these days and more often than not the results are no very good at all and will almost always be rejected. MIG is just convenience and speed. TIG on the other hand is the way to go and learn. It will give you (when properly mastered) results that that simply cannot be equaled with any other means of welding. TIG gives you precision, finesse and nice esthetics and obviously the best consistency and weld strength. However the downsides for MIG and TIG is the need to always carry pressurized gas containers and having to refill them and constantly watch and check/verify and the added expense that Stick welding does not have. Which is why a big number of people tent to actually stay well away from MIG or TIG simply because is not convenient ! to have, use and maintain. With Stick, you just buy the electrodes and "Off you Go".

Been an Electrician for 28 years, held a master contractors lic. for about 14 of those. Along the way (whether home owner related or work related) have acquired many other skills to include masonry, drywall, concrete, plumbing, equipment operation, tile, fencing. The one thing I have never done is weld. Looks like I've found the motivation to learn.

Thanks for this great video.

Great Video im gonna be starting to weld but have been Terrified o being shocked. As i was sitting steel one of many time i was shocked by the welder by leaning on a Beam were the welder had his ground attached and i didn't know it and it was wet and i was on the concrete pad and he was several floors up and yes i was rushed to ER they thought it had messed my Heart up but thank God i was ok but it knocked the shit outta me.

We had an old Lincoln 3 phase ac dinosaur , got blown apart by a lightning strike . It was the best thing that ever happened. Modern dc welder is so much better.

I can't imagine welding in a white shirt or jacket! My wife already thinks I'm crazy, but white clothing around all the dust and grime would be the proof of it. I wish I'd had the opportunity to learn welding when I was young, but I'm finding it satisfying to be learning now in my 70's.
