iRacing Gimp Tutorial - Paint Livery Scheme Design 2024 Edition
Video Overview & Insights
In this video, I take you from complete Gimp (free Photoshop) novice to semi-expert at designing cars for use on the iRacing platform.
Great video
Everything from colors, gradients, curves, logo placement, and more. However, I won't touch on the iRacing.com spec maps, instead that will be in a separate video. (https://youtu.be/5GZ-vdpJ9rU)
thank you so much for this video bro, Great job explaining and displaying the different tools this software has to offer. Definitely upgraded my level of car designs with this one. thank you again for the time and effort you put into making this tutorial.
More User Perspectives
I've been using gimp for a while now, but all of a sudden my colors are all coming out wrong. Don't know if it's something new with Photoshop or windows 11
@billvarner6548why is it when I export to iracing everything shows up but I cant get the wireframe to go away even though i have it turned off before exporting
@dakotahuber919Need help in the number part my number from Iracing is in the way of the number i put in gimp
@Beans.023Can anyone help when im adding a sponsor its not adding it over the car its opening it in a new tab
@smithersxo8482Also wanted to comment on 29:17 for new ppl watching this. I don't think you have to worry about multiple adjustments making your logos look blurry anymore. Once you hit scale in 2025 it automatically sharpens the image and makes it look like it originally did. GIMP must have fixed that at some point thankfully!
@theguitargamer33Liam I just had to come back here after my first month of using GIMP and thank you for taking the time to make this guide. I have made some very cool schemes thanks to you and I no longer have to rely on other creators or try to build what I want in Trading Paints. You sir are not only an awesome driver, but one heck of an artist as well!(and yes this is art!!) You made something that is incredibly difficult, possible for everyone to use! Cheers!
@theguitargamer33This is a great tutorial! I now know I won't be making my own paints... 100% skill issue
@AndresdhaI wish I had found this video a year ago.
@ugccrawlThis might be the most help yet most annoying tutorial I have ever seen. It is an hour long(understandably so) but you glaze over so many important details of different things you are doing. I had to spend another 20 minutes watching another video just to see how the line tool works. It isn't your fault, I get it is a lot to cover in a short time. I guess I'm more so complaining about how complicated Gimp is to use for beginners! I've been rewinding parts of this video for 4 hours so far 😭😭😭😭
@theguitargamer33Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo give me way more control over the shapes and lines than Gimp.
I'd recommend both over gimp
Awesome Video. I used to make some cool Marvel Comic liveries on Gran Turismo. I was able to create a couple today and i will be the ONLY one in the sessions with cars like mine. I made the mistake of dropping a couple of my files under the Hide before Export tree.
@Tchalla0912i dont understand why everyone skips the part of doing reverse text on the opposite door.... ive tried rotating, flipping, everything and the text is still mirrored and unreadable.
@JoshuaDay0550Using Leidos is okay because it is not registered trade mark? If it had (R) you wouldn't use it? Thanks im rookie:)
@davezizkaS I can see my design in Traiding Paints and in the Paint studio but it doesnt show in race
@zachhamm3957Slow down.
@PackerSixx7Make sure if you want to use that custom number you made you click the hide car numbers box under graphics. You have to at least be on a test drive. It’s in advanced
@WistfulKnaveomfg thank you thank you thank you. i cant wait to learn this!!!!!!!
@WinterSauce13I dont can scale the Image i only can Chance the Position how i can do it
@floflo7745very very very good video, one of the best i've seen, sometimes very fast explained but still very easy to follow
@jaime_xcrJust starting the video and considering i and new at the advanced techniques but have been using Gimp for a while it would be nice if you could slow down a bit please so i can gather all this awesome work and download into the brain...lol
@PackerSixx7Not sure why but my scheme isn’t exporting to IRacing. It’s worked multiple times before. Am I missing a step?
@DawsonJHoustonExcelente tutorial, muito obrigado!
@Cassio_C_NogueiraThis is beyond frustrating to learn. Cannot get any of this to work. Whenever I do a curved line design. Has a freaking black border and cannot get it to go away.
@RyanmoodyisbootyI have been using GIMP for a couple years to create liveries, I learned so much in this video that would have saved me hours on previous paints!
@ch0psracingDoes someone know how to live view the edits you make in iracing?
@diegoteunissenHey man I need some help.. I made a paint and now it is stuck on my car and even when I upload a paint to the car from trading paints the previous paint is stuck on the car. What do I need to do to fix this
@preciseRIGPay this man.
@ewartbuilt660I want to know how to stick my own images onto a paint scheme available in iracing's paint booth. I know the schemes are available in gimp but I have to go through and fill in around the edges pixel by pixel since I can't figure out how to change the pre-determined colors of the schemes.
@ThatGuyQuintanyone know what I'm doing wrong, I hit export and everything but it doesn't update in the car model screen
@KGABBSSyou need to slow down when you are doing these, I had to rewind each part a million times to see what you were doing.
@Gary-si8lrHello. Love your videos, they are super helpful. I was wondering if you would be willing to make one on how to transfer paint schemes from one car to another. Like how you did with your Aflac schemes on the next gens
@stevenmaggio51The lines part is confusing as hell. I’m working on a Tyler reddick Carolina blue Jordan scheme. Let me tell you it’s a pain in the ass
@DawsonJHoustonThank you for making a video for those that become instantly braindead when attempting to paint. Like me.
@osiris829Why not use the built in symmetry to repeat what you have between the left and right side of the car?
Go to windows > Dockable Dialogs > Symmetry Painting
In the new window (Symmetry Painting top right), select the mirror option in the drop down
Select horizontal symmetry and adjust the Horizontal axis position until the line is smack in the middle of the roof using the wire frame as a reference
Create what you want on either side of the line and have it mirrored perfectly on the other side.
You're welcome.
Wow, what a great tutorial! Thank you so much!
@F3Z_YTLeidos livery hard asf
@yfposeri am unable to export the files in .gta extention...
@steevelaplante9432I've watched a few of these tutorials and this is by far the most simple and in depth one yet
Thanks for this, liked and subbed 👍
best iracing livery tutorial, nice work!
@RicardoBernalout of all the videos i have seen this shows exactly what i am looking for the problem with what i have is i dont know how to do the shading or for example blend the colors
@nascarcollector23Great video tutorial
@down-n-outinNCOut of all the videos I have seen using gimp to design cars on iRacing, this is by far the best I have seen. It may be long but worth it as this has explained so much more compared to every video I have seen. Thank you very much.
@DAVE0DENIS01What can I say but that was so easy to follow, thanks for the video Liam looking forward to the next installment 😀
@SmithersSimRacingGreat video! Clear and well explained and I cant believe this only has 1k veiws. You earned a new sub!
@AvroRacingRookie here, where do you go to change the wheel color in the template?
@cole948Thanks Liam. This is clear, concise and excellently presented!
